Mortal Kombat At It's Best!
Baxter33324 April 2021
Well after the disappoint many people have had with Mortal Kombat 3 that really brought the series down from missing a lot of characters from the previous Mortal Kombat Video Games we now have them all back in Mortal Kombat Trilogy and boy isn't quite a treat that we can even play as the bosses too like Goro, Motaro, Kitaro and Shoa Kahn too!

The levels from previous Mortal Kombat Video Games are there too with there Stage Fatality too (but No Pit Fatality in Pit 2 Level and No Acid Pool Fatality in The Acid Level either due to technical difficulties boo) it definitely feels like a breath of fresh air to relive these levels and characters from previous Mortal Kombat Videos Games all combined into one video game what an absolute treat better yet you can access a cheat code to get a hidden options icon to give you 1 button Fatalities so you don't have to perform Fatalities by pushing buttons in a certain order with this cheat on!

So are there any complaints you might be wondering well sadly yes for a start where is original Sub Zero's Head Rip Off Fatality when I played all He could do was a strong punch that killed his opponent and an uppercut and performing an icicle freeze move to impale his opponent but I was really wanting to see that cool Head Rip off move he could do in Mortal Kombat 1 secondly the video game is ridiculously hard even on easy setting that the AI opponents literary beat you to a pulp giving you very little time to learn your moves let alone perform them on the AI opponents and if you can defeat Shoa Kahn then you pretty much deserve a metal as an official Mortal Kombat Pro cause as if getting pasted all the other AI opponents wasn't challenging enough defeating Shoa Kahn was supremely difficult I gave up regularly even thought I am a true Mortal Kombat Pro myself and thought I had it pretty much learned by heart!

Overall I think this Mortal Kombat is definitely worth buying if you are a Mortal Kombat Fan but you had best be quick as the PlayStation era had pretty much outdated 2D Fighting Video Games and moved onto 3D with Video Games like Tekken and Soul Blade!

A great game, with nostalgic value
action-63 May 2001
"Mortal Kombat Trilogy" is the last great MK-game, before the series became crap. MKT takes all the characters and backgrounds from Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, all in one package which uses the graphical engine of Mortal Kombat 3, to improve the visuals somewhat. Nowadays this game looks quite old-fashioned, but it`s a game with great nostalgic value, and a game for fans who haven`t got the three first games. If you`ve got neither of the MK-games, then MKT is by far the best option.

''You will never win!''
Rabical-918 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
'Mortal Kombat Trilogy' ( which started life on earlier consoles as 'Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3' ) met with mostly hostile reviews when it first appeared in 1996, mostly because as it was basically the first three games all crammed into one, fans felt somehow cheated. It is certainly true that there is many negative points to the game, such as its brutal difficulty, high number of glitches ( notice how either some characters do not have their names announced at the character selection screen ) and also the dumbing down of some of the finishing moves, but all that aside it is still a grand little game, well worth playing over and over again.

I did not get to play 'Mortal Kombat Trilogy' until 1998 ( even though I was well underage ) when my dad rented it from our local video rental store ( oh how I miss them ). When I first played it, it was like all my birthdays had come at once. I was so hooked on it, I even tried staying up past my bedtime to have a sly game with the bedroom light off and the volume down on the television. Of course, I was busted moments later. For weeks on end, this was all I ever talked about.

The plot for 'Trilogy' more or less is the same as its predecessor, 'Mortal Kombat 3'. Conquerour Shao Kahn rises yet again from the loss of his previous battle and attempts yet again to rule outworld. So, not really much to tell.

All of the characters from the first three games appear here, some albeit as remastered sprites ( as some of the actors who portrayed the sprites originally were fired from Midway, the corporation responsible for the game, following royalty issues ). Most of the original fatality moves are also retained ( though Sub Zero's fatality from 'M.K.1' in which he tears his opponent's head and spine from their body appears heavily censored ), though some are omitted completely, such as Jax's arm-rip fatality, Kuno Lao's hat slice fatality and the stage fatality on 'The Pit II' stage in which the opponent is uppercutted from the bridge and thrown onto a bed of rocks, all of which are from 'Mortal Kombat II'. Other finishing moves such as Friendships ( in which the character performs a kindly act towards their opponent. This was intended as the game's comic relief ), animalities ( in which the characters transforms into a dangerous animal to kill their opponent ) and babalities ( in which the opponent is turned into a baby ) are still included. An unlockable character named 'Chameleon' can also be found, if the correct procedures are followed. NOTE: In the N64 version of the game, Chameleon is a female ninja but in the other versions is a male ninja.

Though admittedly disappointed at the game lacking some of the original finishing moves from the previous games ( especially 'The Pit II' stage fatality ), 'Mortal Kombat Trilogy' is my favourite out of all the games in the series. Unlike the 'Resident Evil' games, 'Mortal Kombat' did not dwindle in quality the same way the aforementioned zombie fest games did. In 2009, Midway Games went bankrupt and were taken over by Warner Bros, who developed 'Mortal Kombat 9' in 2011.

