Jonah Hill Talks 21 Jump Street

21 December 2009 10:09 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Jonah Hill, he of the hilarious group of actors that Apatow built, recently talked a smidgen about the "21 Jump Street" movie he's writing. The Internet had a sh*t fit about you doing 21 Jump Street because fans take the show so seriously. Are you surprised they don’t get that the show was inherently funny? Jonah Hill: Yeah, if you look at the opening episode of 21 Jump Street, you see a man looking at a picture of a cop holding a little boy’s hand, and you hear a crazy saxophone solo, and you pan up and it’s Johnny Depp looking at the picture playing the crazy saxophone solo. [Laughs.] We’re not even spoofing the movie. It’s not strictly comedic, either. We’re doing a full-on action movie, blowing shit up. Hmm I always wondered about the tone of this project. I knew it wouldn't full on »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Three

Dinner for Schmucks

Opens: July 23rd 2010

Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams

Director: Jay Roach

Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.

Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".

The question now lies not in the performers or director but the material itself and whether a Gallic comedy can »

7 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Twitter-Wood had plenty to celebrate this weekend, with a mini "Full House" reunion between John Stamos and Candace Cameron to Brett Ratner's wrap on his new Mariah Carey video and Greg Mottola's pre-release praise for Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

Elsewhere, "Eclipse" actor BooBoo Stewart is still making his photography rounds, this time picking Hugh Jackman's nose -- and Wolverine looks shockingly comfortable with the pose. Check out those posts after the jump along with Steve Agee's porn benefit surprise and Alex Meraz's stolen jacket shocker. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 7, 2009.

Here's A Bit On 'Hangover 2'

1 December 2009 1:55 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Here's what director Todd Philips had to say about the upcoming "Hangover 2." Hint - not much:Phillips, who’s currently shooting the road-movie comedy "Due Date," with Robert Downey Jr. and "Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis, says he’s midway through working on the script for the "Hangover" sequel. Though he’s keeping the plot under wraps for now, he promises "The Hangover 2", which will reunite the trio of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Galifianakis, won’t simply rehash the stag-party-disaster formula of the first film. “What people loved about The Hangover was not Las Vegas or the bachelor party but these three characters,” Phillips says. “I think you can take those characters and put them in other situations, and you don’t need the sell of Vegas and a bachelor party and all that other stuff.” I dunno Mr. Philips, I think people Do want a rehash. That's just how people are. »

Brett Ratner to Finally Go Fly ‘Kites’

20 November 2009 8:35 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

We've been suggesting for years that Brett Ratner get over himself and go fly a kite. Which as you may know is an expression for getting lost, taking a long walk off a short pier, or just generally ceasing to exist. Well, now Ratner is going to fly a kite, its just not the right kind. According to THR, the Rush Hour director has been tasked with re-editing an English-language version of Kites, from Indian director Anurag Basu. The film is set to be released internationally by Reliance Big Pictures, who wants to have one version in Hindi to play in India and one version in English to play elsewhere. The film stars Hrithick Roshan and Barbara Mori and tells the story of  a mortally wounded man who is left for dead in the heat of the desert sun. This is J. Once a street smart, carefree young guy. Edgar Wright's 'Times' Complaint, Tom Cruise And Justin Bieber In Today's Twitter-Wood

19 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

For the record, I always link back to the source and cite everyone's tweets that I use from the Twitter-Wood follow list, including Edgar Wright. That's more than can be said for an edited version of an Edward Woodward memorial he wrote on his blog that showed up in edited form on the Times website, though, according to his posts today.

I do make a minimal number of edits, such as the f-bomb in Ice-t's Twitter Pic of the Day winner today, which was followed by yet another Brett Ratner/Michael Jackson pic. You need see that one for the giant wig along. Check it all out after the jump along with a "New Moon" cast shot from Gil Birmingham, Alyson Hannigan's musical Joss Whedon nostalgia and Jamie Campbell Bower's befuddlement over Justin Bieber. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 19, 2009.

Brett Ratner to Americanize Bollywood for Us

19 November 2009 1:35 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Variety is reporting that Brett Ratner has been hand-selected by Reliance Big Pictures to re-edit a forthcoming drama of theirs, Kites, in order to make the film more accessible to international audiences. Yes, the man who made the Rush Hour trilogy has been tapped to once again crush cultural barriers (assuming that's what Reliance thinks he did with those films). The production is being filmed in both Hindi and English, so it'll be Ratner's job to make sure that the English-language cut is attractive enough for a sales market outside of India, which will only be getting the Hindi cut.

And as odd as this news seems at first, the official synopsis for Kites does seem to fit Ratner's penchant for making broad-appeal films: "In the harsh terrain of the Mexican desert, a mortally wounded man is left for dead in the heat of the desert sun. This is J. »

Ken Ober, The 'New Moon' Red Carpet And Neil Patrick Harris In Today's Twitter-Wood

17 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Last night got busy in Twitter-Wood on a few fronts. Former "Remote Control" host Ken Ober's passing surprised a number of tweeters, including Brian Posehn and Jeff Katz, who both noted his loss.

L.A.'s Westwood village theatre, meanwhile, was epicenter for all of the "Twilight" Twitterverse during the "New Moon" premiere. BooBoo Stewart posted a pic from the red carpet, Rachelle Lefevre posted her reasons for missing the event, Brett Ratner was in attendance and Kevin Smith made a date out of the night with his daughter. You can check out what they had to say after the jump along with Twitter Pic pick that I selected more for its significance than its shock value, as Neil Patrick Harris officially moved into the Twitter-Wood neighborhood. Michael Jackson Vacations With Brett Ratner In Today's Daily TwitPic

17 November 2009 6:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It's been months now since the untimely passing of Michael Jackson. Yet somehow, he remains very much a part of the public consciousness. Part of that is the documentary, "Michael Jackson's This Is It," which collects the pop legend's final rehearsal footage. Not only did the release trigger the flood of Jackson memorializing anew, the doc itself notably doesn't ever explicitly say that he's left us.

What's interesting about all of the personal remembrances to have surface is the picture that they paint. Jackson was famously reclusive in his later years, trailed by controversy and somehow standing apart from the cult of celebrity, even as he sat at its pinnacle. Only through the recent doc and the memories of his family and friends are we now getting a picture of the man behind all of that mystery. Brett Ratner is one of those people Jackson was close with, and he's »
