Beauty Is Definitely Only Skin Deep.
Rito22 November 1998
Courtney Thorne-Smith stars as a small town beauty queen that has a few problems of the mental kind. She has an obsession for a man who already has a longtime girlfriend. She will stop at nothing to get him and keep him forever.

`Fatal Attraction' in a Farm
claudio_carvalho18 February 2004
Kevin Reese (Kyle Secor) is a simple and good man in love with Beth (Tracey Gold). He fights to pay the debts left by his father and recover the family's farm from the bank. One day, he helps Cheryl (Courtney Thorne-Smith), a beautiful and deranged girl elected the `princess of the lactic'. Cheryl develops an obsessive passion for Kevin, and tries everything to be with him, transforming Kevin and Beth's lives in `hell on earth'. In the introduction of this film, the viewer is informed that this story is based on a true fact. Courtney Thorne-Smith is really gorgeous and has a great performance, but the story is very common and does not bring any surprise. My vote is six.

Courtney Thorne-Smith at her beautiful and evil best.
Brian-2724 May 2001
I watched this movie when it first aired in the fall of 1995 on NBC and since I have viewed it again many times on Lifetime or either the Lifetime Movie Network. Courtney Thorne-Smith is at her best probably the strongest performance of her career and certainly at her sexy best. Courtney showed no flaws at all as an obsessed beauty queen from the midwest who will stop at nothing until she wins the man of her dreams (Kyle Secor) even if it means destroying his true love (Tracey Gold) and finally the obsession becomes murder as one by one it is just her and Kyle. Not only is Courtney at her evil best in this movie but her beauty shows all. That hot scene with Courtney in a reddish maroon bra and panties with Kyle Secor on the bed was great! Now talk about Courtney having hanes her way! Watch this sometime on Lifetime or Lifetime Movie Network it airs often you will enjoy!

Courtney Thorne-Smith is intoxicating -- and SCARY (!) in this very well-made, absorbing tale.

Courtney makes this above-average TV drama truly riveting with an alarmingly convincing portrayal of a beautiful psychopath. Wow! Thanks to you, Courtney, I may never date a beautiful woman again.

Watch it for Kyle Secor-
MarieGabrielle1 June 2006
He was in "Homicide Life on the Street" around this time as well. Yes, this movie does represent cheesy, made-for TV drama- but that's the fun of it!.

Tracey Gold does okay as the favored fiancée, who is murdered by someone in a small mid-western town- the title "Midwest Obsession" is better than the generic "Beauty's Revenge"- interesting that this film was marketed in other countries with a title that seemed to remind us of "Fatal Attraction".

Courteney Thorne-Smith is the "Dairy Princess" so at least whoever wrote the screenplay has a sense of humor. While this was based on a true murder, I find it hard to believe that kind of contest exists, and the winner drives a zebra-upholstered pink convertible. The scenes at the end, in the "Airstream" RV that Smith lives in are pretty amusing, albeit unintentional.

This movie proves 2 things 1) My drama teacher said try to find something good in every piece of art or trash-you might learn something and 2) Really good actors can elevate the role to something better. In this case, Secor. All in all, not the worst film ever made. And at least you aren't paying $10.00 to see it in the theatre.

Silly Movie, Bad Acting & Dumb Dialogue
akemeyer12 April 2001
This film is representative of the whole cheesy TV-Movie Genre. Mad beauty queen chases the most clueless farmer in 3 counties. Only reason to see this movie is to see the stellar acting of Kyle Secor as Kevin Reece (clue-less farmer). The chemistry between the two lovebirds, Kevin and fiance, Beth (played by Tracy Gold) was just not there at all but off the charts between the Dairy Queen (Courtney Thorne-Smith) and Kevin. This movie boils down to one thing and one thing only - Bad girl tries to steal good girls boyfriend by hook, crook, tractor-death and strangulation. The entire thing was predictable and trite, give me "Homicide:Life on the Street" any day over dreck like this.

felt like a 3 hour movie

Painfully slow. I decided to watch it since Courtney and Tracey star in it, but their acting surprisingly sucked, and was over the top. It's interesting for the fact it's based on a true story though!

Beware the Green-Eyed Monster
lavatch18 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"Midwest Obsession" (a.k.a., "Beauty's Revenge") is a slow-burner that aspires to be a tale of jealousy and murder. Shakespeare encapsulated the theme perfectly in unforgettable image in "Othello" of the "green-eyed monster." Unfortunately, the film is the tale of extremely deranged and unpleasant psychopath.

Cheryl Ann Davis was a star athlete in high school. Now, she has parlayed her good looks into becoming Cloverdale's "Dairy Princess" and drives around town in a pink convertible. She never recovered from the death of her mother when she was 12, and her stoic, grief-ridden father never has a good word to say about her. That is the backdrop for Cheryl's fixation on dairy farmer Kevin Reese.

The only problem is that Kevin has no inclination to give Cheryl the time of day. He is in love with Beth McKinnis, a dynamic, intelligent, ambitious woman who is the polar opposite of Cheryl.

The main problems with the film were the sluggish pacing and the unpleasant character of Cheryl. It was also incomprehensible that both Kevin and Beth did not recognize Cheryl's pathology sooner and put an end to any contact with her. That would include Kevin not allowing Cheryl to camp out on his property in her trailer. It also would include Beth not allowing Cheryl to sit in her car with her.

The film was based on a true story, and, undoubtedly, the filmmakers attempted to be accurate in recounting the tragedy. But the flimsy character developments, slow pacing, and sordid details of the tawdry relationships made viewing the film an especially uncomfortable experience.

