Universal Studios Home Entertainment has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming “Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball,” a prequel to Joe Carnahan’s kinetic hitman flick.
“Smokin’ Aces 2″ synopsis: Federal agents once again match wits with a cadre of creative killers in the high-octane feature-length film Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball. Walter Weed (Tom Berenger) is an unassuming desk jockey at the FBI when the Bureau uncovers a plot to assassinate him. A team of degenerate, psychotic assassins dispatched by mystery man Hal Leuco to win a huge bounty includes a resourceful beauty who has a unique method of killing her prey (Martha Higareda), a power-tool wielding psychopath (Vinnie Jones) and a deadly master of disguise (Tommy Flanagan). Also in the hunt is the fan-favorite Tremor family from the original film, featuring nymphomaniacal gun-nut (Autumn Reeser) and her lethal kinfolk (Maury Sterling, Michael Parks and C. Ernst Harth). Foreign Objects travels the world of international cinema each week in search of films worth visiting. So renew your passport, get your shots, and brush up on the local age of legal consent, this week we’re heading to… Hong Kong! There's a brilliant scene in the upcoming Kathryn Bigelow film, The Hurt Locker, that features two snipers duelling from hundreds of yards apart. It's tense and suspenseful, but it's also intentionally slow and grueling. You'll hear more about the scene when the film opens wide this summer, but trust me that it will instantly take a top spot in the pantheon of sniper cinema. For reference, Mark Wahlberg's under-appreciated Shooter is in the top half of the spectrum while Tom Berenger's Sniper 3 is at the far other end. Somewhere in the middle sits the new film from director Dante Lam. The Sniper opens with two young cops who find themselves outnumbered in a »

Hong Kong’s “The Sniper” appeals to me because it’s about those mysterious guys who you never see, but who can kill you from three football fields away, and you’d never know it. When done right, like the 1993 Tom Berenger movie “Sniper” or 2001’s “Enemy at the Gates”, sniping is an art form that makes for great, exciting cinema. While Dante Lam’s “The Sniper” doesn’t quite rise to those levels of greatness, it’s not an entirely bad action movie. Sure, the acting is spotty, there’s that massive blight called the Edison Chen sex scandal that kept the film shelved for over a year, and the script is sketchy, as if whole sections of it were ripped out before the start of production. Nevertheless, for those into movies about snipers and their sniping ways, “The Sniper” is not an entirely bad action movie. If nothing else, »

Since we've already had Snakes on a Plane and Snakes on a Train, that means both air and land are covered. Which must mean it’s now time for the snakes to go underwater? That's exactly what we'll get when Silent Venom surfaces onto DVD this June - snakes in a sub.
You know the drill. It all starts with a top secret military project involving a mutant breed of venomous snake. Isn't that how it always starts? Has there ever been a motion picture where such experiments don't result in the snakes getting loose and a massive loss of life? What's different this time is that the snakes get loose within the cramped confines of an undersea military submarine.
Technically speaking, this is not the first time snakes have run wild aboard a sub. David Janssen starred in the 1974 telefilm Fer-De-Lance that also saw poisonous snakes smuggled aboard a »

According to Moviehole and Blackfilm, both Tom Berenger (Sniper, Platoon, Major League) and Sofia Vergara (Madea Goes to Jail) are in talks to join the straight-to-dvd "Smokin' Aces" prequel called "Smokin' Aces: Blowback." Berenger is said to be in talks to play the lead in the film, a federal agent sworn to protect a witness under custody from the mass of maniacs and thugs who have either been evoked or commissioned to nail him. One of the bounty hunters is Ak-47, the sister of the Tremors' boys from the original. Vergara spoke about her role: "I start shooting in 2 weeks the prequel to 'Smokin' Aces'. I'm like an assassin. I just got the part yesterday." The rest of the cast includes David Richmond-Peck (2012), Michael Parks (From Dusk Till Dawn), Nestor Carbonell ("Lost") and Tommy Flanagan (Avp). Pj Pesce (Lost Boys: The Tribe) is set to direct the new film, which will get underway in Vancouver. »
