We lost count of exactly how many sequels there were to the werewolf classic The Howling. The troubled series has seen marsupials, freakshows, and even big-breasted sibling werewolves. Just when you thought it was over, the franchise is reborn!
At this year's Afm (you know, the little event that has been dominating our headlines as of late) Moonstone Entertainment announced that writer/director Joe Nimziki is attached to The Howling Reborn. Nimziki's only film credit to date that we've been able to dig up is a 1997 episode of the re-imagined "The Outer Limits" television series.
Check out Shock Till You Drop for a look at the very familiar sales art, and relive the good old days with the trailer for the Joe Dante classic below!

While perusing the halls at Afm this week, ShockTillYouDrop came across a rather interesting new poster for a sequel that we've never heard of until today. It's called The Howling Reborn and is, supposedly, a sequel or remake or reboot of The Howling, the classic werewolf movie from 1981 that was directed by Joe Dante. That original film spawned some six sequels and created the Howling legacy. The last one, titled Howling: New Moon Rising, arrived on DVD in 1995. This is the first time we've heard of this, though that poster looks quite a bit like the original poster. Is this some straight-to-dvd rip off or something more? The poster says that Joe Nimziki, a first-time director with only one credit on "The Outer Limits", is writing and directing The Howling Reborn. The film was being sold at Afm by Moonstone Entertainment, a production/distribution company with a filmography that includes »

The Howling legacy lives on in a new project being flaunted at the American Film Market by Moonstone Entertainment. The below sales poster was on display with writer-director Joe Nimziki attached. His credits to date include one thing and one thing only, a 1997 episode of the rebooted The Outer Limits . At what stage in development the film is in is unknown. Original Howling director Joe Dante has said in the past that he's been courted for a remake in the past and there are interested parties, but nothing has come to fruition. Moonstone Entertainment is also repping the Stephen King adaptation From a Buick 8 . »

'Tis the season for scary movies, so it's fitting that Thomas Jane's stylish, noir-fueled horror film "Dark Country" arrives on shelves this week. In his directorial debut, the "Punisher" actor not only makes his first bow behind the camera, but he also stars alongside Lauren German ("Hostel: Part II") and Ron Perlman ("Hellboy")—two actors not entirely unfamiliar with fright-friendly cinema.
Combining surreal, David Lynch-style visuals with a pulpy horror tale that would seem at home in old issues of "Tales From The Crypt" or "Creepy," Jane says comic books weren't far from his mind when he stepped behind the camera.
"I’ve been reading comic books since I was eight years old, and in comics, anything’s possible," Jane told MTV News. "They come up with angles that you could never shoot in life, and they really have to work hard to make that two-dimensional space feel three-dimensional, »

Chicago – I am an unabashed junkie of anthology horror shows and will gladly debate with you why “The Twilight Zone” is the best show of all time before we get to discussing “The Outer Limits,” “Amazing Stories,” and “Tales From the Crypt.” Naturally, I was a big fan of Showtime’s “Masters of Horror” and was intrigued when a lot of that series’ major players jumped to NBC for “Fear Itself”. The show was a ratings failure and got very little buzz and the first season DVD makes it clear why. Even for an anthology show fan, this is a tough sell.
DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0 “Fear Itself” features thirteen episodes that aired on NBC during the summer of 2008. Like “Masters of Horror” (both shows were produced by the legendary Mick Garris), each episode was directed by a different horror writer and director. And like “Moh” the quality jumps wildly from episode »

Canadian actor Matt Frewer is probably best known for portraying that icon of 1980s computer animation and music videos, Max Headroom. Headroom's jerks and stutters are but a small sample of this talented and versatile actor's work, though.
On the big screen Frewer's credits go back to Franc Roddam's The Lords of Discipline (1983) and include such diverse material as Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Frankie and Alice (with Halle Barry), Uwe Boll's Darfur and two films for director Zack Snyder: Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen.
Frewer has also portrayed Sherlock Holmes in several television movies and appeared in a long list of TV series. He was a regular on Doctor, Doctor, CBC’s Intelligence and Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal (for which he also wrote a script). He has lent his distinctive voice to characters in animated adventures of The Incredible Hulk, »

If you are a fan of Syfy's Battlestar Galactica, you probably know that some scenes of the series were filmed in and around the extensive forests of western British Columbia. What you may not realise, however, is that two of the show's stars - Tricia Helfer (Number Six) and Tahmoh Penikett ('Helo') - have lent their talents to a new indie docu-drama that is intended to raise awareness of issues associated with cutting down some of these forests.
The film, called The Green Chain, was written, directed and co-produced by Vancouver-born Mark Leiren-Young. His previous credits include scripts for episodes of the series The Collector, Blood Ties and Psi Factor. He has also written a book, 'Never Shoot a Stampede Queen', articles for 'Time Magazine', 'Maclean's' and 'The Utne Reader', and stage plays.
True to his roots, Leiren-Young focuses The Green Chain on the debate in British Columbia, but it »