The Dairy Queen Will Go Straight To Your Head!
darryl-jason15 May 2015
I could watch these sort of movies all day. It's a real shame TV Movies (TVM) don't get the credit they deserve because they do tell a great story in an amazing way. It's a typical afternoon daytime movie and if you ever have a day to yourself, then these are the movies you want to sit down and watch.

Tracey Gold at her best as always and the stunning Courtney Thorne-Smith sure does play a good malicious Dairy Queen Princess. She plays the role extremely well. The lengths she goes to to get the man she wants - and to think there are actually people out there that can go to these extreme lengths. Another true story told to add to my DVD collection. Again, superb acting from the cast. If you're a Tracey Gold fan or a Thorne-Smith fan, this one is definitely one for you. For the women out there, if you have a best friend that's jealous of your relationship, then here's some advice - keep your boyfriend away from the dairy cream! It might just go straight to his head.

Based on a true story
cdb8ofspades26 April 2006
I will have to check my "archives" at home, but I am sure I have a magazine with an article about this murder and situation. I don't remember the names of the people involved, as the movie may have changed them, but I believe it may have happened in Northern Wisconsin in the 1980's. The magazine had a picture of the obsessed female, a brunette, on its cover, and other pictures inside of the young man and deceased female's family. The three belonged to Future Farmers of America or a similar club, if I remember correctly.

Unfortunately, I only saw the last 15 minutes of this movie and cannot comment on the quality of it, yet with Tracey Gold, Kyle Secor, and Courtney Thorne-Smith as the leads, I am sure it is worth watching.

If you've seen one lifetime movie...
jes8429045 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
...you've seen em all.

And this is no different.

Just came to say that the whole turning point of the movie supposedly comes when Kevin finds Cheryl's unique cow earring in the field where he found his friend Larry dead (of what, they never do say lol) earlier in the movie; leaving him to conclude that she must be responsible for Larry's death and of course why not, Beth's death as well.

However. The scene immediately following the one wherein Kevin finds Larry dead in said field, Cheryl is shown wearing BOTH of her signature cow earrings. So either we're supposed to assume she has multiple pairs of these "one of a kind" earrings or they totally botched their ending by this weak, easily avoidable continuity error.

Entertaining TV FILM!
whpratt122 March 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Greatly enjoyed this film about a simple young man who lived on a farm and took care of COWS. This was the role that Kyle Secor(Kevin Reese) "Beat",2000, had to play in this drama and was chased by the sexy, hot looking Courtney Thorne Smith(Cheryl),"The Lovemaster",'97, who also loved cows, Kyles farm land and his BODY and soul and was willing to do anything in the world for him. This picture could very well have ended with the murderer getting away with the crimes, but it seems the producer ran out of time and gave this film a very disappointing ENDING! Cheryl was very very evil in this picture and her character in this film over powered all the other actors. I would have totally enjoyed this film if the story had a different ending with the murderer going to jail!

Good cast in a farm country fatal Attraction
phd_travel28 October 2019
One thing that is hard to accept is that someone as pretty as Courtney Thorne Smith would throw themselves after a man like that. Other than that it's quite a watchable movie. A beauty queen Miss Dairy something sets her sights on a farmer. But he has a Girlfriend. Even though she briefly steals him away he goes back to his old girlfriend. So the pretty wacko gets homicidal.

Courtney is great over the top wacko. Worth a watch.

One of the worst I've seen!
guil1230 October 2001
Warning: Spoilers
It was very hard to sit through this insipid made for TV movie. And to watch such bad performances by notably the three leads [Courtney Thorne-Smith, not really that beautiful, Kyle Secor, a dumb farmboy who hasn't a clue, and Tracey Gold, another out of space character]. It is hard to believe that the innocent couldn't see through the oh so obvious villany of Smith with her basic black ensemble and butch attitude that something evil this way lurks. I mean, get real, how dumb can you be? For example, Kyle, knowing Smith's demonic personality and having just wrestled with her and a huge kitchen knife, to turn his back on her and walk away, was about the stupidist move ever. It's these kind of obvious moments that drove this viewer crazy. Another moment in the barn when the butch Smith, again in basic black, threatens Gold with a pitchfork, and Gold stands there oblivious of the threats screaming in her face. Please! The ending failed to give this viewer any satisfaction in the get even with Smith for her deeds. It just fades away leaving her screaming in the trailer. Come on. Don't we deserve something better than that? I can see that possibly Secor has some acting ability, but certainly, the rest need to go back to the drawing board. Bad performances, really bad script and so-so direction. Oh, yes, the cows did good! They at least hit their marks.

Lifetime movies are dark and dull
ThunderKing623 April 2022
This movie is like all other lifetime films. Yup some crazy female does crazy stuff then ends up killing someone.

All the films are the same. Lifetime films has no variety. Sometimes I just want a relaxtaining movie nope. I gotta ensure another dark dull movie.

Whether these movies are based on a true story is irrelevant. If they are then audiences have to realize that they are watching the same old movies. That be said that means all of your lives are all the same. You think you are different but in the end you are all the same. Realize it.

Anyways...

This movie was not creative or good. Its a waste of time.

poor Kyle Secor...
matchbox10 September 2000
I was watching TV, wishing in vain for Homicide: Life on the Street to be on. Instead, I stumbled upon this movie and found Homicide's Kyle Secor in this LAME TV-movie-of-the-week-type flick about a female stalker. I was glad to watch Kyle because he's great in whatever he does, but I was so sad that he was stuck in such a STUPID "movie." I knew what everyone's next moves were going to be and I really couldn't stand it. It's hard to like anyone here (w/ the exception of Kyle). He deserves a new TV show and/or a few independent movie projects. What a great actor, but what a trite movie. If you want to see some blistering acting, watch reruns of H:LOTS.
