From a young age, Ángela Aguilar always knew that her purpose was to keep traditional música Mexicana alive. It’s a family affair, really: Her grandfather was ranchera hero Antonio Aguilar and her father is the renowned singer Pepe Aguilar.
The 20-year-old singer continues to invigorate traditional sounds as she releases her latest album, Bolero, on Friday. The nine-track project captures the singer giving new life to romantic classics, backed by castanets and the soothing plucks of guitar, on tracks like “Piensa En Mi,” “Somos Novios,” and “Luna Lunera.”

January 11, 1999, 25 years ago to the day, was Jon Stewart’s first night hosting The Daily Show.
The comedian took over from Craig Kilborn, who had hosted the Comedy Central show from July 21, 1996. Stewart’s first guest was Michael J. Fox, promoting Spin City.
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart went on to win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series for ten consecutive years between 2003 and 2012, before losing to The Colbert Report, a show that he exec produced, for a couple of years, and then coming back to win in 2015 in his final season.
It’s a run that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver looked like it might replicate with seven wins in the category – then known as Outstanding Variety Talk Series – starting in 2016.
However, Oliver is now competing on Monday night at the primetime Emmys in a new category, Outstanding Scripted Variety Series, up against Saturday Night Live and A Black Lady Sketch Show,...

A sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl merits no less than a special guest — or two. During Kali Uchis’ show at the storied Los Angeles venue, the singer surprised fans with special appearances from Omar Apollo and Tyler, the Creator during her career-spanning set.
After opening her show with “Muñekita” and her Tyler, the Creator collab “See You Again” by herself, Uchis welcomed frequent collaborator (and gay bestie) Apollo for his verse on Red Moon in Venus‘ “Worth the Wait.” The Mexican singer received a lap dance from Uchis’ backup dancers during the performance.

Wim Wenders could be the Bob Dylan of European cinema: always around, always the same, always different. Sometimes he’ll arrive in Cannes with a documentary, like 2018’s Pope Francis: A Man of His Word, and sometimes he’ll come with a work of fiction, like his timeless 1984 Palme d’Or winner Paris, Texas. This year, he’s coming with one of each: Anselm, a 3D portrait of artist Anselm Kiefer, and Perfect Days, the story of a Tokyo toilet cleaner. Ironically, Wenders thought he’d have more time on his hands after the pandemic and moving on from his role at the European Film Academy. How wrong he was…
Deadline: You have two films in Cannes. Which would you prefer to start with?
Wim Wenders: Let’s start with the one that was in the works longer. That would be Anselm, which was shot all through the...

Us presenter is to make Rosewater, an adaptation of BBC reporter's memoir about being tortured in Iran
The host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, is to take a 12-week break this summer in order to make his directing debut on the true-life political drama Rosewater, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Stewart has also written the screenplay for the project, an adaptation of BBC reporter Maziar Bahari's New York Times bestselling memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival. It is based on Bahari's experiences at the hands of the Iranian government in 2009 while covering an election protest.
The Iranian-Canadian journalist was interrogated and tortured for 118 days before eventually being released on the condition he spied and reported on Iran's enemies for the Revolutionary Guard. Instead, Bahari fled the country and returned to his home in London. He has not been back to Iran,...

Have you ever stayed up late to watch a movie you know nothing about, only to watch it worsen before your eyes? We highlight a weird TV phenomenon...
As our article about great post-pub movies demonstrates, we’re not averse to watching movies after the witching hour, especially if we may have already enjoyed a beer or two. And with the wealth of cable and digital channels available, there’s always a wealth of movies to choose from at around midnight, whichever night of the week it is - for some reason, the films of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone appear to be on constant rotation on certain channels.
Now and again, though, we’ll forgo our addiction to such classics as Red Heat or Rambo: First Blood Part II (films that, thanks to the rotation mentioned above, mean we’ve seen bits of them well over a dozen times...

While Halloween II didn't cut up the box office the way they were hoping, the weekend was still a good one for The Weinstein Co./Dimension films, and they're not done with Michael Myers just yet.
The indie studio's co-chairman Bob Weinstein told the L.A. Times today that another installment of the series is in-development for 2010, titled simply: Halloween 3-D
According to the paper, Weinstein said Rob Zombie, who directed "Halloween II" and 2007's reboot of the 31-year-old horror series, won't return for "Halloween 3-D." He said the studio is in negotiations with a new director, whom he declined to name, who has experience in horror and has a "different take" on the franchise.
Share your thoughts in the comments section below, or check out the lengthy Halloween 3-D thread in the Fangoria Forums, which user btm7969 started way back on June 21st. Wishful thinking?
