As of late, there hasn't been any word yet on the distribution plans for the live action adaptation of the popular fighting video game Tekken in North America. Meanwhile in Japan, the marketing campaign has started to set in motion with the arrival of the teaser poster at the Japanese official site featuring Wushu martial artist Jon Foo (Tom-Yum-Goong) as Jin Kazama on the front. Kudos goes to costumes designer/make-up department for getting the likeness right.
Based on the long running and highly successful Namco video game franchise of the same name, Tekken is a high-octane, action packed thriller written for the screen by Alan McElroy (Spawn, The Marine) and to be directed by Dwight Little (Anacondas, Murder at 1600) with fight choreography tentatively by Dion Lam (Spider-Man 2, Doom, Red Cliff).
Set in 2039, the film promises non-stop high flying action as the greatest fighters from around the world

Mel Gibson may have just made his acting comeback with the yet-to-be-released Edge of Darkness and the Jodie Foster-directed comedy, The Beaver, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing his work as a director. After impressing with The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto, it looks like Gibson will be working with Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time as he directs an untitled Viking movie.
Variety’s BFDealmemo reports that Gibson will direct and DiCaprio will star in the yet-to-titled movie set in the world of the Viking culture. The movie will be scripted by the award-winning William Monaghan, who penned such films as The Departed and Body of Lies. The Departed producer, Graham King, will produce the Viking movie, along with Gibson himself and Tim Headington in a co-production between King’s Gk Films and Gibson’s Icon Productions.

Image Comics is printing a compilation of classic Spawn comics in hardcover form as Spawn Origins Collection Deluxe Edition Volume #1. Written and illustrated by creator Todd McFarlane, the book features contributions from high profile writers including Alan Moore, Frank Miller and Grant Morrison. The volume also sees the character's crossover with Dave Sim's Cerebus in issue # 10 return to print for the first time since 1994. "It hasn't been reprinted since it first came out," said Sim. "I'm very glad that's all over with after 14 years. "Todd sent me black and white scans of Spawn (more)

Phil Hester checked out the first episode of "Jersey Shore" this week and now appears to be contemplating the life of a supervillain, according to his tweets. Rob Liefeld, meanwhile, was pondering the future of comics last night and laid down a prediction for how long they'll be around in their current form.
Elsewhere, artist Nikki Cook watched one of my all-time favorite episodes of "Highlander: The Series," which features the best use of her song "Cherry Bomb" in the history of television. There's an episode of the "The O.C." that ranks just beneath it. Check out those tweets after the jump, as well as Geoff Johns' promise for the next issue of "Blackest Night: Flash" and some new Todd McFarlane artwork.
It's all in the Twitter Report for December 4, 2009.

Next to Todd McFarlane’s never-ending Spawn project, the third part in The Chronicles of Riddick sequel has to be one of the most anticipated non-moving projects ever. Having heard only tid-bits on the project for the past two years, Riddick 3 is one of those films that you almost forget was ever in the pipeline to begin with. However it looks like that could all be about to change as Vin Diesel confirms that they are now scouting locations for the shoot!
Making the announcement on this Facebook page, the 42-year-old actor posted just one sentence, announcing what Riddick fans have been waiting to hear since 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick:
The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.
Fortunately, by the time filming begins I’ll be just a short $200 plane trip away from Nz in Melbourne, so I’ll definitely be waiting

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has revealed that his proposed animated and live-action projects based on the character are still on track. In an interview with Newsarama, the Image co-founder announced that significant work has been completed on the animated series and that a script outline has been drafted for the feature. "The animation, we've put about a year and a half of work into it; we got pretty far along, then we got into a bit of a legal tussle. So it got boxed up and put into a corner. But at the end of this year, all that work and all those rights come back to me," he said. "We've got 90 minutes of it scripted, voiced, backgrounds, characters - everything is done other than (more)

"30 Days of Night: Dark Days" looks to be winding down shooting in Vancouver, as actress Diora Baird tweeted that yesterday was her final day on set. It sounds like she had a lot of fun, though.
And speaking of fun things, "Mouseguard" creator David Petersen has been working on "Muppet King Arthur" and posted a peek at what his Gonzo looks like. Check that out after the jump along with with some artwork from Todd McFarlane, "Smallville" commentary from both Geoff Johns and Erik Larsen and Matt Fraction's guide to Steely Dan.

"Judge Dredd" is still moving forward, according to Jock's tweets today. That new "Judge Dredd" fan film that he mentioned last week got a few other creators tweeting today, including Pj Holden and Dwight MacPherson, who launched jabs at the Stallone incarnation.
Elsewhere in the comics Twittersphere over the weekend, Rob Liefeld posted a video of his sons checking out "Image United" to see how his old characters would play to a younger generation, proving both that his sons share his enthusiasm for superheroes and that they would definitely buy an Overtkill series. "FoxTrot" creator Bill Amend, meanwhile, was watching his own son play "Assassin's Creed 2." Find how how that experience has shaped his perspective on "World of Warcraft," along with what Todd McFarlane's been working on and what Tim Seeley thought of the cosplay at Daisho Con in Wisconsin. Even though Veteran's Day doesn't give your kid a day off from school (Neil Gaiman checked), the Twitter Report joins all of the creators in our feed today acknowledging the risks taken and sacrifices made by service men and women alike.
Not all of the V's in today's posts belonged to Veteran's Day, though. Now in its second week, "V" watchers are starting to decide how much they like (or dislike) ABC's remake of the '80s TV series. Brian Reed and Paul Southworth were among those sticking with it.
Meanwhile, Jill Thompson was soliciting Twitter advice last night for an "X-Men" bet, Jamal Igle made his pick for best superhero movie of all time, and Todd McFarlane offered more advice to aspiring creators.

