Macaulay Culkin Won't Make Up With Dad

16 November 2000 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

After years of estrangement Macaulay Culkin's (photos) father and former manager Kit Culkin is attempting to mend the rift with his son. After the opening night of the child star's London stage debut "Madame Melville", Kit sent him a congratulatory telegram. Macaulay, now 20, reveals, "It said, 'All the luck and a long and successful run. You will, as always, be wonderful. Dad, '" Adds Macaulay, "I thought it was very funny that it's been about four years and he made contact with me just because I'm doing something, because I'm getting back to work, and that says a lot about a person." Kit reportedly played sick psychological games with his son when films like Home Alone (1990) made him one of the world's biggest actors, and made the actor live well below his means. Macaulay, who once starred in a film called Getting Even with Dad (1994), has no interest in a reconciliation with this father and says, "I don't think he's willing to say some of the things he should say. He did some things that were wrong and he doesn't know that." »

The British online pop news site Ananova reported today (Thursday) that the 20-year-old Culkin received three curtain calls following his appearance in Madame Melville, playing a teenager who is seduced by his teacher. Director Michael Winner, who attended the premiere, told Ananova: "He was excellent. He had great charm, the audience liked him, and he seemed to like the audience." »

Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin, who turns 20 this month, is hoping to make a comeback by appearing on the London stage in a play, Madame Melville, due to open in October, the London Daily Express reported today (Wednesday), citing an unnamed production insider. "He auditioned last week and amazed everybody with his performance, " the source was quoted as saying. "He said he really wants the part and has convinced everyone that he should have it." The play, by Richard Nelson, concerns a 16-year-old who becomes the object of desire of his thirtyish French teacher, who will likely be played by the French film actress Irene Jacob, the newspaper said. Culkin has not appeared in a movie since 1994's Getting Even with Dad. »
