- Sharpe discovers his men dancing and otherwise engaged with prostitutes at what appears to be a brothel. Some men are shown in various intimate positions with the women; with one couple that are dancing together, the woman's shirt is open and one of her bare breasts is briefly seen.

- Arrogant officers heap various abuses on their enlisted men and civilians with no remorse or hesitation due to their privileged status as "gentlemen".
- Simmerson orders one of Sharpe's soldiers to be flogged. There is a somewhat intense flogging scene, where the tied up man is whipped. A lot of blood is shown, with the whip gouging his back. Afterwards, alcohol is poured over the raw wounds to assist their healing, and the man yells in pain as it stings his wounds and washes blood onto the ground.
