Actor Sir Michael Gambon, known for his portrayal of Dumbledore in the beloved Harry Potter film series, has bequeathed his entire fortune to his wife of 61 years, Anne Gambon.
The 82-year-old stage and screen icon, who died in September last year after a battle with pneumonia, left no inheritance to his long-term girlfriend, Philipa Hart.
Hart, a set designer, first crossed paths with Gambon when he filmed Longitude in 2000. The couple shares two teenage children, Tom, 17, and William, 15. For two decades, Gambon divided his time between his wife and Hart, but his will makes no provision for her.
The three-page document, drafted in 2016, named Gambon’s wife and their 60-year-old son, Fergus, as executors. In the event of his wife’s passing before him, the entirety of his £1,465,882 ($1.7 million) fortune was designated to be inherited by Fergus.
The will stipulated that his children with Hart would each receive £10,000 and a trophy.

Michael Gambon, the Irish-English actor best known for his role as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in six of the “Harry Potter” movies, has died, Variety has confirmed. He was 82.
“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon,” his family said in a statement. “Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia.”
While it is easier for a character actor, often working in supporting roles, to rack up a large number of credits than it is for lead actors, Gambon was enormously prolific, with over 150 TV or film credits in an era when half that number would be impressive and unusual — and this for a man whose body of stage work was also prodigious.
He played two real kings of England: King Edward VII in “The Lost Prince” (2003) and his son, King George V,...

Composer of television and film scores for Brideshead Revisited and Monty Python, as well as many concert and stage works
The composer Geoffrey Burgon, who has died aged 69 after a short illness, wrote some of the most memorable music for television drama of recent decades. He was also versatile and prolific, producing a wealth of refined, compelling music in many other genres.
Though an old friend, Geoff, born in Hampshire, wasn't my friend to begin with. He was my elder brother Nigel's best mate at Pewley school, Guildford, in Surrey. It was there that my brother persuaded Geoff to buy a trumpet so that he could play alongside Nigel's clarinet in the school jazz band. But his ambitions to be a jazz trumpeter were thwarted by his yearning to write music. He taught himself notation while he was still at school, played the trumpet in a local youth orchestra, and...

Irish born acting legend Michael Gambon has just been announced by the BBC as playing a major role in the 2010 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special. Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins will also feature in the episode.
The episode is to be titled 'Father Who?' and is to be a a twist on A Christmas Carol tweeted BBC entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba.
Showrunner Steve Moffat said on the Christmas episode:
"Michael Gambon is as distinguished an actor as I can imagine and the fact that he was Dumbledore means that he is already know to millions of children,"
"Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And The Doctor. And a honeymoon. And... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything.
"I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April.

I had heard that the Horatio Hornblower films and the Shackleton mini-series were great and now I’ll get to check it out for myself. This neatly packaged (it looks like a book) 14 DVD set brings together the entirety of those two programs along with The Lost Battalion, Benedict Arnold A Question of Honor, Napoleon, The Duel, The Fire Ships, Longitude, The Wrong War, The Duchess and The Devil. As historical dramatizations go you don’t do much better than A&E. They tend to avoid sappy presentations in favor of genuine drama and character development and historical accuracy. And the stable of actors they’ve used (John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons, Isabella Rossellini, Gerard Depardieu etc.) are more than up to the task of keeping things from getting too melodramatic. The extras alone here would be worth another whole box set. I won’t list them here because I’m...

LONDON -- Channel 4 is turning its back on big-budget period drama and bleak storytelling to focus instead on more upbeat humorous and contemporary shows, incoming drama head John Yorke said Wednesday. Yorke said at a conference in London that the network is abandoning its emphasis on such critically acclaimed projects as Longitude and the Kenneth Branagh starrer Shackleton and is instead looking to pick up the mood of such shows as Six Feet Under and Sex and the City. "One area I don't really want to look at anymore is period drama," Yorke said. "Things like 'Shackleton' and 'Longitude' were very good, but we need to concentrate on modern, urban and contemporary. There's also a lot of bleak stuff. I've read an above-average number of scripts that end with the central character killing themselves, their children or the rest of the family. I don't really want to sit through drama that's telling me life is terrible."...
