Kate Mulgrew wants Captain Janeway in next Star Trek movie

Who and what will feature in the next Star Trek movie?
That seems to be a popular topic for debate as director Jj Abrams and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman explore story possibilities amid huge pressure to repeat the success of the first film.
And Kate Mulgrew, who played Captain Kathryn Janeway in TV series Star Trek: Voyager, is keen on a slice of the intergalactic action once again.
Janeway also appeared as a Starfleet Vice Admiral in 2002's Star Trek Nemesis movie.
Genevieve Bujold was originally cast in the role for the TV series but quit after the second day of filming on the first episode.
Mulgrew, 54, who had suggested the character's first name, says she'd be very interested in appearing in the new Star Trek franchise if asked by Jj Abrams.

Star Trek Voyager fans, prepare to have your heart rates accelerated to warp speed. Kate Mulgrew, the actress who portrayed the wonderful, dynamic, possibly lesbionic Captain Kathryn Janeway, has expressed an interest in appearing in a new Star Trek film. The Geek Files blog has the scoop:
Asked by Sci Fi Now if she'd consider a role in the new films, she said: "I would, I'd love to return to Janeway. I'd love to do her in a movie. I think he'd be wise to do it, don't you? He should get me and Picard in there. It's a brilliant idea.”
The latest Star Trek film covered its tracks in re-launching the “original” series with Kirk, Spock and the gang — but it also allowed for the possibility for other characters in the universe to appear. With a touch of creative sci-fi imagining, Picard and Janeway could totally make cameos.

As Darkness Falls Premiering on Time Warner Cable

We've been waiting for an update on As Darkness Falls, a hybrid television/radio horror anthology series, for some time now, and we recently learned that it will be making its debut on Time Warner Cable in Southern California on Wednesday, November 11th, at 11:30 pm Pst.
From the press release:
"As Darkness Falls… is a program very different from the usual fare on television these days with the chills coming from the performances and writing rather than from tricky special effects work. It is hosted by actor Tucker Smallwood, a well-known character actor instantly recognizable to science fiction/fantasy horror fans for his roles on such series as ‘Space: Above and Beyond’, ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ and ‘The X-Files’.

She hasn’t even seen the new Star Trek film yet, but Kate Mulgrew, who played Captain Kathryn Janeway in the Star Trek: Voyager TV series, already wants in on the rebooted franchise.
Mulgrew's Captain Janeway also had a cameo in the 2002 movie Star Trek: Nemesis. When asked if she would consider a role in the rebooted Trek film series by J.J. Abrams, she responded, "I would, I'd love to return to Janeway. I'd love to do her in a movie."
Writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are currently developing a storyline for the Trek sequel, and in a separate interview, Abrams said any worry about bringing back established characters was negated by the first film’s success. In this summer’s Star Trek, Leonard Nimoy, who originated the Spock role, played an older, time-traveling version of himself.

Kate Mulgrew, best known for her role as Captain Janeway on "Star Trek Voyager," is also a veteran voice actor, providing work on a number of cartoons and video games. Her latest gig places her in the role of Flemeth, a powerful witch in the universe of "Dragon Age: Origins." I spoke with her over the phone a little while ago, and with the game dropping tomorrow I thought now would be a perfect time to share some of her thoughts on the role.
I've done a lot of interviews with celebrity voice actors, and it's rare that they're super committed to the role they're playing. The opening credits of the series premiere of Stargate Universe show the vast expanse of space as a ship jumps out of Ftl and begins to glide closer to our screens. An orchestra of sounds play in the background with an almost menacing and forboding undertone. It doesn't take long before it's crystal clear that the show you are about to watch bears little resemblance to its predecessors. We're taken inside the ship where we see corridor after corridor coming to life, in much the same manner as that of the series premiere of Stargate Atlantis. Everybody's asking the question: "Who's going to serve as the villain or villains in the sequel to last summer's Star Trek?" Now that we're in an alternate Trek timeline, writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are free to tell stories that incorporate familiar faces but combine them in new and interesting ways.
Which got us thinking: who's likely to make the short list, and what sort of possible stories/combinations might we see? Will the filmmakers choose to go the route of borrowing once more from canon...or will they elect to craft an entirely new story with entirely new antagonists?
Since new antagonists are impossible to predict, we decided to look to the original canon and have offered a list of possible villains from which Orci and Kurtzman could choose. We've divided the categories up into four groups:

That’s because these two great writers are responsible for getting the show on the air, have mapped out where the show is headed, and what mysteries are going to be revealed along the way. I’d never seen an episode of any “Stargate” show before last week. The only “Stargate” I’d ever seen was the feature film and I liked it but didn’t love it. While I understood how a weekly show featuring the Stargate technology could work, I never felt the need to tune in. But with a friend of mine as one of the leads on the newest “Stargate” show, “Stargate Universe”, I knew I’d be checking it out. Thankfully, I’m happy to report after watching the first three hours, the show was a lot better than I expected and I’ve already added it to my DVR’s season pass. But the best part of the show is I don’t have to lie to my friend about his performance or that I think the show is cool.

I am not a big fan of the various Stargate TV shows. I liked the movie – by which I mean the Kurt Russel/James Spader one – but never really dug the television versions. I can’t explain why, and it is not a vehement hatred so don’t flame me, I was just never ‘hooked.’ The only reason this is significant now is because of how much I absolutely loved Stargate Universe.
I’m going to guess that Stargate Universe is going to appeal to the legions of Stargate fans out there, but before I even watched the pilot my condition for liking the show was that it had to appeal to someone who was completely unaware of the Stargate Universe as defined by SG1, Atlantis, and whatever constituent material that belongs to those worlds. A new NBC series is getting some help from a sci-fi veteran. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Star Trek: Voyager star Kate Mulgrew has joined the cast of NBC's Mercy.
Mulgrew will portray Jeannie Flannigan, the mother of the series lead Veronica (Taylor Schilling). The series revolves around the lives of several nurses at Mercy Hospital, but with a much more serious approach than Grey's Anatomy.
Mercy was originally slated for a midseason debut, but was pushed to the fall after Parenthood was delayed after actress Maura Tierney's illness.

The Portal Awards, originally known as the Genre Awards, have been handed out almost every year since 1999.
