#1 James Cameron to redo “The Fantastic Voyage”
Now don’t be getting too excited because there’s no news that Cameron will direct the project but Variety does report that Cameron is producing the film and from what I can gather, the project (and a few more to follow) is an effort to make use and money from the expensive technology he spent years prepping for Avatar. It’s a great opportunity to remake this sci-fi classic but with “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem” writer Shane Salerno on board to adapt the original story, I can’t say I’m all that excited.
#2 Natalie Portman starring in “Pride Prejudice and Zombies”
This seems like an odd pairing but Portman does have the looks for period drama though I’m not sure what possessed her to agree to a period piece about a man searching for love amidst a zombie outbreak. Portman

Hippie Hippie Shake
Opens: 2010
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby
Director: Beeban Kidron
Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.
Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.
Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence

A representative for Hollywood actress Liv Tyler has blasted rumours she's dating Scrubs star Zach Braff.
The pair was linked by a recent tabloid report that suggested they had enjoyed a cosy date in a Los Angeles wine bar.
A source alleged, "Zach had his arm wrapped around her and was whispering in her ear."
But Tyler's publicist insists the meeting was purely business, telling People magazine, "They are not dating. They were meeting about a film that Zach is directing."
The Armageddon actress has been single since splitting from her husband of five years, Royston Langdon, last year.

What Is James Cameron Working On?

Now that his latest labour of love (and shouting at people to do better) is finally over and Avatar is days away from our cinemas, you might think James Cameron would take it easy for a while. But that's not really his style: he's apparently developing another sci-fi script.Okay, so he's probably not jumping straight back into production on another film, but it looks like Cameron will be keeping a few cinematic irons hot while he ponders his next move. Case in point? Production Weekly's report of him overseeing a screenplay from Aliens Vs Predator - Requiem/Shaft/Armageddon writer Shane Salerno. It's described as an "action script of Fox, an 'event' film set in the future." Naturally, speculation will fly, but it doesn't necessarily sound like Battle Angel Alita, which Cameron has been slowly designing alongside Avatar, nor does it point to any of his other announced projects.

James Cameron is Working on Another Sci-Fi Action Movie?

Yes, I know, there are only 9 days left until James Cameron's Avatar finally hits theaters, so this may be part of the big hype machine, but there could be some truth to it. Late last night, Production Weekly posted a rather interesting Twitter stating simply: "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an 'event' film set in the future." Salerno previously wrote Armageddon, Shaft, and Avp: Requiem and has a lot of other scripts floating around. Could this really be Cameron's next project? Or is it just another project that he's setting up following Avatar? What else does he have lined up?
We're probably going to be hearing a lot about what Cameron's planning "next" after Avatar over the next few months. Of course there's the inevitable Avatar sequel, which we may or may not see depending on what happens on December 18th.

James Cameron Prepping His Next Epic at Fox with Salerno?

The Twitter feed for Production Weekly has become a hot bed of mini movie updates over the past year and most often times I ignore it quite simply because taking the time to turn a 140 character or less production note into a full post is a waste of time, but last night an interesting detail was announced that can be expanded upon.
The update said James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an "event" film set in the future. This, of course, has people scratching their heads wondering what it could be. Well, the only way to figure that out is to see what Shane Salerno has been up to, which leads us to this year-old story.
Back in September 2008, The Hollywood Reporter said Fox has picked up Doomsday Protocol in a seven figure deal, an original spec by Shane Salerno. Plot

Production Weekly is reporting that "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an 'event' film set in the future." No other details are available, but most people think the project might be Doomsday Protocol, a film which was announced last year.
James Cameron wasn't mentioned in the initial The Hollywood Reporter announcement, which included the following plot details:
"Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is known to be an epic science fiction adventure in the vein of The Seven Samurai involving a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth."
In June 2009, it was mentioned in Variety that Salerno was developing a project for Cameron, but no one connected the dots. Shane Salerno, whose credits include Avpr: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem, Ghost Rider, Shaft and Armageddon, crafted the screenplay on spec,

Michael Bay -- the director known for such bid-budget action films as "Transformers," "Pearl Harbor" and "Armageddon" -- recently directed a commercial. For Victoria's Secret.
The spot debuted during the 2009 "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show," which aired on CBS last week.
It includes plenty of Bay's trademarks: helicopters, fire and, of course, explosions.

