Oh My Grey’s: A Medical Malpractice Whodunit!

23 October 2009 6:02 AM, PDT | People.com - TV Watch | See recent People.com - TV Watch news »

It was a dark and stormy night at Seattle Grace and the ER was slammed with mass casualties from a hotel fire. After a patient with minimal injuries died, the Chief gathered the doctors, heard their sides of the story and fired the person responsible for the fatal error. The multiple-perspective whodunit tale probably gave the continuity person an ulcer, but the storytelling style was a fresh device for the hospital drama, a treat for fans and good material to court an Emmy next fall. If you were watching closely, you probably caught the clue in the beginning. However it didn't take an astute viewing to enjoy this week's Omg moments. --Carrie Bell New Kids on the Block: A few cracks began to show in the armor of the confident Mercy West residents. Reed and April were worried their side wasn't getting good cases and Reed was convinced they were hated by Yang and company. »

"Project Runway" 6.8 Recap: "A Fashionable New Beginning"

9 October 2009 6:01 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Last night's show opens with, "And now the most talked about season of Project Runway continues on Lifetime...."  Yeah right. Actually, I think PR discussion around the nation's watercoolers has been at an all time low this season.

It's not really Lifetime's or the new producers' fault, or moving the show to La. The problem is we're stuck with a rather bland crew of designers. No big talents and no big personalities. Probably the most memorable thing about any of the contestants? Logan Nietzel's absurdly bow legs. You could drive a Vw through them.

Speaking of Logan, I'm hoping maybe we'll get another shot this episode of him padding around the designer apartments shirtless, but instead the show starts in the ladies' suite where Irina is feeling awfully smug about having won her second challenge. As Logan says in a cutaway interview, "Winning two challenges has really boosted her confidence. »

Blue Screen

20 August 2009 9:40 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Miles Davis's landmark album Kind of Blue, the gang at Slate combed through the best and worst uses of the record's smoky, mid-tempo jazz. Among them: Dexter, In the Line of Fire and Pleasantville, the latter of which best adheres to the theory that "the album tends to be used to achieve a particular effect, often showing up when a character is experiencing a transformation." The Runaway Bride, alas, doesn't fare well with "the most obvious, and most obviously wrong, Kind of Blue moment on film." Can't really argue there; don't let Garry Marshall near these songs for Valentine's Day. [Slate] »

Katherine Heigl's 27 Dresses outfit named best movie wedding look

30 June 2009 3:18 AM, PDT | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

Wedding photographs often tell the same story – the glowing, gorgeous bride in a gown to die for surrounded by bridesmaids in lesser dresses gallantly grinning through the pain. And in last year’s rom-com 27 Dresses, poor, obliging Jane Nichols (Katherine Heigl) doesn’t put up with just one nasty outfit, not two, but (there’s a clue in the title, people!) 27 atrocious dresses. There’s a Little Bo Peep one, a Gone with the Wind one and an olive-green one that James Marsden’s cynical journalist Kevin dubs “an instrument of torture”. However thankfully, when Jane finally gets to upgrade from being the perpetual bridesmaid to the blushing bride she gets to wear a stunning sleeveless V-neck dress so dazzling that it’s been voted the best movie wedding look in a new poll by Blockbuster.

Jane’s sunny ensemble worn to her beach wedding narrowly beat that worn by »

Topher Grace, Emma Roberts and Hector Elizondo have joined Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Shirley MacLaine, Bradley Cooper and Ashton Kutcher in "Valentine's Day."

Directed by Gary Marshall ("The Princess Diaries," "Runaway Bride") from a script by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, the film follows 10 Los Angeles people whose lives intersect on Valentine's Day.

The Hollywood Reporter says Grace plays a mailroom worker who dates Hathaway's character. Roberts is on-board as a teenager trying to sleep with her boyfriend. Elizondo plays MacLaine's husband.

Wow, what a cast! Roberts recenty starred in "Hotel for Dogs." As for Grace, the "That '70s Show" alumnus will soon be seen in "Young Americans." Hector Elizondo's credits include "Chicago Hope," "Monk" and "The Princess Diaries" series. »

Who's the Next Big Female Movie Star?

9 March 2009 2:15 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Julia Roberts has yet to be surpassed. Back in September of last year I asked Who's the Next Big Male Movie Star? At the time Robert Pattinson Fever had spread all over the Internet and the conversation resulted in a wasted experiment as commenters weren't able to have a real debate. However, a few people did ask for a similar feature for the females and I have finally gotten around to putting it together. With the males the name I was looking at in comparison was Will "Guaranteed Box-Office Gold" Smith. With the females I was unable to come up with a name that lives up to the career Julia Roberts put together and she remained my muse. When Pretty Woman came out in 1990 Julia was 22-years-old and had just starred in and won a Golden Globe for Steel Magnolias. Over the following nine years she worked her way into »

In Search of a Leading Lady

9 February 2009 4:29 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen in Duplicity

Photo: Universal Back in September of last year I asked "Who's the Next Big Male Movie Star?" and since it was around the time Twilight mania was ruining the online landscape the comments were filled with Robert Pattinson love, but a few people kept level heads and some mentioned I should do one for leading ladies. In that article I was essentially asking "Who would be the next Will Smith?" and I can only assume we are still looking for the next Julia Roberts, perhaps that may be the reason we are getting the lackluster chick flicks we have seen lately such as Bride Wars and He's Just Not That Into You... we don't have a bonafide female lead on the horizon, at least not one like Roberts used to be when she was making films such as Notting Hill, Runaway Bride and Erin Brockovich. »

[DVD Review] Nights in Rodanthe

8 February 2009 9:17 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

North Carolina’s beaches are considered to be some of the most beautiful stretches of land in the world. The cerulean blue water laps at the whitish sand and sprouts of reeds that seem to be sprung up all over the shore. It is beautiful, but unfortunately, it’s not quite enough to make a movie. Maybe a surf video. But not a Hollywood romance story starring two actors who can usually provide one on cue.

Last we saw this pair was in the 2002 thriller Unfaithful, and in Nights in Rodanthe, Richard Gere and Diane Lane reunite to play a less deranged, but in turn, a more boring, duo.

In the classic style of opening sequences of romance films, we meet both characters separately. Adrienne (Lane) is separated from her husband (Christopher Meloni) and is the mother of two, attempting to maintain a relationship with her scornful daughter since the split—while Gere plays Paul, »
