Was that Count Screwloose I saw getting off the train at Slaphappy Valley? This Walter Lantz cartoon, directed by Alec Lovey, certainly has a Milt Gross feel to it. He was a successful cartoonist, writer and a bunch of other things and had been doing the occasional movie cartoon since the beginning of the 1920s. He even directed a few cartoons for MGM in the late 1930s, when they were trying to have Fred Quimby set up an in-house operation that wasn't dependent on Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising.
It takes the form of a travelogue aboard a train that hits some California spots, including Death Valley and Pike's Peak. Fairly amusing, and there are some celebrity characters in the final sequence.