To sum up the entire game in general, I'll say it in the words of Shao Kahn: ''Outstanding!''.

Low quality but still a good game
nightbreed_1610 April 2007
I am not happy about the quality of the game but the rest I like basically the fatalities etc, The game itself is good but the quality needed more work. The reason I am voting a ten is because this game is loads of fun. The game has lots of stages including the wastelands, the tower, the lost bridge, the bridge, the pits 1,2,and3, and many more. The stage fatalities in the game isn't the best stage fatalities in the world but it is cool to do them. The tomb has spike from the ceiling, Scorpion's lair has hot lava, the subway has a subway train, the bell tower has spikes on the bottom of some floors, The pit has spikes on the bottom with dead people on them, the pit 3 has some fan like object that can take your opponent into little pieces, and last but definitely not least the dead pool has acid like stuff in it. I have to say this game has been overlooked a lot of times i want to ask why? One reason why I ask this is because i want to know why this good game is not getting great reviews. I give it a 10/10.

Game Play: The game play is very good. The basic movies are easy to perform but the fatalities are very hard to do but with the help of cheats it can be much easier.

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful. Most of the game is digitalized!

Difficulty: The game can be very easy or it can be very hard depending on what you set the difficulty level.

Music: The music is great! Just awesome catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. The real voices sound clear and the punching and kicking does as well.

Overall: I have always loved Mortal Kombat. If you like excellent fighting games then I strongly recommend you play Mortal Kombat Trilogy today!

It finally happened
mdnrules4 August 2000
In 1992, the original Mortal Kombat game exploded in arcades everywhere. It was bloody, violent, fun, had a pointless plot Ed Boon didn't even care about, and by 1992 standards, had very realistic graphics. The much-wanted sequel introduced more characters and a new boss. Mortal Kombat 3 introduced even more characters and the popularity still proved the MK idea fresh.

With the release of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, I think people finally got sick of more of the same. It finally happened. Ed Boon anticipated this, so he made one last attempt at this now-stale crap: MK4. What's different? It's 3-D, but by then the 10-year-old-boy public was moving on to bigger, better, and fresher things like Tekken 3.

Rewind back to THIS game: Mortal Kombat Trilogy. If you don't own a MK game by now, just move on to something else, UNLESS you've been living under a rock for 8 years. Still, this game is the best icon of the MK era, if released a little late.

It's MK1, 2, and 3 all crammed into one CD. The magic and challenge of the MKs have somehow been lost, and it doesn't have anything new in it.

BOTTOM LINE: Four years ago, I would have recommended this game IF you didn't already have a MK game at the time (like me). Now...just forget it. If you haven't heard of Mortal Kombat by now, you will never understand the magic this series of games once had.

Fatality Party!
ilovestarwars1 December 2004
MK Trilogy is the first Mortal Kombat(And also the first fighting game) for N64. The graphics aren't so good.Looks like more Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, launched in the same year(1996). The game has many voices(errr...More shouts and screams) and cool musics. The gameplay is medium. You could choose many controls, such as using or the control stick or the D-Pad.But the response wasn't so good after all. The game had a great Fun Factor. The best part was the high number of characters you could use(More than 23). This game is now rare to find. My scores:

GRAPHICS-6/10 SOUND-8/10 GAMEPLAY-6/10 FUN FACTOR-10/10

My overalls: 7.5/10.

Worst of the 2D Mortal Kombats
Smoke-Tetsu22 October 2004
I like this version of Mortal Kombat the least because they did the minimum amount of work to bring back the old characters\scenes that they put into the game. Instead of creating new graphics they took old graphics and tried to make them fit into the MK3 style which did not work so well also instead of filming new footage so that the characters can do the new combo moves they took the old footage and mixed it up so it seems like they are doing combos. Then a lot of the new characters where left unfinished making this in general feel like an unfinished game.

The series wen't downhill after Mortal Kombat II for the arcade and there had been nil a good home version made, most of the home versions just made the game look bad, especially this one this cheapened it. Mortal Kombat II (ARCADE) will always hold the crown as the best 2D Mortal Kombat. Because instead of improving on the formula they took it (MK3-4) in a direction that was not good for it m aking it progressively more cartoony, cheesy, wwf like, unfinished, not as dark. But they now seem to be fixing that with the newest versions and improve the gameplay to boot. NOW it's going in the right direction (since MKD).

Not very good
Pat-8820 July 1999
Sorry... I don't liked the Mortal Kombat games much. They're not as fun as the Street Fighter games. Its doesn't have the gameplay. The only Mortal Kombat game, I'd liked the most is Mortal Kombat 4. The animation is poor.

Most people liked this game better than the great fighting games like Street Fighter because of the pointless blood. Thats doesn't make an great game. The only good thing about this game is the fatalities. Sometimes they're funny besides that not the best fighter out there.

I gave all Mortal Kombat games except MK4 this rating-- **
