About a month ago I posted promo photos for the upcoming season 8 premiere of 24 (which is set to air over two nights on January 17th and January 18th). Fox has now released more, including shots with newcomer Freddie Prinze Jr. I don't mind Freddie, but I rarely see him in any dramatic (sorry, I Know What You Did Last Summer doesn't count), so I'm interested to see how he fares in 24.
Series Returns with Two-Hour Premiere Event Sunday, January 17, on Fox
Katee Sackhoff, Freddie Prinze Jr., Mykelti Williamson, John Boyd, Jennifer Westfeldt and Chris Diamantopoulos have joined the cast of 24 for the series’ eighth season. The Emmy Award-winning drama starring Kiefer Sutherland returns for its next astonishing day with a two-night, four-hour premiere beginning Sunday, Jan. 17 (9:00-11:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox.
Season Eight will unfold in New York City amidst the shadows of the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations.

Top Ten High School Horror Movies: 1996 - Present

This past fall saw the debut of the supernatural horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body, and with the film's Blu-ray and DVD release being only a few weeks away (December 29th), I thought it might be interesting to take a look back at some of the most successful high school horror films that have been released over the past 10 to 15 years.
Jennifer’s Body is a slick production, equipped with fresh young stars, a hip soundtrack, and, of course, strings of "clever" dialogue. And that’s the criteria I’ve chosen to adhere to when working on this top ten list. Some of the films included here aren’t necessarily my favorites, but they’ve been impactful and deserve the call-out all the same. At the risk of spoiling some of the choices, I chose 1996 as the eligibility year for the simple reason that it was the beginning of the glossy,

10 Examples Of A Pulse In The Modern Slasher

After the 80's passed it seemed that - for the most part - the slasher craze had finally come to a rest. Successful franchises like Halloween, Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th had been siphoned beyond emptiness and any intrigue the sub genre once offered appeared dead and buried. Then 1996 rolled around and Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell reminded us that good directing, storytelling, and acting is alive and well with the surprise hit Scream.
The next couple of years provided a massive batch of 'fresh' copycats and a handful of Scream sequels. Very few of any are remotely near noteworthy (quick nod to I Know What You Did Last Summer in order to avoid the onslaught of negative commentary from the obsessed Sarah Michelle Gellar fans out there J ), though Scream 2 remains a memorable franchise installment based solely on the unexpected axing of series favorite Randy (Jamie Kennedy) Meeks.

Still looking for that last-minute horror movie to round out your exhaustive Halloween viewing schedule? Not really in the mood to separate your expanding backside from your worn yet strangely comfortable living room couch to pay a visit to your local neighborhood video store? If so, IFC On Demand would love nothing more than to assist your lazy behind in the selection process. John Wright’s gruesome teen horror/comedy “Tormented” is currently streaming in select markets across the country. Having seen the film, I can honestly say it’s worth a look. That said, anyone with a distaste for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” or social networking sites might want to skip this one. You have been suitably, and thoroughly, warned.
Let’s put a finer point on the plot details:
The film centers on Darren Mullet, a bullied asthmatic, driven to suicide by his tormented life – ignored by his parents,

This Halloween we have a new scary movie in theaters and another installment from a gorefest series.
Going back there are scores of great, and forgettable, horror films to put you in the holiday spirit. Before you go out this Halloween, ready yourself, for if you happen to find yourself stuck in a horror film, there are ways to survive. It is a longshot, but these helpful tips will help you avoid being the cliché first act death.
10) Don’t be a jerk. Countless on screen deaths are characters that are plain rude and hated. All films have the character that every character and audience member hates, so be genial and don’t get on anyone’s bad side, because you never know if they are the killer. “Saw” films fit this category best.
9) Avoid Stereotypes. Going along with the jerk model, avoid being a stereotype as well. Usually the ditsy blond,

Tormented and Terrorized: Part One

A poolside catfight is taking place in a suburban British garden on a balmy summer’s day. Verbal abuse, accusations and recriminations charge the air as actresses Tuppence Middleton and April Pearson start pushing each other around, edging ever close to the water. One is going to get a real soaking, emerging from the swimming pool in full wet-t-shirt mode. It’s another deliberately ironic scene from Tormented, a British horror/comedy determined to take on the archetypal American high-school shocker. IFC Films gives the film its U.S. debut via its on-demand service this week.
On the location in Birmingham, England this September day, producer Tracy Brimm sums up the Tormented mission statement. “It’s an irreverent horror movie in the style of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer,” she says, “about a bullied boy returning from the dead to take murderous revenge on the classmates who were responsible.

