In Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy, Nathan, taking Meredith’s suggestion that he make a “grand gesture” to prove his love to Megan, reunited her with son Farouk; Jackson inherited a quarter of a billion dollars from his grandfather and inched closer to a romance with Maggie — till Catherine referred to her as his sister; Arizona had no sooner gotten finished reassuring April that she’d get used to nights away from Harriet than she got a text saying that Sofia wanted to move back to Seattle; Jo asked that Mer exclude her name from an article on Megan’s operation,...

When the dust settles, the Dishonored games will be remembered as modern classics. On the ground, these elaborate playgrounds are made to last, stuffed with avenues to explore and hidden routes that reward the dedicated traveler. They’re a mathematical marvel. But from afar, the art deco touches and steampunk influences breathe life into the game’s cold, calculating geometry. Dishonored is that rare breed: a meticulous technical masterpiece that is also a work of art.
In five short years, Arkane has spun five games from the Dishonored web, and for a series about assassinating high-profile targets, Death of the Outsider introduces the biggest target of all: the beady black-eyed wonder known as The Outsider; the celestial being who has been there from the start. With the livelihood of the series’ enduring personality up in the air, this might be the end of Dishonored as we know it, but Arkane...

When the dust settles on a Toronto International Film Festival already chock full of politically incorrect films, Louis C.K.'s I Love You, Daddy will likely be the one that generates the most think pieces and, yes, blogger outrage.
After all, the comedy centers on a privileged TV producer (C.K.) grappling with the fact that his 17-year-old daughter (Chloe Grace Moretz) has fallen for a brilliant but lecherous 68-year-old filmmaker (John Malkovich). Throw in a casual drop of the N-word (said by C.K.), ample use of the word "retard" (by actresses Pamela Adlon and Ebonee Noel) and a few...

Malayalam master filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s first film in eight years, Pinneyum (“Once Again”) opens with the discovery of a dead man in a hotel room – and it will take the whole film for us to discover who this man is, and why he died.
Thirty-one year old Purushothaman Nair (Dileep) has been looking for work as an accountant since his graduation eight years earlier. His wife, Devi (Kavya Madhavan) works as a school teacher in order to sustain their extended family (her daughter, father and brother), and their apparently once loving relationship (theirs was a love marriage, approved of by family) shows the strain that Purushothaman’s unemployment creates. Finally, after much failure, Purushothaman obtains a visa and employment in the Gulf, following in the footsteps of so many other Malayalees who looked – and still look–to the Gulf as a way out of chronic unemployment.

Warning: spoilers below! If you've already taken our friendly advice and watched André Øvredal's The Autopsy of Jane Doe, then you know that the supernatural horror film ends on a fairly dismal note. If you haven't taken our advice and watched it, but you want to know what happens anyway, then steel your nerves and proceed with caution while we break down the ending in this simple, deceptively brilliant movie. First Thing's First: What's the Set-Up? An unidentified woman's naked, perfectly preserved corpse is found half-buried in the basement of a home where a brutal, bloody triple-murder occurred, and the body is brought in to the mortuary of father-son coroners Tommy and Austin Tilden (Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch, respectively), who run their business out of the basement of their home. Although Tommy has already wrapped up for the night, the sheriff pleads with him to perform the autopsy...

Ursula K. LeGuin wrote that war is the opposite of civilization — you have one or the other, not both. Clément Cogitore‘s debut feature, Neither Heaven Nor Earth, takes this sentiment to its isolated conclusion through vaguely supernatural means. It is otherworldly in narrative and visual approach: the rocky valleys, the night vision goggles, and uneasy failing of rationality make us realize things operate differently here. If The Hurt Locker takes place on the other side of the world, Neither Heaven Nor Earth is on Mars. A French army section (rather than an American platoon) are stationed in Afghanistan, led by a gruff yet caring captain (Jérémie Renier), to keep the peace and protect a local village from the Taliban.

The time has come once more for the movie world to hold its breath temporarily as a committee of white old men decide to give awards to entirely the wrong movies and ignore what sparse diversity Hollywood allows to flourish. Curiously, though it”s now almost fashionable to rag on the Oscars (or boycott them entirely), they remain the standard for performance and technical quality and millions are invested in “campaigning” for their attention. So of course we all still pay attention.
And to give the Academy their dues, there are almost no decisions they could make that wouldn’t see them torn apart by wolves.

