This ongoing partnership will see a steady slate of some of the weirdest and wildest films ever committed to celluloid released on Blu-ray and across digital platforms for the first time on this side of the Atlantic.
The first releases in the range will be the sleazy and terrifying Effects (1980) and exploitation legend Renee Harmon’s Lady Street Fighter (1981), both releasing on 10th January 2022 on Blu-ray and digital. Each film benefits from a recent 2K or 4K scan from original source materials and extensive extras, while the first run of each title will come with a Limited Edition ‘O-ring’ sleeve.

As Deliver Us From Evil lands on disc in the UK, we look back at key lessons the movies teach us about possession...
The idea of demonic possession goes back thousands of years, to before we had film. Most religions carry their own interpretation of what it means for a person to be 'possessed' by a demon or a spirit and it's a complicated, arcane subject shrouded in mystery and ritual.
The Sumerians, thousands of years before Christ, believed all diseases were caused by 'sickness demons' and had their sorcerers attempt early exorcisms as cures. The Quran talks extensively of Jinn (demons) that can drive people to insanity and may only be expelled via worship. In the Bible, Satan and his demons are very much at large using human beings as vessels for devilish deeds. Jesus casts a whole bunch of them out before he's accused of being demon-possessed himself...

As a composer, I'm quick to acknowledge the role of music in setting the tone for a horror film, and while theme songs with lyrics and vocals can be just as effective as an instrumental score, there are definitely risks involved: along with clothing and hairstyles, songs tend to anchor a film to the year it was made, and as tastes change, a pop tune can be exposed as a quaint and silly relic of its decade. Then again, some of those tracks were pretty goofy to begin with, and nothing could have saved them. With that said, I love every one of these oddball themes to death (even the truly painful ones), so I'd like to share with you the best of the weirdest, straight from one of my more... uh, let's say “eccentric” party playlists. Let's rock! Fat Boys: “Are You Ready for Freddy?” (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master,...

Don't go in the woods. Seriously, it's dangerous. Especially if you're staying in a cabin. With the release of "The Cabin In The Woods," audiences across the country are in for a clever twist on a tried and true staple of the horror genre. Starring Kristen Connolly and Chris Hemsworth, "Cabin In The Woods" follows a group of five friends as they journey to a remote cabin in the woods for a little rest and relaxation. Unfortunately for these rowdy teenagers, the cabin in the woods isn't exactly what it appears to be.
Fans of the horror genre will be quick to realize that the "cabin in the woods" storyline isn't exactly reinventing the wheel. There have been a wide array of "cabin in the woods" storylines over the years, probably because it's just such a creepy concept. The thought of being alone in the middle of...

A young band ventures into the woods to pen some new songs that will turn them into rockstars. Unfortunately, those woods are haunted, and lots of blood curdling screams and killing ensues. "Don't Go in the Woods" is a mashup between a serious "Glee" episode and a bad slasher film -- in other words, it's a lot of fun.
It's also directed by Vincent D’Onofrio who came up with the spooky premise. D'Onfrio is best known as Detective Goren from "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" but he's had a lengthy career with credits in movies like "Full Metal Jacket" and "Men in Black." The 52-year-old actor talked to HuffPost Celebrity about being a director and the Wall Street protests.
Creepy! How did you come up with the idea for "Don't Go In the Woods"?
I was in the car on the way to our house upstate and we have these woods.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel Trailer If there ever was a team-up I know I'll never be able to see it would be...

Here is the official trailer for Vincent D’Onofrio's directorial debut Don't Go In The Woods. The movie stars unknown actors who play "a rock band that goes into the woods (never a good idea in horror movies) to write material for a new record, only to encounter some sort of horror." Here is the synopsis:
Don’t Go in the Woods is sound advice, especially when there’s a killer on the loose. First-time director Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) explores love, greed and ruthlessness in this twisted musical/horror hybrid, telling the story of a young band who heads to the woods to get away from their everyday lives in order to focus on writing new songs. Hoping to walk away from the trip with new tunes that will score them their big break, they instead find themselves in the middle of a nightmare beyond comprehension.

New DVD celebrates the 80s heyday of video nasties - a genre that didn't quite corrupt the nation's youth … or its dogs
Hard to believe now, but back in the early 1980s Britain was under attack. A sustained attack from a foe more insidious and corrupting than anything that had assailed our shores before; a demonic force that destroyed our mental health, that could deprave all who came into contact with it. Highly scientific studies proved beyond all doubt the peril we were all in, especially our children and even our pets. This was the menace that came from something called a "Video Nasty".
There are two things you should know about that opening paragraph: firstly, everything in it was at one time believed by our leaders of the day (yes, even the bit about pets). And second, they were completely wrong on every count. It was a shameful period in our recent history,...

Dave kicks off a new occasional series, looking at the films that have courted controversy over the years. Where better to start than The Exorcist?
There are a fair few movies that have courted controversy over the decades, be it a film about cheese under a microscope or the Asian torture film, Grotesque. Some of these films you will have heard of.: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Evil Dead, Cannibal Holocaust, Clockwork Orange and, the subject of this feature, The Exorcist.
Others, I'll be surprised if anyone but a handful of people will have ever experienced: Don't Go Near The Park, Don't Go In The Woods, Don't Look In The Basement and Don't Tell Mom, The Babysitter's Dead. Okay, that last one isn't a video nasty, but fits in with the motif of things not to do!
In the 1980s, as many of you will probably know, the video nasty boom was at its height.

Madman Marz fans be on the look out because production company Code Red DVD is in the early stages of prepping a new special edition of the early 80's "slasher" cult classic Madman. Anchor Bay Entertainment initially put out the DVD back in 2001 but has been out of print and hard to find, that is about to change...
While the new features for this edition are still being worked out, we do know that the original commentary track with writer/director Joe Giannone, writer/producer Gary Sales and stars Tony Fish and Paul "Madman Marz" Ehlers will be carted over from the Anchor Bay release. (Sadly, Giannone and Fish are no longer with us.)
Early word has it the disc will sport new interviews with some of the cast, as well as a featurette visiting the original shooting locations with Madman Marz himself, Paul Ehlers.
Madman pre-dated the original Friday The 13th...

After a long walk away to clear his mind of the horrors that were Another Night In China, Moronic Mark is back to take on more bad movies. This times he's delight to watch The Executioner Part II, which has to be one of the funniest dubbed movies of all time. The dubbing of this movie is so terrible that at first the viewer may feel forgiving thinking that something was lost in translation, but it was all filmed in the U.S. (with no sound) with actors speaking English (which they half-assedly dubbed in later). So from 1984 by director James Bryan (Don't Go In The Woods). Enjoy The Exterminator ripoff, The Executioner Part 2.