Pen Densham has signed on to direct Big Bill, a feature about the self-destructive tennis legend Bill Tilden. Gil Dennis (Walk the Line) wrote the script, based on the Frank Deford book Big Bill: The Triumphs and the Tragedy. In the 1920s, Tilden won six straight U.S. Open singles titles, a feat that Roger Federer will try to surpass this month. Tilden's accomplishments -- including stints as a novelist, playwright and contract bridge champion -- were marred by his imprisonment twice for sexual misbehavior with teenage boys. He died broke. Tilden was the first American to win Wimbledon, and he led the U.S. Davis Cup team to six straight titles. He was also meticulous about obeying the rules on court -- if he got an undeserved call, he would hit the next ball out to even things up -- and refused to soft sell his indiscretions. Densham hasn't »

ABC has announced the premiere date for their re-imagining of the 1980’s sci-fi series called V.
The airdate we can now all start looking forward to is Tuesday, November 3rd at 8:00 p.m., Et/Pt.
Below is the press release description of ABC’s outline of the show:
V is a re-imagining of the 1980s miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race. Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V’s) promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V’s build a following that may actually hide a more malevolent agenda, one that twists a very deep component of human nature — devotion.
While the world quickly becomes fascinated with the V’s and their link to wonders just beyond the reach of human understanding, FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) discovers »

Chicago – “The Hunger” is one of the more unusual entries in the history of the TV anthology series, a personal favorite sub-genre of this writer raised on “The Twilight Zone,” “The Outer Limits,” “Tales From the Crypt,” and “Amazing Stories”. It has amazing star power, a loose relation to a great ’80s horror movie, and enough thrills to entertain, but has been largely forgotten by TV history.
DVD Rating: 3.0/5.0 “The Hunger” aired in syndicated form from 1997-2000. It is not directly based on the film of the same name but does feature some loose relations - horror theme, David Bowie hosted season two, and the Scott brothers (Ridley and Tony, who directed the film “The Hunger”) produced.
The Hunger: The Complete First Season was released on DVD on June 16th, 2009.

The first season of the show was hosted by Terence Stamp and, while it has some significant storytelling flaws, »

Robert Cooper and Brad Wright, co-creators and executive producers of the three television series that make up the Stargate franchise, are to be rewarded by the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Foundation of British Columbia for their contributions to that Canadian province's film industry. The pair are to receive one of the Foundation's 2009 Leo Awards for Outstanding Achievement.
"Robert and Brad's achievements with the Stargate franchises have brought international attention and acclaim to BC film and television and, in the process, made them an institution on the West Coast," said Leo Awards President Walter Daroshin.
Wright and Cooper were show-runners on Stargate Sg-1 and Stargate Atlantis. They are currently at work on the upcoming Sgu: Stargate Universe. All three series are shot in and around Vancouver in British Columbia.
Stargate Sg-1 was a spinoff from the 1994 theatrical science fiction film Stargate, directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Kurt Russell and James Spader. »

The independent horror film Plague Town, which Fango’s Michael Gingold called “a nightmare captured on film,” will make its Midwest premiere at the fast-approaching Chicago edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held March 6-8 at the Wyndham Chicago O’Hare Hotel (6810 North Mannheim Road, Rosemont, Il). The screening will be introduced by writer/director David Gregory.

Gregory (pictured with actress Kate Aspinwall and victim) makes his feature debut with the movie, having previously helmed nearly 100 genre documentaries and DVD features, including Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth, Portrait: The Making of Henry, Inside Manhunter, Tom Savini: The Early Years, The Godfathers of Mondo and many more.

Disclaimer: This article may contain sarcasm, irony and “LOLs”; proceed with caution.
It’s time once again for horror at the Oscars. Sunday’s festivities were filled with folks who have worked in the genre and per usual, I feel if it’s a win for Danny Boyle, it is a win for rage-zombie fans everywhere. Seems like a lot of folks this year are veterans of Exorcist: The Beginning, Amityville: A New Generation and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Of course, the most important genre win would be Greg Cannom, a staple of 80’s horror effects; he worked on such films as Fright Night Part 2, The Lost Boys and The Howling.
Now some movies on this list might be “kinda horror.” These thrillers or genre-friendly frameworks are on the ghoulish cusp and are marked with an asterisk. Some flicks on the list are there because, what the fuck, »

Veteran X Files producer/director R.W. Goodwin (pictured), whose new creature-feature comedy Alien Trespass opens this spring from Roadside Attractions, has joined the lineup of the next Chicago edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held March 6-8 at the Wyndham Chicago O’Hare Hotel (6810 North Mannheim Road, Rosemont, Il). Goodwin produced over 70 episodes of The X Files, and directed nine of them.
Alien Tresspass, which stars Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack, Autopsy’s Robert Patrick and The Wonder Years’ Dan Lauria, concerns an Earthly encounter with extraterrestrials both good and bad. Not a spoof or parody, but pretty much a straight film that could have played on the same bill as It Came From Outer Space, Alien Trespass has won raves on the festival circuit. You can find out more here and see a couple of exclusive pics here. Accompanying Goodwin will be his wife Sheila Larkin, »