Oh, Avengers: Age of Ultron, how I loved you so! From the moment the pre-movie Ant-Man trailer began to the last second of Whedon-tinted footage befell my eyes, I was a happy camper. Before I roll up my sleeves and dive in to the nitty-gritty details that made the movie for me, I’d be remiss if I didn’t shout from the rafters that this week’s column is chock full of spoilers. So, consider yourself warned. But I digress. Let the love-in begin!
Remembering Where It All Began.
More than once during Age of Ultron, the lingering ideas of Iron Man permeated the plot line. This attention to detail – taking the theme of Tony’s war-mongering past as the driving force for all that has followed – helped create a sequel born of the cinematic McU, rather than being plucked directly from the proverbial pulp.

A new television advertisement for Avengers: Age of Ultron hints at a dangerous battle for the Marvel superhero team.
Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye join together with mystical siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the Marvel sequel to battle a power-mad artificial intelligence known as Ultron.
"When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world will be me," Ultron (James Spader) warns in the new promo.
Marvel's latest television spot also includes footage of ex-shield director Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) coming out of hiding following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The Marvel Studios blockbuster was in the news earlier this week when it was revealed that Linda Cardellini and Julie Delpy have secret roles in the Avengers sequel.

Written by Samuel G. Engel and Winston Miller
USA, 1946
In John Ford’s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), it is remarked that, “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” This seems especially apt when it comes to the treatment of the Arizona city Tombstone and the historic western yarn of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the renowned confrontation between the Clantons on one side and the Earps with John “Doc” Holliday on the other. This famous battle, lasting all of about 30 seconds, took place the afternoon of Oct. 26, 1881, and in recalling this skirmish, multiple variations and interpretations have resulted in a cinematic legend in the making, with repeated appearances of its setting, characters, and actions. When the dust settles, one of the greatest depictions of the event, its decisive individuals, and the surrounding area and occurrences (true or false...

Hopefully you've enjoyed the first couple of days of coverage from Cannes as we have a trio of correspondents on hand. Between Greg, Guy and Drew, few stones are likely to be left unturned. One of the goodies on display will be another look ahead at The Weinstein Company's fall offerings. Harvey Weinstein first gave this a shot two years back with a big event featuring footage from "Django Unchained," "Silver Linings Playbook" and "The Master." It's interesting in hindsight that of the three, it was "Silver Linings Playbook" that drew the more muted response, with many seeing it as simply a broad comedy. I'm not saying it turn out to be just that, but it certainly found its way in the editing over the next couple of months before landing at Toronto as a bonafide Oscar player. Last year the event doubled in size as Harvey showed off...

What will one of the most competitive seasons on record have to show for itself on Sunday night? When the dust settles, we'll certainly have seen one of the more campaign-heavy seasons to date. No one has just rolled over and some have pulled out all the stops. Just look at Paramount's push for "The Wolf of Wall Street," which just went for it with a vibrant "Because It's Awesome" outdoor campaign. Warner Bros. tapped a more emotional vein in TV spots for "Gravity," highlighting it as more than "just" a feat of craftsmanship. And though characteristically reserved on a...

Last night’s episode was operating on so many levels that it’s hard to know where to begin. At the hospital, a civil defense simulation of a nuclear bomb explosion leaves workers huddling under desks during air-raid sirens and moaning in pain as “casualties.” But as Jane points out, a desk is not going to be much help if an H-bomb drops on St. Louis. “They won’t even find our teeth,” she says. How to cope with the possibility of total annihilation? It’s a “test of your resolve,” says the man introducing the drill. The episode certainly offers a few people a test of character. When the dust settles all that is certain is that things will not be the same. Masters, for one, seems nonplussed by the prospect of a nuclear attack. To him, the test is just an irritation impeding his ability to deal with more immediate,...

Say it ain’t so Dario, say it ain’t so. Once upon a time, I thought the worst thing that could happen to vampires was Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight plight, but since seeing Dracula 3D, I know more threats to the vampire genre lurk in the shadows besides Mormon writers. Sadly, Dario Argento’s latest directorial effort shows no signs of the influential director of old, coming off as a campy SyFy type movie with so many downsides that it’s hard deciding where to start. Mr. Argento, I respect your name and legacy, and acknowledge everything you’ve given to the horror genre, but out of respect to you, if you’re reading this, I sincerely suggest you stop reading right now. It only gets worse – oh, so worse.

