The Five Locust Sisters (1928)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
The Five Locust Sisters appeared in only two shorts with this one here being the first. When the short opens four of the sisters are looking directly into the camera as they sing "Get Out and Get Under the Moon." After this we get a quick edit to the girls singing "My Pet" while another sister is at the piano playing. At just six-minutes there's certainly nothing ground breaking or even good about this short but as a film buff I found it rather entertaining considering this was done at an early stage in sound pictures. I was really shocked to hear how wonderful the audio was on such an early talkie but it's too bad the performances weren't better. I didn't think either song was overly horrid but at the same time they were annoying at times as were those doing the singing. For some reason, especially during the second song, the sisters appear to be giving weird faces to the camera. I'm going to guess they weren't doing this on purpose but it's strange either way.
