Certain home video releases presented the series in double-length episode format. These were formed by combining two episodes from the series, which were often non-sequential in terms of the original broadcast order. Some double-length episodes were given a new on-screen title to better reflect the combined content, while others used the title from just one of the comprising episodes.
Chris Casamassa, who portrays Takeda, the guard who is transformed into Scorpion, is actually the same actor/martial artist who portrays Scorpion in the film, Mortal Kombat (1995). Casamassa, a world class martial artist and 8th degree black belt, portrayed Scorpion once again in Mortal Kombat: Federation of Martial Arts (2000). If you watch closely, the fighting style he uses in the television series is the same as he uses in the feature film.
Guest stars Angelica Bridges, Lee Sung Hi, Dana Hee, Jaime Pressly, Renee Tenison, Kathleen Kinmont, Candace Miller, and Suzanne Stokes all posed nude for Playboy. Other stars, such as Kristanna Loken, Tracy Douglas, Tahitia Hicks, Dara Tomanovich, Audie England, and Megan Brown Martinez, did likewise for other publications.
Cung Le auditioned for the lead role. In an interview for Kung-Fu Kingdom, Le claims he "flubbed" the audition because he didn't know how to interpret the instruction to act as though he'd fallen through a time warp.
