Excellent miniseries
suebee4024 June 2006
I saw this miniseries on my local PBS station back in 1985. I thought it was excellent. To my knowledge, it has never been shown again. I accidentally taped over it, much to my dismay. I have searched and searched for a copy with no luck. After all these years I still have not forgotten it. It was suspenseful, intriguing, and kept me on the edge of my seat from one week to the next throughout the five or six episodes. The acting was great. I think it would still be a miniseries that would be appreciated now, twenty plus years later. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions about obtaining a copy of this series, please post a message. Thanks.

twisty thriller

By chance we saw this on TV in the UK, way back in 1985, but it is still vivid in my husband's and my minds. Who's the real creep. Is it the IRA kidnappers? Is it the clod of a husband, a business magnate, who refuses to pay up? Harriet Walker is delicious as the apparently spoiled dilettante wife caught in between. No wonder she's tempted by the young IRA thug. She is trying to protect her classically hopeless and willful teen daughter as well. The pace is as exciting as any episode of 24. Too bad the series has fallen through the cracks. Why has it not been picked up by PBS? or IFC? The title, while a wry comment on the plot, is not catchy enough perhaps. But don't get me started on TV series which disappeared. E.g. Rising Damp. Pennies from Heaven, w. Bob Hoskins.

This was on PBS.!

This mini series was on PBS channel 13 and what was channel 21, WLIW in the New York Metro area years ago.

I still remember it very well also and was wondering why it was never brought to VHS or DVD.

It was not a program to watch while having a snack.

I expect that copies of it are buried somewhere in the film libraries of those TV stations, unwatched and going to waste.

Unfortunately, that is the fate of many excellent plays and movies that were shown on broadcast TV years ago.

All that is left is the memory.

The Price 1985

This series has always been one of my top ten TV series. Having been born and brought up in Northern Ireland, the terrorist side of this was particularly poignant. Seeing Law & Order UK on ITV starring Harriet Walker made me want to find out if anyone else remembered the programme. It was so complex, surprising and brilliantly cast, we were on the edge of our seats every week.A story which seemed cut and dried at the beginning unfolded into a web of intrigue which could never be predicted. Some of the scenes were truly shocking and hard to watch. The theme music was particularly haunting, and I think this series would be as relevant today as it was over 25 years ago.
