Definitely better than the Kubrick Film
22 January 2011 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Having seen the Kubrick film on it's first release I loved it. I read the book last year on holiday on the recommendation of a friend. The book is truly awesome. However I was now left disappointed in the film as it deviated too much from the book. Sure Jack is brilliant in the role but the pace of the film takes him to madness far too quickly. I then found out about the mini-series and watched that. My appetite was met! If you loved the book then there is no doubt in me that the mini-series of it is the definitive telling of the story. The Kubrick film misses out on, and changes, too many important parts of the book for me. No doubt this was due to artistic differences and the time limit on a feature film (it did take the mini-series a long time to tell the story) but then, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