I had a vague idea that it was about a detective of some sort, and that an actor I like a lot, Timothy Olyphant, was in the lead role, but not much more than that.
Luckily for me, this week sees the release of Justified Season 4 on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as the Season 1-4 box-set, the latter of which I was able to get my hands on to put together this feature. I decided to set myself a viewing challenge and catch up with the entirety of the show so far in just seven days. Four seasons. 52 episodes. Approximately 36 hours of television goodness. An extremely attractive, but also incredibly daunting prospect.

Of all the new horror projects heading to TV in the fall, one we're really looking forward to is "Sleepy Hollow" on Fox, and here are the highlights of what we learned about it during Comic-Con.
In case you're not quite sure what transpires in this modern-day twist on Washington Irving’s classic story, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction and he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a contemporary police officer (Nicole Beharie) to unravel a mystery that dates back to the founding fathers.
First we spoke with executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Bob Orci , Mark Goffman, and Len Wiseman (who also directed the pilot and told us he's definitely returning to direct/co-direct at least one or two more). Right off the bat we...

Ok, honest confession time. The geek blogger extraordinaire for Chicago’s newspaper Red Eye, Elliot Serrano, posted on his Facebook page that there were three things he knew to be facts:
Schroedinger’s cat was dead. There’s no air-holes in the box. Superman never kills. For any reason. The End. Batman would lose in a fight to Captain America.
Now, upon seeing this – perhaps because I was in a crabby mood – I was immediately consumed with anger. I swore vengeance on Elliot. Luckily he’s of the sporting kind, and told me I was allowed to disagree with just one of those aforementioned facts. Well Mr. FancyHam? Let’s tackle this issue of one Mr. Rogers and Mr. Wayne. Submitted here for you, Elliot and my intrepid Fishmongers…. the top five reasons Batman mops the floor with Mickey’s super soldier.

The Walking Dead Episode 310
“Home”
Written By: Nichole Beattie
Directed By: Seith Mann
Original Airdate: 17 February 2013
In This Episode...
Rick is extra crazy tonight. He follows a vision of Lori past the prison gates, but she’s not there (you know, ‘cause she is not real) so he spends most of the episode wandering around looking for her. At one point, Hershel tries to coax him back inside, but Rick is giving crazy his full attention.
Glenn is similarly off his rocker, but in an angry way. He is full of rage at the Governor and Merle for abusing him and Maggie. But really, Glenn is feeling guilty for getting Maggie into a near-rape situation. He wants to go retaliate against Woodbury, but Hershel talks him out of it. Instead, Glenn takes a truck to check the perimeter of the prison to figure out how walkers are getting into the...

In “Made to Suffer,” the midseason finale of The Walking Dead, the Battle of Woodbury leaves one character dead and another dead again, two characters in mortal danger, and oh yeah, Shane returns. Whaaat?! Allow me to explain:

Fresh Meat | We open in the woods, where a small group of survivors — among them Tyrese, who I’m told is a Vbd (Very Big Deal) in the comics — is fighting off walkers. They make their way inside the prison, but not before one of them is bitten.

“Sick”
Written By: Nicholas Beattie
Directed By: Billy Gierhard
Original Airdate: 21 October 2012
In This Episode...
Daryl holds the prisoners at arrow point while Rick and the others prep Hershel for relocation. The prisoners wait a minute, then follow. Back at cellblock C, Hershel is rushed inside and the block is locked down while Daryl keeps watch on the prisoners. He tells them they are free to go, so go, but the prisoners start thinking that if a bunch of free people are breaking in to the prison, maybe it’s not such a good idea to leave. Carol and Lori work to stop Hershel’s bleeding, and Rick leaves Glenn in charge in case Hershel does die.
The prisoners had been locked inside the kitchen of the cafeteria for about 10 months. A kind guard locked them in when trouble started, and they never left. The doors...

Even though Will Smith, Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones and the rest of the Men in Black III crew have serious reason to celebrate this Memorial Day weekend, beyond the fact that living in America grants them the freedom to make cartoonish movies about time traveling space alien bugs and the threats they pose to Earth’s security, they are at the beginning of their moneymaking journey. Joss Whedon and Marvel’s The Avengers, on the other hand, is full-steam ahead and knocking down seemingly every record in its path. When the dust settles, it will be MiB3 standing as the first film to topple The Avengers, bringing in $55 million in its Friday-to-Sunday run, with one more day left in the holiday weekend. Sony Pictures estimates the Will Smith-led family film will have notched in the area of $70 million domestically and $202 million worldwide over the four-day weekend, making it the second film of the summer to...

