Sex & Nudity

  • Brief male nude butt when a man appears entirely naked on a battlefield. All other private areas are covered.
  • In the third act the main characters enter what is clearly a sex hotel. Several innuendos are said but nothing sexual happens.
  • The two main characters stumble upon a couple of thugs. One of the thugs pushes the girl to the ground and is implied to prepare to rape her, but he is stopped by Bruce Willis' character.
  • In two separate scenes, a man is shown nude form the back while he is being washed and scrubbed. Not mean to be sexual, but is buttocks is visible.
  • A man and woman kiss passionately.
  • Cole's rear end is seen twice, but both times it is when he is being washed down in a shower so it is non sexual.
  • A mentally ill man pulls down his trousers and reveals his butt, and runs around. This is not sexual.

Violence & Gore

  • Some men are seen beating up another person from a distance.
  • Cole fights with the orderlies when they find him during his escape. He kicks one in the gut and hits another in the face. They finally subdue and tranquilize him. We later hear that a security guard received a skull fracture during the fight.
  • A man opens the truck of a car and a woman inside kicks him in the face, then punches him, knocking him down. She then jumps on him and begins pummeling him. A small amount of blood is shown on his face, but he is not seriously injured.
  • A bloody bullet hole is seen in a man's leg as he sits in a car.
  • A woman removes a bullet from a man's leg, and she bandages the wound. Lots of blood is seen on the bullet, and a bandage.
  • A man has a recurring nightmare about a shooting in an airport. This is seen several times throughout the film, but it's flashy and very quick, and it's hard to tell what's happening exactly.
  • A man punches another man in an airport, and then chases a third man while holding a gun. He attempts to shoot the man, but airport security guards draw guns and open fire on him, and he's shot several times, and blood is seen graphically spurting from his chest once. A woman tries to staunch the bleeding, and blood is seen flowing from one of the wounds.
  • Cole holds three people at gunpoint and later they are seen tied up.
  • A man eats a live spider, the scene not exceedingly disturbing.
  • A man punches Kathryn in the face (we see her bloody nose in a few scenes). Cole grabs a telephone and repeatedly smashes her attacker in the face and head with it.
  • A brutal fight in which Cole fights two other men who attack him and Kathryn. He is punched, and she is hit and thrown to the ground. Cole brutally beats both of them, and a bloody open wound is seen on one of the attacker's heads, and it's later said that he killed one of them.
  • A man cuts out teeth from his own mouth (offscreen), and we see blood drip from his mouth, as well as the bloody tooth and a lot of blood in his hand.
  • There's a particularly intense World War I battle that is shown. Explosions and gunshots are heard. A man falls to the ground facing the camera, his face covered in blood. Another man gets shot and he is shown in a stretcher, covered in blood. Another man gets shot in the leg.

Profanity

  • 'F*ck' is said 19 times in some versions, and seven times in edited versions.
  • '*ss' is said four time, including twice paired with 'hole'.
  • 'D*mn' is said three times, including twice paired with 'God'.
  • 'B*tch' is said three times.
  • 'B*stard' is said once.
  • 'P*ssy' is said once.
  • 19 uses of "fuck", 7 uses of "shit", 4 uses of "ass" (2 used as "asshole"), 3 uses of "damn" (2 paired with "God"), 3 uses of "bitch", 1 use of "bastard", 1 use of "pussy", 1 use of "God", and 2 uses of "Jesus".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Several shots or sedatives are given to the main character throughout the film.
  • The main character is asked if he used alcohol or hard drugs.
  • The main character is on medication when he's in the psychiatric clinic and is shown under its influence.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A woman is pushed down and a man starts to unbuckle his trousers, implying planning to commit rape. Another man stops him before anything happens.
  • The ending may be distressing for some.
  • There are moments in which Cole struggles with his mind and can't distinguish between dream and reality to the point that he almost doubts his sanity. This subject is particularly intense.
  • The main theme of the film, a virus that is going to wipe out the population of the Earth, makes it very intense.
  • Brad Pitt's character is mentally ill. He does some hilarious things, which can lighten the mood of the story, but all in all, his character is disturbing to watch.
  • As the film progresses it gets more intense and eerie in each scene. The climax is amazingly intense.
