Richard Armitage chats to us about his new audio production, Dracula, The Hobbit, his upcoming projects and more...
Just the other month we had the pleasure of chatting to Richard Armitage when he was promoting Pilgrimage, but as luck (and his productivity) would have it, we were given the opportunity for a catch up about his latest voice performance, with the Audible release of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde.
Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story comes as part of The Monster Collection, a Gothic trilogy which also includes a reading of Frankenstein by Dan Stevens and Dracula by Greg Wise. There’s also ‘an exclusive introduction by Dr. Maria Mellins and Dr. Peter Howell, Senior Lecturers in Gothic literature at St Mary's University, London’ who, strangely enough, are both people I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years – it’s a small world indeed.

Steven Moffat's Jekyll TV show is being turned into a feature film starring Chris Evans...
“He was wild when he was young; a long while ago to be sure; but in the law of God, there is no statute of limitations,” Robert Louis Stevenson wrote in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and 130 years later the tale is still being reimagined. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is now set to direct a feature film remake of Steven Moffat’s 2007 BBC One mini-series Jekyll.
The contemporary sequel adaption of the Jekyll And Hyde story will star Chris Evans (Captain America himself, of course) as Tom Jackman, a descendant of the infamous Jekyll who is starting to conform to the family tradition, developing a split personality. The BBC One miniseries starred James Nesbitt (The Hobbit). Jackman turned his basement into a safe room where he lives with...

Should any film ever be remade? Well, Hollywood certainly thinks so, and there seems to be an unending supply of directors who think they can improve on what’s gone before. Whatever the final result, and of course every filmmaker sets out to make the best film they can, the new production will always be subjected to the harshest scrutiny when compared with an often loved original. Clearly unfazed by any potential negativity, studio execs seem convinced that the most suitable target for remakes is the good old horror flick.
Recently, we’ve had updated versions of well-known films that have lacked any real quality, from the disappointing (Carrie) to the downright awful (Halloween), but nevertheless this trend shows few signs of letting up.

As Jekyll & Hyde arrives on ITV, we chatted to creator and novelist Charlie Higson about kids’ horror, VFX budgets and more…
Charlie Higson is currently a very busy man. After the press launch of ITV’s Jekyll & Hyde, he has to rush off to a VFX meeting (“If an episode’s got shit special effects in it,” he jokes, “it’ll be your fault because you kept me too long!”). Then he’s straight on to filming his second Professor Branestawm adaptation for the BBC, appearing at live events to mark The Fast Show’s twenty-first birthday, and, at the end of this month, bringing out the final instalment in his Ya horror series, The Enemy. That’s a full plate by anyone’s standards.
Incidentally, Higson is eating from a full plate as we chat, multi-tasking interviews with the consumption of a modest Jenga tower of posh chips and bijou burgers.

Coming to ITV this Sunday is Charlie Higson's new superhero take on Jekyll & Hyde. Here's what we learned on set this summer...
It's not every day you see Richard E. Grant and Tom Bateman tussling in an underground bunker. Visiting the set of ITV’s superhero-retelling of Jekyll & Hyde in the outskirts of London this June, that’s exactly what we got.
The new show, a 1930s adaptation of the oft-retold Robert Louis Stevenson novel, focuses on Robert Jekyll, the grandson of Edward Hyde and inheritor of the family’s dark secret. It’s 19th Century literature with a modern superhero twist, and fully intends to take over Sunday-night family viewing.
The show, which premieres this Sunday at 6.30pm on ITV, filmed its first ten-episode series in London over the summer. With a gaggle of other journalists, Den of Geek visited the set and chatted with...
