Paul whiteman. Al jolson. Mae west. Bing Crosby. None sound like them but look a lot like them or use some of their shtick by Cubby Bear. THen, songs around the world but not on radio.
In this Van Buren cartoon, Cubby Bear is on the radio performing various songs by singers and big band leaders of the time, such as Paul Whiteman, Mae West and Bing Crosby. Now he sometimes adopts some of the catch phrases of these singers and musicians but for the most part he sounds nothing like the people. But to improve the effect, he wears masks and props....which makes no sense as he's supposed to be on a radio show. Then, you see various tunes being played around the world....and once again, the songs are okay but there are lots of visuals. It's odd...but I've seen live action films supposedly set on radio shows that feature tap dancing and the like...all stuff the folks at home could never enjoy on the radio!
So is it any good? Well, for Van Buren, yes. But Van Buren was far from the best studio producing cartoons at the time! Watchable...but mostly if you can understand WHO Cubby is imitating.
