The seaside scenes, use of light and treatment of wind in Julie Dash's Daughters of the Dust (1991) served as inspirations for Ruth Rachel Anderson-Avraham's visual poem Henna Splash (2006). Ms. Anderson-Avraham fell in love with the film the first time she saw it, as an undergraduate student at the University of Virginia in the early 1990's.
