After this scene, the character appears to be high for multiple scenes, seeing blurred images and not being able to think or react clearly. Many characters in the film steal, deal or use narcotics; many drug references (The main character of the film is a narcotics officer) to cocaine, marijuana, PCP etc. Characters smoke in multiple scenes of the film (Including the somewhat disturbing, forced inhaling of marijuana, mentioned above); characters drink and offer one another liquor and beer.
Many of the sequences in the film are extremely tense and violent; one example is a scene where a trio of gang members threaten and then beat a central character brutally, before throwing him into a bathtub and threatening to shoot him in the face with a shotgun. Many scenes feature violence or the threat of violence, and is a theme intregal to the film. Extremely intense and realistic in many respects.
