The Foywonder's Ten Worst Horror Films of the Decade

23 December 2009 8:31 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The first decade of the new millennium has come to an end, and that means it is now time for film sites all over the web to begin posting their various retrospectives and lists recalling the decade that was. I generally as a rule dislike such lists because they are always so subjective. Then I said screw it and took it upon myself to do one of my own naming the ten worst horror movies of the past decade. Besides, people love bitching on the Internet about lists like this, and who am I to deny readers yet another excuse to get into pointless flame wars over personal opinions.

Of course, this list is just my personal opinion which is not legally binding ... unless Proposition 304 passes. And we all pray that it will.

I set two rules when putting this list together: Only horror movies that received fairly wide theatrical »

'I was like, 'Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!' ' the 'New Moon' star recalls.

With "New Moon" still riding high at the box office and poised to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year — if not all time — the world can't seem to get enough of Robert Pattinson. It's a good thing, then, that our pals over at MTV Radio recently spoke with the "Twilight" heartthrob.

Last week, we brought you RPattz's thoughts on romances, both onscreen and off. Now, as those Thanksgiving leftovers wear thin, we're happy to dish out part two of that interview, featuring some yummy tidbits on Rob's 90-year-old fans, jealousy over Taylor's bod, and his New Year's resolution to be less self-deprecating.

MTV: Taylor Lautner's transformation between the movies is now the stuff of legend. »

Daybreakers Extended TV Trailer

29 November 2009 11:10 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

We haven't talked much about Daybreakers, the upcoming vampire film by writer/director siblings Michael and Peter Spierig, but the release of the film's extended TV trailer seems reason enough to shed some light on it. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe in a world where vampires rule, and humans are a minority hunted for blood. In the trailers it's revealed that the vampires blood supply is dwindling, and that they're searching for a synthetic blood substitute. There's also talk of a "cure"---apparently the worldwide vampirism was caused by a plague of some sort. I like the film's reversal by making vampires the dominant group, and overall it looks like a perfectly stylish blend of sci-fi and horror. Quite honestly, I was hoping we'd eventually see a film with this premise in the Blade universe, but we can thank David Goyer for running that into the ground with Blade: Trinity. »

Casting For ‘The Crow’ Reboot Has Begun

24 November 2009 9:54 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Ever since it was announced that Blade director, Stephen Norrington, was going to be writing and directing a reboot of The Crow franchise, there’s been speculation as to what shape his take on the classic comic and film character would be. At the time Norrington’s attachment was announced, it was revealed that the new version wouldn’t be, “gloriously gothic or stylized,” and this upset quite a few people who consider stylized goth to be the essence of The Crow story.

Norrington’s version is said to be, “realistic, hard-edged and mysterious,” which sounds like they’re trying to emulate the reboot success of Batman Begins with more brutality. That’s what I hope, anyway, although maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

It was recently announced that the latest draft of Norrington’s Crow has been well received by studio Relativity Media, so much so »

Casting For The Crow Remake Underway

23 November 2009 2:50 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Casting is underway for the next theatrical iteration of The Crow, and the actor chosen will face the still-daunting task of walking in the late Brandon Lee's Goth-approved footsteps. Last month, I reported on an update of the script written by Blade director Stephen Norrington, and today brings an update from producer Ryan Kavanaugh (Brothers, Nine). So, what guy will be chosen---re: a female Crow is not being considered---to reprise the role of an undead rock musician who wreaks havoc on mortal goons? Let us know what you think of Kavanaugh's comments and leave your own below. Kavanaugh tells io9 that while the revamp ("not a remake") hasn't gotten an official greenlight, he foresees all facets coming together in the next few months. A release date of 2011 is currently listed on IMDb. Are you casting right now and looking? We're looking. We're in discussions....I think it's something cool, »

Snipes Appeals Overly Taxing Prison Sentence

20 November 2009 11:15 AM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online - Movies and Television news »

Not paying your taxes for five years? Understandable. Going to prison for three years as a result? Totally unreasonable. At least according to Wesley Snipes' crack (but not that crack) defense team. Attorneys for the Uncle Sam-dodging Blade star have filed an appeal against the actor's would-be imprisonment, calling the sentence "unreasonable" and claiming that his tax-evasion trial—which came to a close last February after Snipes was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a return—should have taken place in New York and not Florida. Nevermind that the 47-year-old actor's housing records showed that he lived in both states or that his legal team had ample time prior »

‘Se7en’ Writer and Director Reunite For ‘Peter Proud’

9 November 2009 10:53 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Back in 1995, director David Fincher and screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (The Wolfman) collaborated on what is now touted as a “crime classic” and “a blueprint for modern serial killer movies.” That movie was Se7en, and I totally agree with all the praise that’s been heaped upon it (it recently featured in our “Horror Plus” series).

Now, 14 years later, Fincher and Walker are going to be collaborating once more, this time on an adaptation of the novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud for Columbia. THR’s Heat Vision Blog reports the news of their involvement, along with producer Michael De Luca (Blade, Ghost Rider). The author of the book, Max Ehrlich, adapted it into a movie in 1975 of the same name, so I guess in a way this movie is a remake by Fincher (there’s that “remake or new adaptation” question again). According to THR:

Jeymes Samuel Talks Kevin Spacey’s Next Film and Gorillaz The Movie

3 November 2009 1:58 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

One of the nicest things about the McM Expo is how willing people are to talk to convention-goers. Outside of the panels and signings are comic creators and film makers who will quite happily have a conversation with anyone who approaches them.

