Do business when you do business

Warning: Spoilers
David Felder (Arye Gross) is a would-be crime reporter forced to be a food critic. He eats at the Bella restaurant where Momma makes lousy food, but people eat there out of respect and loyalty. David writes a negative review and becomes kidnapped by the son Tony (Paul Provenza) who threatens to kill him.

After the initial joke, it was impossible to sustain the humor. Bill Dana makes a cameo as his famous José Jiménez character. Other extras include SNL Laraine Newman, Ice Cream man Clint Howard and an oriental midget (John Tamaki).

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity

Genuinely funny, if uneven, comedy.

The intriguing premise pays off with a likable cast and a clever script that provides many inspired comic moments. At times the direction seems a bit uneven and the movie feels somewhat rushed, especially the ending which is satisfying but a bit head-spinning. These characters deserve more than the 85 minutes they are given to develop their inevitable rapport and resolve their conflicts. However, if offbeat, idiosyncratic characters make you laugh, this film should have you rolling.
