Two and a half hours on the guy who invented the snowmoble
heckles13 September 2002
Canada perplexes. It has a social consciousness that is usually well ahead of that of the U.S. Yet, it seems incapable of producing the larger than life characters - like say, Jefferson, Patton or Tina Turner - that America produces in abundance. Possibly because of that, not even Canadians seem to be very interested in Canadian history. I knew a Canandienne who was infatuated with Bill Clinton but couldn't name the W.W.II Prime Minister.

But the Canadian film industry has to produce a historical movie on someone, so they came up with this, a mini series clocking in at two and a half hours on - the guy who invented the snowmobile and was the first mass producer. No, there is no surprising revelation that would make you glad to know his life story if you didn't want to in the first place. This is a dubbed movie, originally in French, as one can tell by the actor's names and the newspapers flashed to show current events. The Quebec rural scenery is nice.

My question is, by what quirk of the video distribution system did a copy of this movie wind up in a rental shop in southern West Virginia?
