Robert S. Baker and Roger Moore on the set of The Persuaders

On September 30, producer Robert S. Baker passed away at age 92. Baker had a long history of feature film production credits, mostly on B movies in his early years. However, he was a major force in British television in the 1960s. It was Baker who managed to bring both

The Saint and The Persuaders to the air. He became Roger Moore's producing partner and the two made the 1969 adventure film Crossplot together. He also served as executive producer on the short-lived, but excellent British series The Baron.

In an E mail to Cinema Retro, legendary Hammer horror writer and director Jimmy Sangster wrote:

Salt Trailer Starring Angelina Jolie (in English)

Earlier this week, a Russian trailer for the upcoming Angelina Jolie action-thriller Salt found its way online, but was quickly pulled down by Sony... and really, who wants to see a low-quality, dubbed version of a trailer anyway? (A lot of people... I know.) Today they have debuted the first domestic trailer for the film over at Yahoo! [1], and although it looks fairly action-packed, I can't say there is anything all that noteworthy about it either. Is Angelina Jolie really the biggest current female action star? It seems weird to say that, but I guess her filmography proves it. Either way, I'm sure they're hoping to attract fans of Wanted with this one. The production history on Salt has kind of a weird twist in that Tom Cruise was originally supposed to star in the lead role (and not in drag). Somewhere along the way they rewrote the story so »

According to VancouverFilm.Net , the September 2009, British Columbia provincial budget contains no new tax relief for the local film/TV industry, looking to increase BC's 35% labour-based tax credit. The new budget was revealed as British Columbia currently faces the biggest provincial deficit in its history. In recent weeks, the BC film/TV sector become increasingly agitated as the province began losing Us projects to Ontario, including the recent move to Toronto of Vancouver-based Brightlight Pictures, noted for a string of Uwe Boll-directed features, setting-up shop in Ontario to lense a Us service production remake of the 1962 UK TV series The Saint, based on the works of author Leslie Charteris. 'Mixed Blood' for Samuel Jackson

Phillip Noyce will direct the indie police thriller Mixed Blood, with Samuel L Jackson to co-star, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kelly Masterson (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead) is adapting from Roger Smith's novel of the same name, which was published last year by Henry Holt & Co.

The story will center on an American fugitive being forced to make violent and terrifying choices to protect his family while drawing the attention of murderers, kidnappers, corrupt cops and a detective, portrayed by Jackson.

Principal photography is scheduled to start early next year.

Noyce is perhaps best know for helming such films as Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Saint.

He is currently directing Salt, starring Angelina Jolie. »

Phillip Noyce. Thriller. Disaster Zondi. You could say that this news had me excited at the word 'Zondi,' even though I have no idea what it means. So for your sake and my own, some clarification: Phillip Noyce, the man who directed Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, The Bone Collector, The Saint, and Catch a Fire (and the forthcoming Salt) has been tapped to direct a thriller (that one was easy) that involves an American fugitive who struggles to protect himself and family against the world of corruption and killing in South Africa. Oh, and there's a character played by Samuel L. Jackson named Disaster Zondi. If you heard a record needle just scratch, either your annoying roommate thinks it's cool to collect vinyl or your brain has the correct natural response to hearing that Sam Jackson got cast in something. Dream or Nightmare: What Will Become of the Nightmare on Elm Street Remake?

I was on the Austin, TX set of the Platinum Dunes remake of Friday the 13th last June and, while it wasn't until months later that it was confirmed, I don't think anyone on that set thought that the Platinum Dunes Wouldn't get to do the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The Dunes triumvirate of executive producer Michael Bay and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, have been on a rampage through the horror genre since the production company's formation in 2001 and, with the buzz surrounding Friday the 13th, I'm sure I wasn't the only one not surprised when the Dunes deal for A Nightmare on Elm Street was inked in December. In Little Children, Jackie Earle Haley played a paedophile. In Watchmen, he played a maniac on a never-ending mission of his own devising. Now he's combining the two in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, where he will play Freddy Krueger.Yes, that's right: they're remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street. Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes are (of course) behind it, along with original studio New Line. Music video director Samuel Bayer is directing, from a script by Wesley Strick. Strick wrote Arachnophobia and Wolf, but also the films of Doom and The Saint, so it's anyone's guess as to how this will turn out.Filming's due to start in Chicago next month, with a bunch of nubile victims teens still to be cast between now and then. Let's hope Haley brings his usual quality performance to this, and that it doesn't harm the good name of the original. »
