The plot centers on a 30-year-old man named Jérémie who returns to a village in southern France, his prior home, for an old friend’s funeral, only to find himself at the center of a police investigation.Recommended VIEWINGJanus Films have shared a trailer for a new 4K restoration of Glauber Rocha’s Black God, White Devil (1964). A virtuosic, formally experimental work of militant cinema, it tells the story of Manoel, a cowherd who, after murdering a ranch owner, flees to join a religious cult headed by a self-proclaimed saint, only to find himself back among violence. A landmark of Brazil’s Cinema Novo...

Rebecca Hall’s deft directorial debut “Passing,” which competed for Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize and was acquired by Netflix, and Julia Ducournau’s sophomore feature “Titane,” winner of Cannes’ Palme d’Or and France’s entry in the International Feature Film Oscar race, have been selected to compete in a section devoted to up-and-coming directors at the 29th edition of EnergaCamerimage, a film festival that focuses on the art of cinematography.
The films play in the Directors’ Debuts Competition, which is open to the outstanding first or second feature films of rising directors. Ducournau’s first feature was 2016 “Raw,” which played in Cannes’ Critics Week. Also competing is Sebastian Meise’s second feature “Great Freedom,” which won the Jury Prize in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, and is Austria’s candidate in the Oscar race. Meise’s first feature was 2011’s “Still Life.”

“When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit,” directed by Caroline Link, an Oscar-winner with “Nowhere in Africa,” has attracted several presales ahead of its market premiere at Afm. The film’s sales agent, Beta Cinema, has also revealed a host of deals on other titles.
“Pink Rabbit,” an adaptation of the memoir of author and illustrator Judith Kerr — best-known for “The Tiger Who Came to Tea” — about her family’s flight from Germany as the Nazis rose to power, will have a wide release in Germany via Warner Bros. Sales agent Beta Cinema has pre-sold the film to Rai Cinema/01 (Italy), A Contracorriente (Spain), Huanxi Media Group (China), Moviecloud (Taiwan) and Blitz (former Yugoslavia).
Also on Beta’s slate is “Lara,” by Jan-Ole Gerster (“A Coffee in Berlin”), which piqued distributors’ interest following its premiere at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where it won the Special Prize of the Jury and best actress for Corinna Harfouch.

We've already seen one teaser trailer for the creepy indie horror flick Oculus, but now we get a much better idea of the story with the full theatrical trailer. Tim (Brenton Thwaites) and Kaylie (Karen Gillan) had their lives changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents at a young age. Ten year later, Tim is released from protective custody and ready to move on with his life but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents' deaths were caused by a malevolent supernatural force from the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror from their childhood home. And she's unfortunately right. Watch below! Here's the theatrical trailer for Mike Flanagan's Oculus, originally from Apple: Oculus is directed by Mike Flanagan, (Makebelieve, Still Life and Absentia) and written by Mike Flanagan & Jeff Howard, based on the short film of the same name. Years after...

The acting. I’d love to be excited for a horror film that has neither remake, reboot, nor sequel associated with it, unfortunately, despite its promising premise; the teaser itself is less than enticing. Sure the one-sheet boasts great reviews from a few of the more notable horror sites, and writer/director Mike Flanagan (Still Life, Ghosts of Hamilton Street, Chainsaw Sally, Oculus) says “When we had our first cast reading, we agreed that the movie functions as a serious character drama, a murder mystery, and a horror film. It's like The Shining meets You Can Count on Me.”With no definitive release date from FallBack Plan Productions, I won’t be holding my breath and I suggest you don’t either.Synopsis: Absentia tells the story of a woman whose husband has been missing for seven years, and she must now face the grim realities of declaring him "dead in absentia.

My last two columns in this series profiled the environmental docu-drama The Green Chain and Velcrow Ripper's personalised exploration of activism and spirituality, Fierce Light. Both of these films dealt with serious topics so this time around I thought I should lighten up. Don't get the idea that I'm going to be talking about the indie equivalent of Anne of Green Gables or Disney's Fantasia, though. Neither of the films profiled here are family-friendly and one is definitely not for viewers with weak stomachs.
Dead Snow
Getting attacked by regular zombies has got to be bad enough, but getting attacked by evil Nazi zombies when you are in a secluded hut in the Norwegian mountains has really gotta suck! That mountain shack scenario is the premise of Dead Snow (Død Snø), a Norwegian made zombie movie that was an Official Selection at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