The Twitter Report joins most of the comics community today in wishing "Sandman" and "Coraline" creator Neil Gaiman a happy birthday today. That wish might not be able to compete with the illustrated sushi card he received today, but he's a favorite around here, and we hope the day is good to him.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" has been a trending Twitter topic for weeks now, but after last night's official launch, more tweeters are transitioning over into actually playing the game instead of just talking about it—and Brian Michael Bendis is among them. Phil Hester, meanwhile, prefers pinball.

Edgar Wright had to broadcast a warning tweet today after accidentally getting some followers' hopes up that he was in the process of uploading the first trailer for "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." It would have been incredibly retro of him if he were actually using a dial-up connection as he originally posted.
Meanwhile, Todd McFarlane uploaded a scene from his Halloween weekend that may be fake, but remember: this is the man who created Spawn. Baseball didn't seem to be nearly as popular a tweet topic last night as it has been throughout the rest of the World Series. Matt Fraction, however, expressed his wishes to see the Phillies and Yankees drag out the post-season as long as possible. Every year, baseball fans sweat through months of America's favorite pastime anticipating a national champion. It's not a mania exclusive to mere mortals either, as comic book characters aplenty have expressed their unique love of the game throughout the history of the medium.
This is no surprise, really, given the abundant portion of comic book creators who boogie to the baseball beat. Everyone from contemporary Marvelites Joe Quesada and writer Matt Fraction to baseball-collecting Spawn creator Todd McFarlane to classic creators like the late Gardner Fox (who named DC's premier super team the Justice League after professional baseball's organizational stylings) have demonstrated just how deep their love of the game runs.
With that in mind, it's time to take a wacky trip through the magical, slightly out-of-context baseball imagery selected from around the Internet!

Hey suckah, if you ain’t been out to theaters to see Black Dynamite take on The Man, you need to get gone already!
It might sound like I’m joking, but Black Dynamite is a movie seriously worth watching (see our review) and it’s in theaters now, still waiting for people just like you to come along and turn it into the cult-hit it’s destined to become. But if you think you can hide from the badass kung fu brother who drives $5,000 cars and wears $100 suits, you wrong, suckah - Dead wrong - because Black Dynamite will be blowing up on your TV screen in full Technocolor Blanimation (that’s 20% blacker than animation) all too soon!
After all the ra-ra we’ve done for this film I don’t know how you could possibly Not know what it’s about, but just in case:

Who Should Play The New Crow?

Mania.com’s Comics 2 Film has exclusively learned that the latest script draft for Stephen Norrington’s (Blade) reboot of The Crow has been “well received” by studio Relativity Media. The reboot is based on the cult-fav comic book character created by James O’Barr in the late 80s, which went on to become a 1994 cult-hit movie directed by Alex Proyas (Knowing), starring the late-great Brandon Lee.
Norrington was recently quoted about his own vision for The Crow, and said, “Whereas [Alex] Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style.” With Norrington’s script getting the thumbs up from execs, The Crow will reportedly fly into production soon, with the next logical step being casting.
So who should play the new Crow?
For you readers not familiar, Proyas’ film was not exactly “art-house,” and when the subject of your film is

Spawn Animated Series Update From Todd McFarlane

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has been talking A Lot lately about everything Spawn - a new Spawn movie (sort of), but more importantly, the Emmy-winning Spawn animated series that used to run on HBO from 1997-1999. Yes, Todd McFarlane has done a lot of Spawn talking lately - talking, not walking.
So is it really possible that the Spawn Animated Series is returning to television?
MTV Splash Page recently caught up with McFarlane and by all accounts the man swears that he will be delivering animated Spawn unto us again.
Now, part of what’s held up the Spawn property from TV and movie ventures (and nabbing T McF a nice paycheck) is - what else but - legal disputes. But word is the suits are getting worked out and the dust is beginning to settle, leaving McFarlane free to attempt a late-decade Spawn resurrection (get it?).
And apparently T

Say what you will about the live-action movie, but HBO's late-'90s animated series "Todd McFarlane's Spawn" was one of the most faithful adaptations of a comic book to ever hit the screen. Taking full advantage of the network's restriction-free environment, the 18-episode series managed to offer the same violence, sex and dark, adult-oriented tone that made McFarlane's "Spawn" comic such a success.
And now the Emmy-winning series could be headed back to television.
I spoke to McFarlane about his recent announcement that the "Spawn" animated series could be returning to production in 2010, and got the lowdown on why next year could be a big one for the popular Hellspawn, and what form his big comeback could take if it happens.
"I had a lot of people saying they loved the animated series more than the movie, because the movie was PG-13 and HBO wasn't shy about going into

Being one of the world’s largest talent and literary agencies, Icm already boasts an impressive list of clients such as actors Jodie Foster and Al Pacino, director Woody Allen, television personality Ellen DeGeneres, author Patricia Cornwell and musician Beyoncé, to name a few.
As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, Morrison has 20 years under his belt, penning fan-favorite works like Jla, X-Men, Doom Patrol and the current Batman and Robin. The spotlight has shined on him even more lately thanks to his ‘Batman: R.I.P.’ and Final Crisis projects, and the gaming world got a dose of Morrison thanks to his classic Arkham Asylum: A Serious Place On Serious Earth graphic novel that became the inspiration for the hit video game Batman: Arkham Asylum.
