Zach Galifianakis is in talks to voice the part of Humpty Dumpty in the Shrek spin-off, Puss In Boots.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Galifianakis, who had his big break with The Hangover this summer, will help tell the story of the events leading up to the feline assassin's first meeting with Shrek and friends, which took place in Shrek 2. Antonio Banderas, who voiced Puss In Boots in Shrek 2 and Shrek The Third, will reprise the role in the new film, and will be joined by his Desperado co-star Salma Hayek. Tom Wheeler is writing the screenplay for the prequel after Chris Miller, who co-directed and co-wrote Shrek The Third, wrote an earlier draft. Miller will now be directing the DreamWorks Animation movie.
The film is scheduled for a November 4, 2011 release.

So-hot-right-now comedy star Zack Galifianakis continues to stack films like cordwood, with the news that he's in negotiations to join the cast of Puss In Boots, as unlucky egg Humpty Dumpty.Yes, in a perfect piece of casting the slightly round and weirdly fragile (at least in his Funny or Die series) Galifianakis will play the cracked character who all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't reassemble. Whether he'll be a good egg or a bad egg remains to be seen, with the script by Tom Wheeler and Chris Miller still under wraps. All we do know is that Antonio Banderas is returning as Puss, with Salma Hayek voicing his love interest in a reunion that will probably see fewer bullets flying than in Desperado but hopefully the same levels of chemistry.Puss In Boots is out on November 4, 2011 in the Us; December 16 2011 here in the UK. »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.
So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…
When is it? – 9th April.
Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico
Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

Cirque de Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is unearthed this week. John C Reilly stars as a vampire who performs at the Cirque Du Freak. He meets a young boy, and agrees to take him on as an apprentice.
The screenplay is written by Brian Helgeland. I recognised the name, so i looked up his filmography. It turns out he has written the screenplay’s of many films, including La Confidential, Conspiracy Theory and Payback, having also directed the latter. And along with the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix), he has a screenplay credit for a personal favourite of mine. So join me as i look back at Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas, as they play Assassins.
I knew nothing of Assassins myself when it was released in 1995. It was only a couple of years later that i spotted it on video, intrigued by this movie i’d never heard of. »

Robert Rodriguez’s long-gestating Predator sequel that’s finally underway at his Troublemaker Studios is finally getting some details fleshed out, largely due to a script review by LatinoReview.com.
The sequel, entitled Predators (which seems to be a blatant nod of the head to James Cameron’s one-upping of Alien) not only has a solidified cast member — Danny Trejo of From Dusk Till Dawn and Heat fame playing “Cuchillo” — but the script has been reviewed and said to be “awesome … a bloody, hard-r, violent script reminiscent of the original.”
For a spoiler-filled review of the script, head over to our source and watch their video. Predators will begin shooting in Hawaii soon under the direction of Vacancy director Nimrod Antal, from a script by Robert Rodriguez, Michael Finch, and Alex Litvak. This script has been underway since the Desperado days, so let’s see if Predator finally has a worthy sequel on its hands. »

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has acquired most international distribution rights for Robert Rodriguez's MacHete>, unfortunately that doesn't do much for us here in the States. Machete is the feature-length version of the trailer that originally appeared in Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse. The pic is in production in Austin, Texas, with a cast that includes Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin, Michelle Rodriguez and Rose McGowan. Its story centers on a former Mexican police officer who turns the tables on the masterminds who double-crossed him. Rodriguez, who wrote the screenplay, co-directs with Ethan Maniquis. Sony worked with Rodriguez on the so-called Mexico Trilogy -- El Mariachi, Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. »

There have been a lot of rumors flying around about the upcoming Guillermo del Toro directed, Peter Jackson produced, two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic book, The Hobbit. Everything from casting rumors - Daniel Radcliffe, David Tennant or James McAvoy to play Bilbo? - to word of a third, “bridge” movie being made the would link the two Hobbit films to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Just as quick as these rumors surface, del Toro himself has been there to dispel them. And that has happened again recently when rumors surfaced that The Hobbit would be in 3D. By way of TheOneRing.net’s forum, del Toro himself has let fans know just what is true and what isn’t, including confirming who will be the Director of Photography for The Hobbit:
“As a co-writer and director of this film (who works with the design teams, costume teams, »

Director Robert Rodriguez is capable of making good movies for adults and good movies aimed at children. He showed this in the past with films like Desperado and Spy Kids. With his latest effort he satisfies neither children nor adults and that means failure at the box office. Shorts is a movie aimed at kids that will force tedium on the adults who accompany them. In short it is not short enough! Shorts is a story about a magic rock that appears in a neighborhood and grants wishes. Of course kids are the ones who find it and they use it to try to make the neighborhood a better and safer place. It is when it gets into the hands of adults that real problems arise. The central focus of the film is on Toe Thompson (Jimmy Bennett). He lives with his... »

Moviemaker Robert Rodriguez had to shoot a short film with Salma Hayek before he could convince studio bosses to hire the Mexican actress for Desperado - because they weren't sure her English was good enough for Hollywood.
The film gave the sexy star her big break and became her first English-language movie - and she had Rodriguez to thank for going out of his way to land her the part as Antonio Banderas' sidekick.
The director tells Latina magazine, "I was a big fan from the beginning. I gave her her first English major film role in Desperado. But before I could, I had to shoot a cable movie with her, called Roadracers, so I could show the studios that she could act in English and be great.
"I had to stick to my guns by saying, 'We have to hire a Latino, not just put brown face on someone.'" »

