Trivia:
After Licence to Kill (1989), Michael G. Wilson and Alfonse Ruggiero wrote a script treatment for a Bond film to be released in 1991-1992 under the title "Property of a Lady," taken from an Ian Fleming short story. According to what little evidence is available about this script (and is printed in the book The Bond Files by Andy Lane and Paul Simpson), the film would have taken place in Hong Kong. Legal squabbles over the ownership of James Bond, disappointing box office results on Licence to Kill (1989), and the death of longtime screenwriter Richard Maibaum, delayed the start of production for several years. Although he was contracted to play Bond a third time (and possibly fourth time), after several years elapsed with no new film, Timothy Dalton announced he didn't want to play the role again. This opened the door for Pierce Brosnan. Several title and concept changes changed Property of a Lady into this film. more

Continuity: Q states that the pen grenade is activated by clicking 3 times, and disarmed by clicking another 3 times. Bond clicks the pen 3 times to arm it, and Q takes it back and only clicks it once to disarm it. more

Bond is back and better than ever. OK, he may not be better than ever but he's better than he's been in some time. GoldenEye has a great opening scene that is more entertaining than most entire movies. It involves bungee jumping, guns, motorcycles, planes, and nerve gas among other things. Pierce Brosnan's first effort as Bond is a remarkable one. The movie has good acting, good action, and humor. It's great escapism from start to finish. The women are beautiful and Famke Jannsen and Sean Bean play their roles well. GoldenEye also boasts one of the best finales of the series in which Bond must take on the villain atop a gigantic satellite dish. As stated earlier, Brosnan is terrific as Bond. He's suave, witty, charming, looks good in a suit, and has a capacity for action. In conclusion, this is a thrilling Bond from start to finish and should not be missed. Out of 4 stars - 3.5
