Captain Jean-Luc Picard : [Quoting "Moby Dick"] And he piled upon the whale's white hump, the sum of all the rage and hate felt by his whole race. If his chest had been a cannon, he would have shot his heart upon it.
Lily Sloane : What?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : "Moby-Dick".
Lily Sloane : Actually, I never read it.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Ahab spent years hunting the white whale that crippled him, a quest for vengeance, but in the end, it destroyed him and his ship.
Lily Sloane : I guess he didn't know when to quit.
-
Lily Sloane : Jean Luc, blow up the damn ship!
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : No! Noooooooooo!
[Smashes glass and model ships with his phaser]
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : I will not sacrifice the Enterprise. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And *I* will make them pay for what they've done!
Lily Sloane : You broke your little ships.
[leaving]
Lily Sloane : See you around, Ahab.
-
Lily Sloane : Borg? Sounds Swedish.
-
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : The economics of the future are somewhat different. You see, money doesn't exist in the 24th century.
Lily Sloane : No money? You mean you don't get paid?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity. Actually, we're rather like yourself and Dr. Cochrane.
-
Lily Sloane : [after having seen the Borg] Definitely not Swedish.
-
Lily Sloane : You gotta go?
[Picard nods "Yes"]
Lily Sloane : I envy you... the world you're going to.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : I envy YOU... taking these first steps into a new frontier. I shall miss you, Lily.
-
[Picard takes the phaser from Lily, and inspects it]
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Maximum setting. If you had fired this, you would have vaporized me.
Lily Sloane : [sheepish] It's my first ray gun.
-
[Lily and Zefram had a few too much to drink at a bar]
Lily Sloane : You're going to regret this tomorrow.
Dr. Zefram Cochrane : One of the things you should have learned about me by now is that I don't have regrets.
[leaving the bar, Cochrane pulls Lily back]
Dr. Zefram Cochrane : Come on, Lily. One more round.
Lily Sloane : [pulling Cochrane off her] Z, you've had enough. I'm not going up in that thing with a drunken pilot.
Dr. Zefram Cochrane : Well I sure as hell am not going up in there sober.
-
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Six years ago, they assimiated me into their collective. I had their cybernetic devices implanted throughout my body. I was linked to the hive mind. Every trace of individuality erased. I was one of them. So you can imagine, my dear, I have a somewhat unique perspective on the Borg, and I know how to fight them. Now if you will excuse me, I have work to do.
Lily Sloane : I am such an idiot. It's so simple. The Borg HURT you, and now you're going to HURT them back.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : In my century, we don't succumb to revenge. We have a more evolved sensibility.
Lily Sloane : BULLSHIT! I saw the look your face when you shot those Borg on the Holodeck. You were almost ENJOYING it!
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : How dare you.
Lily Sloane : Oh, come on, Captain. You're not the first man to get a thrill from murdering someone! I see it all the time!
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : GET OUT!
Lily Sloane : Or what? You'll kill me like you killed Ensign Lynch?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : There was no way to save him.
Lily Sloane : You didn't even try! Where was your evolved sensibility then?
-
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : I don't have time for this.
Lily Sloane : Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt your little quest. Captain Ahab has to go hunt his whale.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : What?
Lily Sloane : You do have books in the 24th century?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : This is not about revenge.
Lily Sloane : LIAR!
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : This is about saving the future of humanity!
-
Lily Sloane : [threatening with a phaser] You want to help me? Get me out of here!
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Alright. You want a way out? Here it is.
[Picard opens window, revealing the Earth far, far below]
Lily Sloane : What is this?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Australia. New Guinea. Solomon Islands. Montana will be up soon, but you may want to hold your breath - it's a long way down!
-
Lily Sloane : [pointing a phaser] I don't care who you're with! Get me the hell out of here! NOW!
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : That's not going to be easy.
Lily Sloane : Well, you'd better find a way to make it easy, soldier, or I'm going to start PUSHING BUTTONS!
-
Lieutenant Commander Data : [inspecting the Phoenix] The structural integrity of the missile appears to be intact, but there is significant damage to various sections of the fuselage and primary intercooler system.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : We should have the original blueprints in the Enterprise computer. Commander La Forge will need to bring a team down here...
[trying to take cover as Lily fires her assault rifle]
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Hold your fire! We're here to help you!
Lily Sloane : Bullshit!
Lieutenant Commander Data : [she continues firing] Captain, I believe I can handle this.
[giving Picard his tricorder, he jumps down to a lower level, where Lily continues to riddle him with bullets]
Lieutenant Commander Data : [unaffected] Greetings.
[catching her as she passes out]
Lieutenant Commander Data : Captain, this woman requires medical attention.