Finally Robert Rodriguez has spoken a bit more in-depth about the upcoming reboot/prequel Predators, which will be directed by Nimrod (Vacancy) Anatal. Get ready to dig on the skinny thus far ...
Rodriquez recently sat down with the La Times to dish what dirt there is at this time!
"It's the story from that script I had written way back then," Rodriguez told the La Times. "They had hired me to write a ‘Predator’ story while I was waiting to do ‘Desperado’ back in 1994. It was crazy, this thing I came up with. So then fast-forward to now and, like, six months ago, they found the script and called me up. ‘Hey, we want to redo this franchise and we found your old script. This is where we should have gone with the series! We want to move forward.' And that's what we're doing.” He also stated, "It was this crazy, »

From out of the constantly whirling maelstrom that is Robert Rodriguez' production roster, suddenly comes Machete, the long-promised movie extrapolated from his fake Grindhouse trailer, starring Danny Trejo. In an interview with Gordon and The Whale, Trejo states that he's just had the nod from Rodriguez that shooting starts in five weeks, which actually chimes with plans that Rodriguez outlined in March (although what with Predators, Sin City 2, The Jetsons, Nervewrackers, and Red Sonja also currently stacking up at chez Rodriguez, those claims were easily overlooked and/or dismissed.)No details on casting, or indeed anything at all yet, so it's unclear whether the film will follow the trailer's plot of political assassinations, framings and double-crosses. Can we expect to see Cheech Marin as a gun-toting priest ("God has mercy. I don't.")? We certainly hope so. But some good old fashioned gratuitous violence and nudity are practically guaranteed. »

If Robert Rodriguez wasn’t a busy enough man, he goes and adds yet another project onto his to-do list. He has his first ever fully fledged sci-fi movie coming out next year called Nerverackers, his full-length version of the Machete fake trailer from Grindhouse currently in development, he’s heavily involved with the Predator sequel/reboot (retitled Predators) which has a tentative release for next year, and of course there’s the long awaited sequel to Sin City (which Rodriguez says he’s already talked with some of the key players about).
So what has Rodriguez added to his already overflowing plate? A live-action Jetsons movie.
Rodriguez’ 21st century live-action Jetsons movie, an update of the classic ’60s and ’80s cartoon, has apparently been in development for some time. Rodriguez even mentioned it himself as upcoming when news first broke of the Predator reboot that he’ll be helping to produce. »

What, Avp wasn't enough a reboot? It's true, despite both Alien vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, a second reboot is underway, this time with director Robert Rodriguez serving as producer for the movie.
AICN reached out to Rodriguez, who explained how Predators came into being:
Way back before I did Desperado, I had taken a writing assignment for a sequel to Predator. With a nod toward [James] Cameron's Aliens I decided to call it Predators. I set it on a jungle-like Predator planet. Fast forward 15 years to when I got a call from Alex Young over at Fox, who had been digging around and found my original treatment. So the next stage is finding a writer and director to come in and work with us to bring it to life. Whether or not it will ultimately be based on the treatment or not is still unknown at this time. »

[Update: It seems that Rodriguez will be Producing the movie but not Directing it - and there's a tentative release date: July 7, 2010]
Remember back about two months ago when we said Predator-remake was in the works and quite possibly the worst idea ever? Today, we retract those statements… Well, maybe not entirely, but at least a little.
Why? Because Robert Rodriguez is taking the reigns not only as a producer, but also as director!
The re-titled Predators has now been confirmed with Rodriguez in the director’s chair.
Although the project is still with 20th Century Fox, things are looking a little better with the Desperado-director in the seat.
Via IESB.net comes word that a news conference was held at Troublemaker Studios (Rodriguez’s independent filmhouse) for the signing of a long-awaited reform of Texas film incentive program-hb 873. The “one-man-film-crew” had a chance to address the members of the press and clued them in to his upcoming film projects:

The filmography of one Robert Rodriguez is all over the map for the most part. The common notion is that his most popular work as a director has come from Sin City and Desperado. And while those films have been very successful, his greatest success was with the Spy Kids trilogy -- each film grossing over $85 million dollars a piece. So it makes sense that Warner Bros. jumped all over the chance to finance Rodriguez's next family adventure, Shorts. It tells the story of a young boy (Jimmy Bennett) who discovers a colorful rock that allows him to simply make a wish and have it come true. So he uses this power to get some friends. Little does he know that these friends come in the form of miniature alien-like dudes who help him fight back against his schoolyard bully -- played by Jolie Vanier, who has a very Christina Ricci as Wednesday Adams look to her »

Variety reports that Robert Rodriguez is set to reteam with Dimension for his next film, the futuristic thriller "Nerverackers." The multihyphenate will write and direct the pic, which already has a release date of April 16, 2010.
Set in 2085, the story centers on a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society.
Most of Rodriguez's filmography has borne the Dimension label, including "Sin City," the "Planet Terror" half of "Grindhouse" and the "Spy Kids" franchise, which grossed $310 million domestically. Dimension topper and Weinstein Co. co-chief Bob Weinstein noted his ties with Rodriguez date back to the 1996 release of "From Dusk Till Dawn."

Along with the much anticipated sequel to Sin City that’s currently in pre-production, writer/director Robert Rodriguez has somehow found space in his schedule for a futuristic sci-fi thriller called Nerverackers.
He will be working with long time collaborators Dimension, who’s past joint efforts include Planet Terror, Sin City and the Spy Kids franchise.
To say this genre is out of left field for the director is an understatement indeed, but it’s even more surprising to read just what he’s aiming for as far as plot goes:
Set in 2085, the story centers on a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society.
Rodriguez’s resume has consisted of mainly horror (From Dusk Till Dawn, Planet Terror, The Faculty) and action films (El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon A Time In Mexico). The »