"Scary Movie 5" is in the very early stages of works and words are, it may end up as a remake to the popular spoof series. Cinema Blend brought up the story to the surface, claiming insiders have suggested that the Weinstein Company is rebooting "Scary Movie".
If the studio indeed plans to start all over again with the series, it could mean the fifth film would feature all new characters and there will be no more of Anna Faris. Back in September, Faris has revealed to Fangoria she has no clue on the fifth movie, saying "Everyone wants to know if there will be a fifth Scary Movie and I really have no answer."
Cinema Blend further pointed out that "Scary Movie 5" won't be happening anytime soon. The site noted Weinstein doesn't plan to begin work on it until "Scream 4" is released in theaters across the U.

There Can Only Be One Highlander but Director Justin Lin Wants a Remake

“Highlander” is such a delightfully silly movie. Christopher Lambert’s Swiss accent, original songs by Queen, Clancy Brown decapitating folks as he makes his way through the story, and Sean Connery all make for a movie that is cheesy 80s action but through a camp-fantasy filter. You can’t really call it a “franchise” because that implies that anything after the first film was successful. The biggest success following “Highlander” was that the title of the sequel had the sub-title, “The Quickening”.
And now “Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin wants to remake it. Hit the jump to read the full press release and why this remake could work but not because of Justin Lin.
Sure, the “Fast/Furious” movies are dumb but next to “Highlander” they look like an in-depth documentary about the world of modified cars and the culture of street racing. Screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote

Summit Entertainment announced today that it has tapped the filmmaking team behind this spring's hit film Fast & Furious - director Justin Lin and producer Neal H. Moritz - to direct and produce respectively the studio's re-imagination of the cult film Highlander. Summit's Highlander is being written by Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Peter Davis, long time producer of Highlander, will also produce the film. Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis - Panzer Productions, Inc. in May of 2008.
Summit's film will expand on the original Highlander's core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other through the ages by tapping its newly minted creative team to take its re-imagination to new heights. Plans call for the re-imagination to spur a new franchise for the studio.
"We are privileged to have this amazing opportunity to reinvent one of the great franchises," said Patrick Wachsberger,

Trailer for Messages Deleted from the writer of Phone Booth and Cellular

The first trailer has arrived for Phone Booth / Cellular writer, Larry Cohen's, new one Messages Deleted. It's got a kind of tightly-wound I Know What You did Last Summer meets 88 Minutes vibe to it so I think it definitely has the potential to be a decedent mid-budget thriller.
Synopsis:
A quivering voice begs screenwriter, Joel Brandt, to pick up the phone on a message from his answering machine. Thinking its a prank, Joel deletes the message. The caller is found dead. Another caller leaves Joel a message; there is another murder...then another...then another. The killer has Joel's attention, and Joel now has the attention of the police.
Now the prime suspect in a series of murders, Joel discovers this psychotic killer has targeted him for a reason found within his body of work. Will Joel be able to re-write his ending, or be forced to pay the ultimate price?

Every now and then I trip over a film so incredibly quirky I have difficulty deciding if I enjoy the picture, or loathe it. Stephen King’S Sleepwalkers is the perfect example of the type of movie I’m referencing. It’s hideously taboo, cheesy and completely devoid of any form of logic. And yet, I have trouble refraining from watching the picture at least once a year or so. Does that make it a good flick? Not necessarily. However, I’m not so quick to brand this one the utter failure that so many critics have eagerly done.
Sure this tale of life draining incestuous shape-shifters is wrong on plenty of levels, but there are some great moments that really sway my negative views quite a bit. For starters, Madchen Amick is adorable as Tanya Robertson, a spunky high schooler that the shape-shifting Charles Brady (Brian Krause) immediately sets his sights on.
