Parents Guide for
Scream 3 (2000) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Note: The number at the beginning of each section refers to how much explicit content of that kind there is in the film on a scale of 1-10. The fraction at the end of the last section is the total sum of the sections over the highest sum possible (50) and is therefore an approximation of about how explicit the film is a whole.

Sex & Nudity: 3

While a woman is showering, we see her butt through the shower doors.

Violence & Gore

Violence & Gore: 10

A woman is stabbed in the back after being chased all over an apartment. The wound is shown, but no blood.

A man is hit with a golf club, has his arm slashed (blood is shown), and is stabbed in the chest. Blood pours from his chest wound. He is stabbed in the head then in that instant the opening credits start.

A woman hits the killer with a fake machete, then swings an ax at them, but misses.

A woman is punched and falls through a window in a door. She is stabbed in the back. The wound is not shown.

A man is stabbed in the back and is hit with a frying pan repeatedly.

A man is immolated in an explosion.

A young man is stabbed in the stomach, and pushed into a shelf with glass doors. He tries to run away but the killer throws him off of a balcony.

A young woman is stabbed in the chest and dragged across the floor.

A woman is stabbed offscreen. Her body falls through a mirror when the mirror is shot.

A man is found with his throat slashed, but it turns out to be fake.

A man's throat is slashed.

A woman is attacked by the killer but she fights back and they fall down a flight of stairs.

A man is hit with a chair, then stabbed.

The killer is stabbed repeatedly with an ice pick, then shot in the head.

Profanity

Profanity: 7

The words "f-ck" (sometimes used in a sexual manner) and "sh-t" appear frequently in scenes throughout the movie, as well as some uses of various other strong profanities such as "a--hole," "g-dd-mn," "sl-t," and "b-tch." Mild profanities also appear in large amounts. Several sexual references/innuendo are present in the film and a profane hand gesture is used.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: 2

Several characters drink alcoholic beverages and/or smoke cigarettes in various scenes throughout the film.

Frightening/Intense Scenes: 5

Several of the murder scenes as well as many unexpected "jump" scenes are frightening. Also, when characters are searching for one another in dark, silent places are terrifying/intense, especially a scene that takes place in a basement.

An idea of how accurate the TECE (below) is: 5-10 is a little-kid suitable, G-Rated type of film (i.e. Care Bears, Sleeping Beauty); 10-15 is going to be a little harsher, but not by much (i.e. The Incredibles); 15-20 could be pretty high up there (i.e. Indiana Jones), 20-25 is going to pretty darn adult (i.e. The Dark Knight); 25-30 is going to be a film most likely not suitable for anyone under 17 (i.e. THIS); 30-40 is going to be an absolutely, positively adults-only film (i.e. Saving Private Ryan) and if a movie has ever gone past 40, then I haven't heard of it.

Total Explicit Content Estimation: 27/50.
