There are a total of nine actors from the first two Scream movies that reprised their characters for this film. They are:

1) Dewey Riley (David Arquette), survived Scream (1996) and Scream 2 (1997).

2) Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), survived Scream (1996) and Scream 2 (1997).

3) Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), survived Scream (1996) and Scream 2 (1997).

4) Neil Prescott (Lawrence Hecht), survived Scream (1996).

5) Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy), survived Scream (1996) and died in Scream 2 (1997).

6) Maureen Prescott (Lynn McRee), photograph appearance in Scream (1996), same photo appears uncredited in Scream 2 (1997).

7) Hank Loomis (C.W. Morgan), brief appearance in Scream (1996).

8) Reporter (Nancy O'Dell), appeared in Scream 2 (1997) as the same reporter, giving Tori Spelling the "Stab" interview.

9) Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber), brief appearance in Scream (1996) and survived Scream 2 (1997).

Like Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) in Scream 2 (1997), only one survivor from the prelude dies. Of the nine returning characters, Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber) is the only survivor to die. He is one of the victims in the opening sequence.

Billy Loomis and Stuart Macher killed Maureen Prescott. Many people misinterperate Roman Bridger being the third killer because he writes, "I killed her" on the back of her photographs. Roman Bridger is actually taking credit for being the cause of her murder and masterminding the events in her death.

Roman followed Maureen around Woodsboro, filming her with other men. He tracked down and filmed one of Maureen's boyfriends named Hank Loomis, Billy Loomis's (Sidney Prescott's boyfriend) father. After finding Billy, Roman showed him the tape of Hank and Maureen together. The video outraged Billy so much that he got a partner, Stuart Macher, and the two killed Maureen together.

Roman didn't mind Billy and Stu killing Maureen. As long as she was dead, Roman was satisfied. So Roman left Woodsboro. It wasn't until Sidney Prescott (Roman's long lost sister) became famous from the events in "Scream (1996)" and "Scream 2 (1997)," that Roman became jealous and went on his own killing spree.

Presumably the year that it was released which was 2000.
