Sterling Coup: A terrific ending to 'Mad Men's' season

9 November 2009 1:08 AM, PST | The Watcher | See recent The Watcher news »

Below is a discussion of the Season 3 finale of "Mad Men," "Shut the Door. Have a Seat." "It's a heist movie." I often start off my "Mad Men" posts with great (and telling) quotes from the show, but not this time. The quote above came from my husband Dave when we were discussing the Season 3 finale of the AMC show. When he said that, I thought, he's exactly right. Much of "Shut the Door. Have a Seat" could have been called "Draper's Eleven." The wardrobe and period details were of course perfect. The Rat Pack was nowhere in... »

Michael Jackson's Funeral and After-Party to Be Televised

5 September 2009 12:26 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Michael Jackson may have been laid to rest on Thursday, September 3 but his story is still an interest to networks. After the funeral, the Jacksons held a 'celebration of life' party at Pasadena's Villa Sorriso Ristorante. Rumor has it, there was a camera capturing the event as well as the funeral itself.

Both the footage may go to the A&E TV special that has been talked about earlier as well as to a DVD which will be released later. The cable network has not determined when to air the special in order to pay respect to the family who is still grieving Michael's death. Dan Silberman, spokesman for the network said that the one-hour pilot will focus on the five brothers sans Michael who did not agree to participate in the first place.

The Pasadena party itself was attended by around 150 guests including the Jackson siblings. Randy Jackson allegedly »

Sinatra 'Could Have Saved Monroe'

31 August 2009 5:16 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Frank Sinatra could have saved Marilyn Monroe's life - but he threw her out of his home less than two weeks before she died amid fears she'd pass away in his company, according to a new biography.

The Rat Pack star enjoyed an on/off romance with the Some Like It Hot actress until she died from an overdose of barbiturates in 1962.

Leading up to the tragedy, Monroe suffered a number of personal problems and illness - but her passing could have been prevented if Sinatra had intervened after she collapsed at his Cal-Neva Lodge resort in Nevada days before her death.

The Hollywood icon invited Monroe to stay with him at the venue, along with actor Peter Lawford and his wife Pat.

But the holiday turned sour when the fragile-looking actress started taking vitamin shots in front of the other guests, only to later breakdown in her room.

Instead of helping out, Sinatra ordered Monroe to be removed from his estate, according to new book, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe.

A security guard for Sinatra's Cal-Neva Lodge tells author J. Randy Taraborrelli, "She opened her purse and pulled out those syringes. I was standing right there with Mr Sinatra and Pat Lawford. Marilyn was very casual about it. She was looking for something else and just pulled them out and put them on the table... Then - and I had never seen anything like this before - she put a small hole at the end of the capsule, and swallowed it. 'Gets into your bloodstream faster that way,' she said."

Valet George Jacobs adds, "Frank Sinatra didn't know what to think about any of it. He was upset, though. He loved Marilyn, yes. But for her to maybe die at Cal-Neva while he was there? That would have been terrible. So he said: 'Get her out of here and get her out of here now.' And that was it. We had to do what he said. I mean, the woman was sick. But as compassionate as Sinatra was, he had a line and she crossed it." »

The fellas know we're repping for them, and the ladies love us like a Tory Burch sample sale — Mixtape Daily is still here, still strong. Today is bugged out, because the focus is on a few people who aren't exactly synonymous with the mixtape game. First, R. Kelly's been adding his legendary vocal ability to unofficial remixes of records such as Drake's "Best I Ever Had" and Jeremih's "Birthday Sex." Well, he has a whole tape of those kinds of records and some original joints as well.

Then, the homie Jd obviously has been putting out his own mixtapes for years, but he's coming at a new angle this time. Jermaine Dupri wrangled his guys Tyrone Davis (Jd's personal assistant), Usher, »

Scorsese does Sinatra

13 May 2009 4:42 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Everyone knows the face and music of Frank Sinatra, but (aside from The Rat Pack) he's never had a proper biopic. Who better to bring the Chairman of the Board to the big screen than Martin Scorsese? After much wrangling with the Ol' Blue Eyes estate, Ol' Eyebrows and Universal will make Sinatra. Scorsese's film will take a different narrative approach and use "collective scenes and moments that form the overall story as opposed to a conventional timeline" of the actor/crooner's... »

The Rat Pack was the pre-women's lib era celebrity fraternity that dominated the clubs, casinos, films and musical stages of 1950's to mid 1960's. Life for these rich male stars was one big groovy party, baby. The group included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and even Shirley MacLaine, the sole female honorary member. Last night, American Idol channeled their spirits for the five remaining contestants to perform their standards. Jamie Foxx did very well as mentor - offering good advice tailored to each talent left. His exchange with Allison was especially sweet. The finale is now only three weeks away and the remaining talent all have their strengths. But someone »
