  • Continuity: When Mary and Pat are at the carnival, her cotton candy shrinks faster than she is eating it.

  • Continuity: During the infamous bathroom scene, when Mary knocks on the door and Ted looks around to find "it" he turns twice toward the camera revealing a spotlessly clean left ear each turn.

  • Revealing mistakes: While sitting on the car with Ted, Mary looks at her watch to see what the time is but the watch face is facing us, not her.

  • Continuity: When Mary and Pat are talking outside the golf club, the sun is shining on Mary, while whenever it cuts back to Pat, it is cloudy.

  • Continuity: When Ted is caught is his zipper, his jacket appears and disappears between shots.

  • Continuity: When Ted greets Mary in Miami for the first time Mary and Warren are standing on some steps. A man in a suit behind them goes down the steps twice.

  • Continuity: When Woogie clutches Mary's shoes and is shoved onto the sofa, the shoes are arranged differently in his arms in every shot.

  • Continuity: When Ted and Mary take Warren fishing, Ted gets a fishing lure accidentally hooked through his mouth, with hooks piercing his lip and cheek. However, in the very next scene (and for the rest of the film) he has no bandage, no wounds and no scars.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Jonathan in the two-man band is playing electric guitar, you can hear the guitar all the time, even when he lifts his hands from it. The drummer isn't hitting the drums, either.

  • Anachronisms: The Chevy Caprice station wagon Ted was driving in 1985 had "European Style" headlamps. Chevy Caprices did not have "European Style" headlamps until 1987.

  • Continuity: When Ted has "it" caught in his zipper, the police officer is rolling back his unbuttoned, left sleeve. In the next shot the police officer unbuttons and rolls back his left sleeve again.

  • Continuity: When Ted goes into Pat's apartment, there are several piles of dog poop on the landing by the door. When he leaves, we can only see one pile.

  • Miscellaneous: At the end of the movie, Magda's boyfriend shoots Jonathan, the singer. When Jonathan falls backward into the water behind him, we can hear a splash. However, we do not see the water rise from where he falls in. Also, there are no ripples in the water.

  • Continuity: When Ted is helping the old man in the wheelchair carry furniture into his house, the old man drives away in the wheelchair. While driving away, he gets caught on a little tricycle and pulls it along with him. When it shows Ted from the front view going up the steps, the tricycle is sitting where it started.

  • Miscellaneous: On Prom Night, Ted gets caught staring out the bathroom window into another window of Mary's home as she gets undressed. However, they are in the same house and the outside shot of the home that we see does not indicate that the house would wrap around in such a way for this scene to be possible.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Ted is at the chiropractor after helping the older man move, the doctor says tenderness left of "L-7". There is no L-7. Parts of the vertebrae are labeled: C-1 to C-7, T-1 to T-12, and L-1 to L-5. However, the term L7 is slang a “square”, and this is most likely a subtle joke at the expense of Ted.

  • Continuity: When Ted first arrives at Mary's house for prom, Warren is seen in the background with the Rubik's cube. He has just finished solving it, and holds it up slightly. In the next shot of Warren, he is again finishing solving the Cube and again holds it up.

  • Continuity: In the scene where Ted and Pat meet up for the "lowdown" on Mary, the brown beer bottles change orientation several times between shots.

  • Crew or equipment visible: In the scene immediately following Ted's "interview' with the detectives, we see Pat spying on Mary as she returns to her office. In two back-to-back shots the shadow of the camera operator is cast (and moving) over the black convertible - lower right corner of the shot.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Tucker asks Pat if he designed the Estadio Olimpico in Santiago de Chile. Although there are six different soccer stadiums in Santiago, not a single one is called "Estadio Olimpico". Since Tucker was a fake, hadn't actually been to Chile, and sensed that Pat was a fake, he probably made it up to see what Pat's reaction would be.

  • Continuity: After Norm gets out of his car to deliver his pizza you see Pat drive from behind the house. Why would Pat be in his car behind the house before Norm even gets there?

  • Continuity: When Norm and Healy are talking at the bar in the strip club you see a stripper place an ashtray between Norm and Healy. The camera turns toward the bartender than when the camera is back on Norm and Healy now a Tabasco sauce bottle in right in front of the ashtray (previously not there).

  • Continuity: After Ted has been 'choking his chicken' and he is looking quickly around the room his left ear can be seen briefly with no 'hair gel' on it which is there when he speaks to Mary at the door.

  • Plot holes: Ted is a senior in high school, yet he is 16 years old.
