The Potato Hunter is an imaginary use of clay and potato
tavm25 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Jay Clay is a clay figure character who is in the desert (not a real one, however, since the setting is on a wood paneled floor). He sits on a big rock with his dog feeling hungry. He sees some potatoes running around. He tries to fight one but the potato manages to punch back, form a hole in the wood floor where Jay comes after it, and throw Jay out of said hole. Jay feels defeated and dreams. As he does so he's imagining himself surrounded by potatoes. They all manage to kill him as we see blood spreading the screen! Dream over. Jay then starts putting Indian paint on him, gets a rope and knife, and disguises himself as a potato as he goes back to where the potatoes are hanging around. He ropes one up and, as he cuts it, takes its "heart" (we hear the heart sound and see it throbbing red) which he throws to the other potatoes as it opens itself up out of its foil cover and reveals itself as a new young potato! Jay Clay and dog are now eating the potato they roped. The End. Good creative use of clay and potato as characters. The dream sequence is especially imaginary. Worthy entry of the Volume 5 International Tournee of Animation videocassette.
