Horrible Bosses Get A Pair Of Writers

16 September 2009 12:27 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

New Line have signed up screenwriters Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley* to rework the script of absurdist comedy Horrible Bosses.According to The Hollywood Reporter, Horrible Bosses sees three friends who gang up and conspire to kill their abusive managers, presumably in a Swimming With Sharks scenario. So we're assuming that's absurdist-black, rather than absurdist-Airplane!.This isn't the first time New Line have called on Goldstein and Daley's troubleshooting talents. Last year they were hired to rework comedy Burt Wonderstone, which also has a death-in-the-workplace theme, focusing on a Vegas magician who accidentally kills his partner (by sawing him in half?). The pair also scripted The $40,000 Man, which is also in development at the studio.* You may know actor-turned-writer Daley better as Freaks And Geeks' Sam Weir.  »

10 Movie Bosses Who Are Complete Assholes

4 September 2009 12:46 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

It's no wonder what the inspiration for this list is. Mike Judge's Extract hits theaters today, giving people another dose of the workplace humor that's become almost all too common over the past few years. Odd how record numbers of people losing their jobs continually demand the hilarious office antics on television and in movies. Oh, sweet unemployed irony. So instead of waxing on about the reason for the list, I figured I'd simply point out two interesting things I found while making it. One, bad bosses know no gender lines. Two, despite having to clean out the rat traps every morning here at Fsr HQ and despite him making me "practice carrying his luggage for him" since he travels once a year, I don't actually have it all that bad working for Publisher-in-chief Neil Miller. Who knew. A quick note just to cover my ass - I didn't include Darth Vader or Hitler because their »

Hurt Locker team re-upping on Triple Frontier

10 August 2009 3:49 PM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

With the mounting success of The Hurt Locker behind them, director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal are collaborating again on a new project called Triple Frontier. The duo went to Paramount and pitched the studio on their idea, the exact nature of which is being kept a secret. We know that it's an action-adventure and that the story takes place in the shady borderzone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Easy access to two rivers and heavy vegitation make it a perfect hideaway for crimelords that don't want to attract curious onlookers.

Charles Roven (The Dark Knight), Alex Gartner (Get Smart) and Steve Alexander (Swimming With Sharks) will produce for Paramount while Bigelow and Boal will both receive executive producer credits. »

Henry Carter has seen better, less foggy days. He passes the time in a marijuana-scented fog, sucking down joints as if he needs them to breathe and barely able to keep his eyes open and his overcooked brain engaged at work. And work, it just so happens, is as a therapist to the Hollywood glitterati. He's made oodles of cash writing the best-selling self-help books "Stop Being Sad" and "Happiness Now," but the gloom-ridden guy just can't seem to follow his own advice.

Luckily, Kevin Spacey, who plays Carter in the new indie film "Shrink," has a fail-safe remedy for humanity's eternal quest to stop being sad: acting.

"I think acting is the most healthy, expressive profession one could go in," he told MTV News in a recent interview. »

The Cell 2 Blu-Ray

21 May 2009 1:16 PM, PDT | HorrorYearbook | See recent HorrorYearbook news »

We already told you that The Cell 2 was arriving on DVD on June 16th (watch trailer) but here is the Blu-Ray art for those of you who care. It is basically the same thing as the DVD art but blue! The only special feature seems to be a "behind the scenes" thingy. The Cusp is a serial killer who kills his victims and then brings them back to life; over and over again; until they beg to die; Maya is a psychic investigator who gained her powers after a 1- year coma after she was the Cusp's first victim. Now the Cusp killer is back and Maya has little time to do what she has never done before, go into the mind of a killer unprotected, and save his latest victim. From Director, Tim Iacofano, The Cell 2 stars Chris Bruno (“Prison Break”), Frank Whaley (“Swimming With Sharks”) and »

Survivor mastermind Mark Burnett is working on his own economic recovery project. The reality TV guru is teaming with ABC for Shark Tank, a show aiming to help struggling business types by rewarding them with a financial bailout. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show will follow entrepreneurs as they pitch their ideas to five multimillionaire investors, dubbed the "sharks." If the contestants fail to persuade the tycoons for funding, they walk away empty-handed. Shark Tank is based on the hit U.K. program Dragon's Den, which has run for six seasons on the BBC and is itself a knockoff of a show started in Japan. The ABC version is set to debut next season. Matt Smith Is The New Doctor Who

3 January 2009 11:56 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

With nothing but torment, the BBC1 teased people throughout the show with only the age of the new actor to play Doctor Who, as being 26. Tweeters and bloggers alike were going crazy. Some didn’t think it right that the new Doctor be younger than they are, but then, they just don’t get it then, do they?

What took me by surprise was that despite all the names that were thrown in the mix, a new one suddenly popped up as a favorite before the announcement: Matt Smith. I did my research and when it was announced, I was no longer surprised or saying what everyone else was saying: Who!?

Northampton-born actor Matt Smith has been officially announced as the new Doctor Who. Smith will appear in the iconic role starting in 2010, taking over the role from David Tennant. Smith is the 11th actor to take on the role »