This is definitely movie related. Michael Bay is a famous director, and his commercials matter to us. This just happens to be a commercial for a lingerie line filled with beautiful women from parts unknown. But you know, it’s directed by Michael Bay, the director of such Hollywood hits as “Armageddon”, “Transformers”, and “Bad Boys”. So, yes, it’s definitely movie-related. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Michael Bay has directed a Victoria's Secret commercial. No, that's not the premise for a Saturday Night Live skit involving enormous robots doing battle while wearing sexy lingerie. Bay, the director of slick, explosion-y mega-hits like Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and the Transformers films, as well as numerous commercials, brings all the hallmarks of his style to his latest ad for Victoria's Secret. These aren't just shots of beautiful women in undergarments. These are shots of beautiful women in undergarments straddling pool tables, being followed by black helicopters, posing in front of a massive fireball, and, for some odd reason possibly

A Serious Man may be getting rave reviews – but it's like nothing the Coens have made before. Joe Queenan on weird one-offs and the directors who make them
About halfway through the very funny, very disturbing, very ethnic new film A Serious Man, the modern-day Job who is the serious man in question climbs up on to the roof of his ghastly 1960s Minneapolis suburban home and tries to adjust the antenna to improve his TV reception. Beleaguered on all fronts – conjugally, professionally, medically – Larry Gopnik, a dorky physics professor who may be about to lose his job and is very likely to lose his family, is a bright, principled Jewish man whose children have begged him to fix the antenna so they can watch F Troop, an idiotic 1960s comedy. Many of Larry's travails unfold as songs from Jefferson Airplane's seminal 1967 LP Surrealistic Pillow play in the background.

Two New Editors for Universal's Wolf Man

Universal's upcoming The Wolfman re-imagining has been bogged down for the past three years by countless production setbacks, constantly changing release dates, a new director, and most recently the loss of their composer Danny Elfman. What else could happen with Wolfman that hasn't already happened?
They could bring in two new editors, that's what. The relentless news excavators over at /film dug up this news out of the gutter of a Variety article not even about the movie. It looks like Mark Goldblatt, action editor extraordinaire, and Walter Murch, the man who literally wrote the book on editing, will come on to Joe Johnston's movie and try to clean it up a bit.
A Goldblatt/Murch pairing is certainly an interesting one, with Goldblatt working such action pieces as Armageddon, Bad Boys 1 & 2, and both Terminator films, and Murch handling slightly more dramatic pieces like Cold Mountain and The English Patient.

Universal has had plenty of frustrating, worrisome and even recent problems with Wolfman and it looks like they're still reeling from them, as new info buried deep in a Variety article (found by SlashFilm) says editors Mark Goldblatt and Walter Murch have been brought in to help salvage this monster movie that has really become a monster in itself. While I'm wondering how much involvement director Joe Johnston has in these decisions, and exactly how close this is to resembling the original vision for this film, Goldblatt and Murch will be fresh eyes on the project and their extensive editing work speaks for itself. Read on!
Goldblatt has had quite the experience in the editing chair having put together both of James Cameron's Terminator films, as well as putting together the frantic, abundance of dailies from director Michael Bay's films like Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. Meanwhile, Murch has

Of all the big films on the docket for next year, the one I’m most concerned about is The Wolfman. The second trailer for the film looked pretty badass, I’ll admit – but this movie has suffered a plagued production from the get-go. A change in directors, callbacks for reshoots and re-designs in the creature effects… It all points to a studio trying to turn lead into gold through the usual movie alchemy.
Well, the guys over at Slash Film must have magnifying glass eyes, because they spotted something deep-six buried in an article over at Variety, which names editors Mark Goldblatt and Walter Murch as the two guys hired to do a recut of The Wolfman!
This revelation comes without the usual fanfare from the blogosphere that goes with every little development on a major movie – suggesting that the studio is trying to keep the continuing problems with