-
Lily Sloane : So what do we do now?
Dr. Beverly Crusher : We carry out his orders. Dyson, Kaplan, start working on a way to modify the weapons systems.
Lily Sloane : Wait! This is stupid! If we can get off this ship and then blow it up, let's do it!
Dr. Beverly Crusher : Once the captain's made up his mind, the discussion is over.
[scoffing, Lily heads toward Picard's ready room]
Dr. Beverly Crusher : Lily!
-
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Something must have happened in Sickbay. Where are Dr. Crusher and the others?
Lily Sloane : Why did you break the cease-fire?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : We didn't attack you!
Lily Sloane : Who did?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : There's a... there's a new faction that wants to prevent your launch tomorrow morning, but we're here to help you. This may be difficult for you to accept, but you are not in Montana anymore.
-
Lily Sloane : [looking at Earth from a window on the Enterprise] There's no glass.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : [she jumps with a gasp as he touches the protective barrier] Force field.
Lily Sloane : I've never seen that kind of technology.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : That's because it hasn't been invented yet.
Lily Sloane : What?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : There's more I have to tell you.
[leading her away]
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Come on.
-
Lily Sloane : [spotting the Borg sphere in the sky] What is that?
Dr. Zefram Cochrane : [not seeing anything] That is the constellation Leo.
Lily Sloane : [pointing] No. That.
[taking cover as the sphere begins firing on the settlement]
Lily Sloane : It's an ECON!
Dr. Zefram Cochrane : After all these years?
-
Lily Sloane : How many planets are in this Federation?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Over 150, spread across 8,000 light-years.
Lily Sloane : You must not get home much.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Actually, I tend to think of this ship as home. But if it's Earth you're talking about, I try to get back whenever I can.
-
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Now, listen to me. I'm not your enemy, and I can get you home, but first you must put that weapon down and trust me. Jean-Luc Picard. My name. That's my name. What's yours?
Lily Sloane : Lily.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Welcome aboard, Lily.
-
Lily Sloane : [Picard rummages inside a Borg's body] What are you doing?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : I'm looking for the neuroprocessor. Every Borg has one. It's like a memory chip. It will contain a record of all the instructions this Borg has been receiving from the collective.
Lily Sloane : [noticing something] Oh, my. Jean-Luc, it's one of your uniforms.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : [almost indifferent] Yes, this was Ensign Lynch.
Lily Sloane : Tough luck, huh?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : [plugging the neuroprocessor into his tricorder and reviewing the data] I've gotta get to the bridge.
-
Lily Sloane : You son of a bitch.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : This really isn't the time.
Lily Sloane : Okay, I don't know jack about the 24th century, but everybody out there thinks that staying here and fighting the Borg is suicide. They're just afraid to come in here and say it.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : The crew is accustomed to following my orders.
Lily Sloane : They're probably accustomed to your orders making sense.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : None of them understand the Borg as I do. No one does. No one can.
-
Nicky the Nose : Well, well, well. Look what the cat dragged in. What's shakin', Dix?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : The usual, Nick. Martinis and skirts.
[picking up and frisking Nicky's bodyguard]
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Excuse me.
Henchman : Hey, I'm gonna take that personal in a second.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : No offense.
Henchman : [Picard grabs his violin case] Hey!
[Lily knocks him out with an ice bucket; opening the case, Picard takes out a Tommy gun and fires on the Borg]
Lily Sloane : [stopping him as he moves to physically strike a dead Borg] Hey! I think you got him.
[calming himself, Picard puts the gun down]
Lily Sloane : I don't get it. I thought you said this was all just a bunch of holograms. If it's holograms...
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : I disengaged the safety protocols. Without them, even a holographic bullet can kill.
-
Lily Sloane : How big is this ship?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : There are 24 decks, almost 700 meters long.
Lily Sloane : It took me six months to scrounge up enough titanium just to build a four-meter cockpit.
-
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : [evacuating the Enterprise] If you see Commander Riker or any of my crew, give them this.
Lily Sloane : What is it?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Orders to find a quiet corner of North America and stay out of history's way.
Lily Sloane : [shaking hands] Well, good luck.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : To both of us.
Lily Sloane : [seeing his look] You're not leaving, are you?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Lily, when I was held captive on the Borg ship, my crew risked everything to save me. There is... someone still on this ship, and I owe him the same.
Lily Sloane : Go and find your friend.
-
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : [Lily screams upon coming across a group of Borg] Come on.
Lily Sloane : Is... is there another way around?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : I know what I'm doing.
-
Lily Sloane : Watch your caboose, Dix.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard : I intend to.
