Ryder: 'I Wasn't Jealous Of Jolie's Oscar Win'

25 October 2009 6:26 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Winona Ryder was hurt by reports she was jealous of Angelina Jolie's Girl, Interrupted Oscar win - because she always knew her co-star would win gold at the Academy Awards.

The two actresses played mental patients in the 1999 film, and Ryder, who also produced the film, insists there were no hard feelings when Jolie was nominated and then went on to win gold for Best Supporting Actress.

She tells Black Book magazine, "I was hurt that people thought that. Everyone assumed I was really jealous because I thought this would be my vehicle.

"We said from the very beginning that the actress who played Lisa (Jolie's part) would probably win an Oscar, because it was the big, great, showy part. I fought very hard for her (Jolie) to have that part."

But Ryder admits she never really got to know Jolie during the making of the film and the actress has never thanked her for jumpstarting her career and helping her land an Oscar.

Ryder adds, "It won't read in print very nicely if I say that wasn't really her style. But she seems to be a completely different person now." »

Voight: 'Winslet Deserved To Win'

23 February 2009 4:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Veteran actor Jon Voight was delighted to see Kate Winslet scoop the Best Actress Oscar on Sunday - beating his daughter Angelina Jolie to the podium.

Winslet scooped the honour for her portrayal of a Nazi guard in The Reader at the prestigious prizegiving - sixth time lucky for the star who had been a losing nominee five times before.

And Voight insists her long-awaited win was well-deserved - although it meant Jolie went home empty-handed.

He says, "It's wonderful. I voted for Angie and all the gals deserve to be (winners)... (But Winslet) is a brilliant actress and she was brilliant in her performance.

"Kate's a great person. She's got her feet on the ground... and it must have been very moving for the people of Britain too."

And even Jolie herself, who won the Best Supporting Oscar in 1999 for Girl, Interrupted, had predicted a victory for Winslet.

Voight adds, "It was Kate's night, as Angie had said actually - she said she thought it was gonna be Kate's night and it's wonderful to see.

"Ange is a pro, she knows what's going on, she's been there before, she's gotten the award before. She's an experienced person and she knows that it can go any way. All of them have to be prepared... (even) Winslet said she was practising to look dignified if she lost." »

Jolie Sticks To Her Seat At The Oscars

22 February 2009 5:45 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Angelina Jolie will be making sure she's seated and settled before the Oscars get underway - after almost getting locked out of the ceremony the year she won gold.

The actress found herself outside the prizegiving desperately trying to get in just before her name was called as a winner for Girl, Interrupted.

She explains, "I was locked out of the Oscars when I won and I had to go around the back and they almost didn't let me to my seat, and I remember saying to the guy... 'I'm only gonna have one second, my mom's gonna see me, can I please get to my seat?'

"They had a commercial break, so I managed to run in, get to my seat and literally I had just sat down (when they announced the nominees)." »

Jolie 'Misplaces' Her Oscar

3 February 2009 11:15 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Angelina Jolie needs to be careful if she wins her second Academy Award this year, after misplacing the first statuette she received at the prestigious ceremony. The actress has been nominated for a Best Actress prize for her performance in Changeling and will go up against Anne Hathaway, Kate Winslet, Melissa Leo and Meryl Streep in the category on the 22 February.

But if she walks away victorious, she won't be able to pair the gong with the Best Supporting Actress award she won in 1999 for Girl, Interrupted - because she has no clue where that Oscar is.

Jolie handed it to her mother Marcheline Bertrand, who hid it away, but has since died.

She explains, "I didn't actually lose it. But nobody knows where it is at the moment." »
