(1998) There are plenty of new faces in the quaint, somewhat eccentric Irish mountain village Ballykissangel (originally Baile Coisc Aingeal but better known to all as BallyK) this season, following the departure of leading character Father Peter Clifford (Stephen Tompkinson) and sardonic pub owner Assumpta (Dervla Kirwan). There’s a quiet new parish priest, a former monk named Father Aidan (Don Wycherley), and his impish sister Orla (Victoria Smurfit), whose beauty and spunk turns heads all over town; Sean Dillon (Lorcan Cranitch), the prodigal son of a despised landowner who returns after 20 years, and his teenage daughter Emma (Kate McEnery), and troubled Irish lad Danny Byrne (a young Colin Farrell) who comes riding in on an impounded horse. But the real star of the show is the community itself, from local entrepreneur Brian Quigley (Tony Doyle) and his endless schemes to the locals who hang at the town pub, now run by Brian’s daughter (Tina Kellegher), a marvelous collection of characters that keep the continuity going despite the turnover of its leading players. 12 episodes on a 3-disc set in a double-wide case.