HeyUGuys managed to snag some time with Jeymes Samuel, who has produced albums for The Gorillaz, Ben Hudson and KT Tunstall. His current project is Buskers, a film version of the comic that he wrote with graphic-novelist Sean Michael Wilson.

The film, which begins shooting in December stars Kevin Spacey, Damon Albarn, Ian Brown and Mos Def. It tells the story of Timothy Book, a former banker who falls on hard times, and ends up spending an increasing amount of time involved with London’s busking scene.

The film is being produced by Pilar Savone, associate producer on Inglorious Basterds, and will feature a soundtrack by London-based musical collective The BulliTTs. »

Luke Goss and those rumours linking him to The Crow reboot

2 November 2009 7:20 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

We recently heard that the proposed new version of The Crow is entering the casting stage after the script - by Stephen Norrington, who will also direct - was well received by studio chiefs at Relativity Media.

The Crow centres on a rock musician who is murdered trying to rescue his girlfriend from thugs and returns from the dead a year later to exact revenge. (You can read more about the reboot here)

The character was previously seen in a 1994 film starring Brandon Lee; three sequels: The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005; and a TV series The Crow: Stairway to Heaven in 1998.

Rumours have linked Luke Goss to the lead role in the new film. Goss, a former member of boy band Bros, is well-versed in fantasy roles, having played vampire Nomak in Blade 2, the creature in »

[Exclusive Interview] Norman Reedus on The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

2 November 2009 5:00 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

After all these years the Boondock Saints sequel is finally coming out. After years of rumors and all the die-hard fan’s heartaches, it’s now actually making it’s way to the big screen. In light of this, here’s what one of the film’s stars Norman Reedus had to say about the original, the sequel and what can be expected.

How was Comic Con?

Norman Reedus: Comic Con was nuts! I mean when we got on stage there was a lot of screaming people and the line for our panel was like a mile long.

Did you know before how die-hard some fans are? There are some insane ones.

Norman Reedus: Yeah, I have had experiences with people coming up to me with tattoos on their arms and some crazy stuff. I knew that we were in for quite a ride.

Horror Plus Action: Blade

31 October 2009 1:16 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Happy Halloween everyone! If you’re a regular Screen Rant reader you’ll have noticed (and hopefully read) our Halloween lead-up series called “Horror Plus.” If not, just so you know it’s a feature which sets out to showcase one film that combines horror with another genre. Each instalment will basically serve as a review of the film at hand, explaining why it’s such a good example of genre merging.

So far we’ve had Horror Plus Comedy: Shaun of the Dead, Horror Plus Sci-fi: Alien, Horror Plus Thriller: 28 Days Later and Horror Plus Crime: Se7en. And finally we come to our final installment which is Horror Plus Action.

So which film have we chosen which merges both the genres of horror and action so well? After much deliberation I decided to go with Stephen Norrington’s excellent 1998 comic-book adaptation, Blade, starring Wesley Snipes as the titular vampire killer. »

31 October 2009 8:43 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Blood: The Last Vampire fights its way to Blu-ray and DVD November 2. The movie is a slick and stylised English adaptation of the hugely popular cult hit anime series of the same name. The movie is full of blood and gore, so in celebration of this release, we have compiled a short list of some of the bloodiest films to date. Chances are, if you loved these films and relished the blood, then you will love Blood: The Last Vampire. The name speaks for itself!

Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)

It is clear to see that Blood: The Last Vampire sticks true to its gory genre. In many of the scenes, Saya is surrounded by a group of demons. The creativity of their deaths is the winning factor here, for example in one scene she decapitates a demon by throwing a metal grate at it, and slices another in half to create an upward blood fountain, »

Daily Wtf: Twilight’s Edward Cullen named the most popular vampire in movies

26 October 2009 1:03 PM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Either it’s a sign of the end times or a sign of Twilight’s undying popularity (pun intended) but Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen has been named moviedom’s favorite vampire.

In a survey conducted by ad agency Pearl & Dean, Twilight’s Cullen received 38% of the vote from more than 3,000 movie-going fans. Behind Cullen is Christopher Lee’s classic Dracula and Wesley SnipesBlade. Fruity fanged one Lestat, played by Tom Cruise in Interview With the Vampire, was No.4.

Kate Beckinsale’s Selene from the first two Underworld films napped top prize for a female with Salma Hayek’s snake-charming and hip-shaking Santanico Pandermonium (From Dusk Till Dawn) taking second amongst women.

“People love to be scared witless, particularly at this time of year,” said Pearl & Dean CEO Kathryn Jacob. “Edward Cullen being voted firm favorite movie vampire is testament to the fact that people still enjoy a good bloodsucker. »

Norrington submits script for The Crow

22 October 2009 5:51 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Stephen Norrington (Blade) has submitted his script for a new take on The Crow to Relativity Media. The script has apparently been getting praise and Norrington has promised an “almost documentary style” approach. This, in an effort to differentiate his film from the original.

Norrington’s version of The Crow, based on James O’Barr’s modern classic graphic novel, in not intended to be a remake of the first movie. In fact, it may not even be a remake of the graphic novel, per se. Norrington has also promised a “new character and storyline” as well, which raises a question of how different?

The first film (and only good one) was a Gothic take, dark and moody. directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City) and starred Brandon Lee, immortalized by his role in the film and his tragic, somewhat mysterious and untimely death during production.
