A film of desperation and hypocrisy with stunning acting and absolutely mesmerising cinematography, it should not be missed. What would you do if a warped and vicious village bully threatened to tell the Nazis where you've hidden a gun if you didn't sell him your family farmland? Who would you turn to for help if he had blackmailed almost all the men in your village? How could you rid yourself of him if he was under Nazi protection? The sole and only reason I gave it a nine was that, while they had to dub the two excellent main actors and one fantastic actress because they are Polish, it was fairly jarring to me to hear it. Otherwise, I strongly recommend this film in more words than I am allowed to say here.