Yes, it’s lame, and I apologize to you die-hard “My Heart Will Go On” fans out there. It was released today by Atlantic Records that James Horner’s score for Avatar would be hitting CD shelves on December 15th. With this announcement came word that not only would the soundtrack be filled with Horner’s score, but it will also be including an original song, “I See You,” performed by Leona Lewis.
For those of you who don’t know who that is (I had to look it up myself), she is a multi-platinum and three-time Grammy nominated R&B singer songwriter. The song, which, honestly, should have been written about seven years ago for that little-seen Stallone vehicle, Eye See You, is also being co-produced by Horner and Simon Franglen, both of whom did producing work on Titanic’s Academy Award winning song. A companion music video is

DVD Playhouse—November 2009
By
Allen Gardner
Watchmen—The Ultimate Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday

Top 7 Movies That Make The End of the World Sound Hilarious

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
Somehow, the end of the world has become a form of entertainment. Instead of being scared out of our wits of apocalyptic thoughts, we enjoy plunking down $10 to watch them become realized by big budget blockbusters. Hollywood serves it up, however: whole cities are destroyed, hundreds of thousands of people die, the fate of mankind is brought into question, and sometimes, Randy Quaid becomes our savior.
Which brings us to a certain theme that has been continued through a legacy of doomsday movies – they’re funny as hell. More unintentional than not, these movies are loaded with goofy movie milestones that make the blockbusters seem like gargantuan scaled jokes, with their characters, dialogue, and special moments serving as a type of punch line. Many disaster movies seem to be plagued by an air of idiocy that moves from one big budget movie to the next,

2012: Day 4 – The Music Videos

In our final part of Wamg’s look at 2012, we’ll show you the music video from Roland Emmerich’s latest film as well as more memorable ones from other related movies. Somewhere along the line it became the norm to have a song tagged onto the end credits of a film, noticeably the disaster ones, where you come out of the theater, ahem, emotionally drained. You go home, only to see on your TV or computer that the filmmakers/studios thought an accompanying music video was needed as well. Columbia Pictures has got the jump on that idea for 2012 by pre-releasing Adam Lambert’s “Time For Miracles,” full of what we’ve come to expect from our “based on the film” music videos…complete with scenes of explosions and mayhem from the movie.

2012: Day 3 – The Posters

In Part 3 of Wamg’s look at 2012, we’ll take a look at the posters marketing the film as well as other disaster themed posters. Back in August, I showed you some of the dazzling posters from director Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic movie. For me, there’s nothing better than when you go into the theater, movie posters towering all around, and you instinctively walk right up to one that catches your eye… especially the visually cool ones. That film is immediately locked into the brain and you begin thinking about what the first teaser for the film will look like on the big screen. Funny enough, this latest one for 2012 is reminiscent of The 10 Commandments, although Heston’s “Moses” has a far better outcome, and with a totally different type of ”God’s Wrath” looming in the distance. No burning bush or stone tablets to save this Tibetian Monk.

‘Man on Wire’ Director Gets Supernatural with ‘Vatican Tapes’

Director James Marsh, who brought us last year's best documentary (in my opinion) Man on Wire, is taking the jump to genre filmmaking with the upcoming supernatural thriller The Vatican Tapes.
Lionsgate and Lakeshore Ent. are producing the flick, according to THR, which follows the story of a series of events that unfold after a tape gets leaked from the Vatican displaying an exorcism that goes wrong. It's the kind of story that will bring the Da Vinci Code protesters back out into the streets.
It will be interesting to see how this one turns out. The script is coming from Chris Borrelli, who is making his feature script debut. His major credit is serving as a miniatures videographer on Michael Bay's Armageddon. Marsh is a solid director though, with not only Man on Wire to his credit, but also the 2005 indie drama The King, starring Gael Garcia Bernal and William Hurt.
