The country is saved from bankruptcy – but Ros seems to be feeling rather murderous

Spoiler alert: This weekly blog is for those who have been watching Spooks series eight. Don't read ahead if you haven't seen episode six yet.

Vicky Frost's episode five blog

Before the titles Sarah is bad. Informant Ryan Baisley has been stealing info on tax evasion from inside DeWits bank for the Government – and also the CIA – but now wants more cash for it. Gunmen break into the MI5 safe house where Baisley's being (not very well) protected, but he escapes. His partner and stepson do not. Pre-titles business as normal

This week's mission: Find Baisley (brilliantly played by Ewen Bremner). And enough money to pay the interest on the UK's national debt – due tomorrow while the country's in the middle of an economic eclipse – so the rest of the world doesn't realise that Britain is temporarily bankrupt. »

A plot too far and too much action at the expense of a better insight into Lucas's past

Vicky Frost's episode three blog

Spoiler alert: This weekly blog is for those who have been watching Spooks series eight. This week it contains a major spoiler – don't read ahead if you haven't seen episode four yet.

17 November 2009 12:12 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Director Joe Wright is switching genres once again. Heat Vision announces that Joe Wright is in talks to direct Focus Features' new action-adventure thriller titled Hanna. Wright last directed The Soloist as well as Atonement and Pride & Prejudice before that. Hanna is described as similar in tone to La Femme Nikita as well as the ever-popular Bourne movies. Newcomer Seth Lochhead wrote the script that was also revised by David Farr (of BBC's "Mi-5" series). This will be Wright's very next project, not the originally slated adaptation of Indian Summer, which was put on hold due to rising budget concerns. Read on for the plot. The story in Hanna centers on a 14-year-old Eastern European girl who has been raised by her father to be a cold-blooded killing machine. She connects with a French family, forms a friendship with their daughter and goes through the pangs of adolescence. When »

Welcome to your Friday morning television briefing. The Wire's Idris Elba (last seen on the small screen in a multiple-episode story arc on NBC's The Office) has landed the lead in new BBC One crime thriller Luther, where he will play John Luther, a "near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can’t always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions." Series, which has been commissioned for six episodes, is written by Neil Cross (Spooks) and each episode will invert the familiar tropes of crime drama on its head: the murderer will be revealed at the beginning of each episode and the focus will be the dynamic between Luther and his perpetrator, who aren't quite so different from one another. "Luther is a challenging and exciting character because he’s so complex," said Elba. "While he’s capable of great kindness and loyalty, sometimes he steps over the »

‘Robin Hood’ Returns for Third Season on BBC America

Just in case you’re not aware, BBC America has other shows besides Doctor Who and Torchwood. Although those two are great, another drama is making some waves across the pond as well and that drama is Robin Hood. Its a fun program with lots of action, solid performances, interesting characters and humor which make it a great way to spend your time — especially if you’re looking for a break from a contemporary setting, sci-fi, time travel or monsters.

Apparently, I’m not the only Robin Hood fan out there because its been given a third season on the network. Here’s all the info from the official press release.

BBC Amerca’s hit revival of Robin Hood returns for a bigger, bolder third season of action-adventure. Toby Stephens (Die Another Day, Jane Eyre) and David Harewood (The Vice, The Palace) join the cast of Jonas Armstrong (Teachers, The Ghost Squad), Richard Armitage (Mi-5, »

DVD Review: ‘Mi-5: Volume 1′

7 July 2009 8:30 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

I thought this week we could scoot across the pond and visit one of my favorite television series discoveries.  A few years back, I was watching BBC America, and I stumbled on a show called Mi-5.  If you’re in the UK or are a hard-core Anglophile, you probably know the show as Spooks.
