A love story with a difference.

Well known for their gritty realisation of events of the current time, A follower for Emily is so different to every other episode I've seen. Pretty unique in story, love and marriage inside a retirement home for the elderly. It is sensitivity performed, and beautifully directed by the legendary Alan Clarke.

If you were to read a synopsis for this episode you could be forgiven for thinking this was a bleak and grim watch, but there is a delicate humour, Betty Woolfe and Herbert Ramskill deliver their lines with a twinkle in the eye. Naturally it is tinged with sadness, the lady waiting for her mum, the death of one of the residents.

A skillful and poignant piece of television, well worth a look, even if it's just to marvel at the cars and fashions, but the quality is deep.

7/10.