This past week, I read both Justice League #5 and Justice League Dark #5. To say they are worlds apart is a bit on-the-nose, but suffice to say… it’s the truth. Justice League proper is loud, dumb, and thin. Dark is the polar opposite.
With an issue left to finish its first arc, Justice League needs a near miracle to turn my opinion around. In issue #5, Dark completed its first arc and I’m amazingly sold on it. Funny then that I didn’t bring that book home. My wife, and mother to our newborn son, bought it cause she loves Zatanna. Trust me, I have a millions reasons to thank her everyday. Now? I have a million and one. But I digress. This here column is meant to compare and contrast just why Jl: Prime is poop, and Dark is dynamite. I hope Geoff Johns is taking notes.
Let’s start with the good.

So we’ve all heard the news, right? The next big thing to be constructed by the architects of the House of Ideas is a doozy. “X-Men Vs. Avengers” touts the titular teams of the 616 waging war against one another in hopes of quelling Hope and her potential Phoenix Force powers. Now this may be putting the cart before the horse… so let’s go to the official release:
“The Avengers and X-Men have learned that the all-powerful embodiment of both death and rebirth known as the Phoenix Force is on a crash course for Earth… and it needs a new host to unleash its immeasurable power. But what is the shocking decision tied to the Phoenix’s return that will pit the Avengers against the X-Men? And when good friends become bitter enemies, what does this mean for the future of the Marvel Universe?”
Since I’m a betting fellow,...

This week's mid-season finale of The Walking Dead provided more of the same throughout most of the episode - Shane snarling, baby drama, Dale meddling ... but the final five minutes proved to be a game-changer, and set up February's return nicely.
During breakfast, Glenn tells the group, "There are walkers in the barn," and most of the episode is spent dealing with each group member's reaction.
Rick: Stoic leader that he is, Rick decides to take the diplomatic route, and have a rational conversation with Hershel directly. Unfortunately, it's hard to have a rational conversation with someone who reads the bible while eating cling peaches (spoiler alert for Hershel: He dies at the end). Rick tells him that he knows about the barn, and Hershel says, "I want all of you gone within a week." Rick explains that Lori is preggers,...

All is forgiven between the public and the “Planet Of The Apes” franchise. This relationship seemed on the outs as soon as Tim Burton gave us Apebraham Lincoln a decade ago, but “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” has healed all wounds. While not keeping pace with that last Apeventure, 'Rise' has still taken only two weekends to cross $100 million at a much lower cost, a total no one at Fox was expecting. When the dust settles, this offering, which held well-enough to suggest strong word-of-mouth, will have outdistanced many of its genre companions from this summer, particularly…...

What does it mean to be a successful comedian? How far can the boundaries of taste be pushed to get a laugh? Four top comics, Ricky Gervais, Louis C.K., Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock, discuss and debate their craft on a brand-new HBO special, Talking Funny, which debuts on Friday April 22nd – and the folks at HBO have been good enough to share with us the official poster (above) and three clips from the show:
The quartet reveal the secrets of their success, share hysterical anecdotes and jokes and remind each other of the valuable lessons they’ve learned along the way (including how to shamelessly pilfer each other’s material). Each comic answers questions such as: “Who was the first funny kid you ever met?,”† “When is it time to add new material to your act?” and “How do you know when you’ve hit on the proverbial ‘thing’ that sets you apart?...

The turmoil in Egypt is the inevitable result of a government that placated Washington for years in defiance of the wishes of its own people. Plus, full coverage of the uprising in Egypt
The end of Hosni Mubarak's regime in Egypt portends fundamental change throughout the Middle East and the end of the American era in the region. Mubarak was the archetype authoritarian that Washington has relied upon to help maintain a regional political order that made it relatively easy to exercise American power. The Egyptian strongman kept the peace with Israel, the Suez Canal open, and the Islamists down. If he was often brutal without being repressive in the ways of Iraq's Saddam Hussein or the late Syrian leader, Hafiz al Assad, all the better. Mubarak's disdain for his people, who never much liked the regime's alignment with the United States-and by association, Israel-was hardly troublesome to Washington...
