What's mazarin in English? I don't know, but I like this miniseries...

I just walked down the street towards Luleå busstation and figured I might as well pop in at Videoteket to see if anything new was in. On the news stand sat this peculiar little DVD-box named Silvermannen.

Yesterday I went down to rent the film, I just couldn't get it out of my head... Now I have seen it.

It turned out to be a three part miniseries with quite a weird plot. Directed by Ulf Malmros that made Smala Sussie (Slim Susie) and Tjenare Kungen. A man is discovered, no memory, but instead of the average amnesia story we get something rather different. At the end it doesn't make sense mind you me... But It was a hell of a ride. Malmros had done it again, or rather, made it before, since this came out on TV long before Smala Sussie, He had made a roller-coaster ride through a picturesque small town, some scenes in Stockholm, and all the way out in Egypt (doubt that they really filmed there though) and everywhere there are sprinkled out these quirky and fantastic characters.

See it, enjoy it. but don't become frustrated if you don't understand it... It is called "A Swedish Twin Peaks" for a reason...

A bit odd.

My experience of the mini series is a bit odd. I promise you'll want to eat a nice and big mazarin when watching "Silvermannen". Seriously, it was rather good, but i doubt you will ever be able to see this marvelous mini series if you didn't happen to live in Sweden seven years ago. However, somebody could have recorded the whole series and now wants to send it to you. I did not, so I couldn't possibly send it to you. Sadly.

Now on DVD
hadez-221 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Luckily, this masterpiece is now out on DVD. Ulf Malmros is one of the most interesting directors and Kjell Bergquist is one of the most underestimated actors in Sweden. This is a colorful, mysterious and funny story, with some very strange elements in it. It all takes place in a little town named "Bläcksjön" (Inklake). In the near future when electricity is rationed. Bergquist's character is at first very weird, and introvert. Coming from nowhere, he meets up with nurse Denander and she is convinced that he suffers from amnesia. When they start to reach his inner, things just go weirder. They find his car, looking brand new but it and the groceries in it is like a year old and still fresh... You must check it out!

Sara Key

Excellent for this wonderful actress Sara Key. It s a pity we don t see her any more. Productor and director have to engage her ! we can see her in some famous movies, especially Varuhuset, TV serial saw by many people. Actress of theater she still one of the best actress in Sweden. Remember her in "Don Juana"...incredible piece. You know her as an actress from TV-productions and from films as well as performing on the stage. For many the impact of serials like Varuhuset and Rederiet make them easy remember you, but as an actress the work as with Brustna Hjärtan and Strindbergsbarnet is what you hold as precious moments. I work mostly in Stockholm, Sweden, but also travel for interesting work and spend a part of the year in Europe.
