A Decade of Movies: One Man’s Cinematic Journey

9 December 2009 10:43 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Before 2001, movies really didn’t mean a lot to me. Sure, I loved the general mainstream fair that blew up the box office and showed enough sex and violence to keep my demented, testosterone-saturated mind happy, but the Art of Cinema was completely lost on me. Movies like Under Siege and Commando dominated my late nights in front of the television, and I can distinctly remember seeing a trailer for Fargo and thinking, “What the goddamn fuck?” (I also remember begging my stepdad to let me watch Showgirls so I could “see the boobs.” Hey, I’m not proud. My attitude might not have changed, but at least I’m a little more subtle now.) But what do you expect? I was sixteen and far more interested in John Grisham novels and The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time to really care too much about what was playing at the local movie theater. I »

If you like 'Cops', you'll love 'Steven Seagal Lawman'

8 December 2009 2:49 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

What could be better than Cops? How about Cops starring America's favorite straight-to-video martial artist, Steven Seagal? My colleague Ken Tucker recently weighed in on A&E's Steven Seagal Lawman when it debuted. And now that the second episode has aired (the third premieres Wednesday night at 10 p.m.), it's becoming clear that Seagal with a police badge and a taser is far more interesting than anything he's done since Under Siege. I'll admit that I had no clue that Seagal has been moonlighting from his Hollywood day job for the past 20 years as a deputy in Louisiana's Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. »

Review: Law Abiding Citizen - Stupid and nasty

3 December 2009 3:08 AM, PST | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

If you’ve read any of my other reviews, you might have picked up that I quite like action films. If you haven’t, allow me to explain; I quite like action films. That is to say Die Hard is my favourite film of all time, and Crank is the best action film of recent years bar none. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have extensive tastes, it just means that my tolerance for terrible Hollywood tripe is pretty high*. I will actively seek out films that look like they are going to be so-bad-they’re-good. Which is why the Jamie Foxx/Gerard Butler vehicle Law Abiding Citizen appealed to me. The trailers made it look really awful, and one reviewer described it as the ‘ultimate popcorn movie’, whatever that means. I was prepared for my thumbs to be thoroughly erect in appreciation. Sadly Law Abiding Citizen falls at the first hurdle, »

Seagal Eyes Under Siege 3

1 December 2009 11:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Steven Seagal is begging studio bosses to make a third Under Siege movie - insisting he would "give anything" to return to the action franchise.

The 57-year-old star last won over audiences as a U.S. Navy Seal in 1995's Under Siege 2: Dark Territory.

The martial arts expert has since dedicated much of his time to working as a deputy sheriff near his home in Louisiana - but he admits he'd be tempted back to Hollywood by the right offer.

Seagal says, "Under Siege 3? Everybody wants to see a sequel, including me. I would give anything to make that." »

Steven Seagal: Lawman -- An early look

28 November 2009 7:33 AM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

When I heard that Steven Seagal had a new A&E series coming out called Steven Seagal: Lawman, I thought, oh great, another cop show starring an aging movie star. But that's not what it is at all! Ok, I'll qualify that. Yes, it Is a cop show starring an aging movie star, but probably not what you think.

Turns out that Steven Seagal, best known for his action movies like Above the Law, Hard to Kill, and Under Siege, has been quietly working under the radar for the past 20 years as a real-life deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana. Part of his duties there include instructing the other officers on weapons skills and martial arts.

Steven Seagal has been a cop for 20 years?!?

10 September 2009 11:29 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

The world has officially been turned upside down for me.

Apparently when he's not making bad-ass movies like Under Siege, Exit Wounds, or my personal favorite, Today You Die, Steven Seagal is a Deputy Sheriff in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana and he's been doing it for 20 years.

Can it get better? Yes. Starting in December, A&E is sending cameras along with him.

Action movie star Steven Seagal's new reality television series has hit a legal snag in a dispute over the origination of the idea.

In a federal lawsuit filed on Monday, A&E Television Networks has sued California-based Genuine over the production company's claim that A&E stole the concept for the show after both parties had several meetings.

Stacie Ponder - Spielberg Under Siege? Mega-Shark Takes a Bite out of Jaws

Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975) is widely considered not only one of the great horror movies of all time, but one of the best motion pictures ever, period. The direct-to-dvd Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009) is not. Lindsay Lohan, Steven Seagal rumored for Rodriguez’s ‘Machete’

Steven Seagal & Lindsay Lohan

Anytime I see a bit of news regarding Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming feature, Machete, I need to change my pants. Especially if Lindsay Lohan and Steven Seagal are involved.

Well, maybe just Lohan.

Rodriguez is sending the script to just about everybody that has a pulse, boobs and used to be a big action star yet those who have actually signed onto the production have been scarce.

“We’ve cast nobody but Danny [Trejo] and Michelle Rodriguez, but we’ve sent the script out to a lot of people,” Rodriguez recently told MTV. “There are a lot of people we’re sending it to, big names – but nobody that we’ve signed yet.”

Early last week, I reported that Jonah Hill and Robert De Niro were reviewing the script but nothing has been confirmed…yet. Now we’ve learned that the man behind Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn »

Stone Cold, Brian Bosworth and the Lost Art of the Action Movie

A security camera reveals the interior of an empty supermarket. The grainy black and white image is shattered when a grizzly figure wearing a cut off muscle T and a greasy ponytail smashes the lens with the butt of a gun. Four thugs are robbing the supermarket with automatic weapons and they’re taking the cashiers hostage. In all the commotion, the automatic door opens. A pan up reveals leather boots, stonewashed jeans, a tank top, a leather trench coat and then, the mullet. You’ve seen this NFL-sized mullet get drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 1987. You’ve seen this mullet being dragged into the end zone by Bo Jackson. The bleached blonde mullet belongs to classic NFL bust Brian Bosworth. While the Boz couldn’t get it done on the field, in 1991, he made short work of the supermarket thieves, a gang of bikers, and Lance Hendriksen in his action movie debut, »

The Under Siege star has worked with producer Avi Lerner on a handful of films, but insiders report the pair has fallen out.

A source tells movie new website Moviehole.net, "There’s too much bad blood between them."

But the all-star action film is close to adding another big Hollywood name - reports suggest Bruce Willis is in negotiations to join Stallone and his pals in the movie. »

The Horror of Breeding Jean-Claude Van Damme

27 May 2009 2:40 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Over a decade ago there was talk of a movie that would have cast Jean-Claude Van Damme as a park ranger forced into a life or death struggle against Bigfoot. Sadly, that film never came about and we were forever denied the sight of the "Muscles from Brussels" kickboxing Sasquatch. On the plus side, it looks like Van Damme is finally set to enter the world of horrordom with a new fright flick called The Breed. Exactly what he'll be kickboxing remains to be seen.

Arrow in the Head reports that at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Van Damme, who may be on the verge of a career resurgence following the surprisingly well received Jcvd, had the following to say about two upcoming projects.

"This summer I will make a new movie with a famous director called Weapon. After that I will make a horror movie called The Breed. It's a great story, »
