• Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes directed the original London stage version of the play, entitled "The Rise and Fall of Little Voice" which was written especially for Jane Horrocks.

• The male strippers in the film perform to the song Tubthumping by Chumbawamba. The full version of this song opens with some sampled dialogue "Truth is, I thought it mattered. I thought that music mattered. But does it bollocks! Not compared to how people matter..." which comes from the closing scene of director 'Mark Herman' 's earlier hit Brassed Off (1996)
  
  
• The building that was used for the exterior shots of Hoff's Record Shop was on Barwick Terrace in Scarborough. It had been derelict for many years, and was restored specifically for filming of this movie. It was demolished shortly after the film was shot. The 'Night Club' scenes were filmed at Wallis's Cayton Bay Holiday Centre, about three miles south of Scarborough, sadly like the record shop, it too has been demolished.
