Video games have carried the legacy of Iron Man since Robert Downey Jr. stepped down as the billionaire superhero in the movies. However, the attempt hasn’t been very fruitful as the character’s presence in Marvel’s Avengers didn’t exactly become the apple of the fans’ eyes. Still, efforts haven’t been stopped yet and the fan-favorite superhero is reportedly getting a standalone open-world game.
Open-world games are fun but the superhero genre is more inclined towards a linear narrative. Still, games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and its associates have become standard for open-world in this bracket. Now Electronic Arts’ Motive Studio is developing an Iron Man game which may raise questions if it’ll enlarge this bracket or fall out of it to become another strange kid on the block.

There are a few characters in movies that are so popular, like Alien, first introduced in the 1979 Ridley Scott movie. This creature, known as Xenomorph, has appeared in several movies and many games throughout the years. 20th Century Studios recently revealed the trailer for Alien: Romulus, the new entry in this legendary franchise.
Federico Álvarez, the director of the Evil Dead remake, will direct this film, which will release in August of this year with a whole new cast. These are five games that match the movie’s atmosphere.
Alien: Romulus is looking to bring the franchise back to its original setting Alien Romulus the new game about this popular character will be released on August this year.
Ridley Scott’s original universe serves as the basis for an incredible number of games based on the popular character Alien. Generic movie titles like Alien Infestation, Alien vs. Predator (1993), and many more.

As always, the video game industry has the ability to create titles based on virtually any genre. In the past, titles like Dead Space mixed survival horror with space, while other games like Age of Empires gave a strategic perspective on medieval or even fantasy settings with gods and myths.
With this in mind, a new game was born: Dino Lords. This experience is a mix of Dino Crisis, Command & Conquer, and Age of Empires. The trailer said it all, and players are very surprised by this combination.
The perfect mix between Dino Crisis and Command and Conquer Command & Conquer and Dino Crisis arrived to a new announced game.
There are a lot of experiments with games that combine two very different things that you never thought would work. Games such as the Horizon Saga, combining a tribe with autonomous robots capable of mimicking animals and even attacking humans, have gained immense popularity on PlayStation.

After successfully bringing back Dead Space from cold storage, it would seem like a no brainer that EA and developer Motive would get to work on a remake of Dead Space 2. However, according to a new rumour, that may not be in the cards.
According to insider Jeff Grubb (who reported on the original remake’s existence prior to its announcement), on his Game Mess Mornings show, Grubb stated that Motive was working on concepts for Dead Space 2, but that work was ultimately shelved due to lackluster sales of the remake. EA Motive has in turn shifted work to Iron Man and Battlefield Universe.
However, per IGN, EA has responded to the rumour, stating that “We don’t normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story.”
Adding a twist to all of this is that EA hasn’t actually reported the sales numbers for the Dead Space remake.

EA recently announced that developer Motive Studio will be assisting in the development of the Battlefield franchise while continuing their work on an upcoming Iron Man game. Fans of that studio quickly realized that many of the people involved with Motive’s critically acclaimed 2023 Dead Space remake are now seemingly working on at least one of those two other projects. Yet, EA made no mention of the Dead Space 2 remake that Motive was reportedly supposed to be working on. That notable lack of information caused Dead Space fans to fear the worst.
Now, Jeff Grubb is reporting that Motive has essentially shelved their previously planned Dead Space 2 remake for a reason that has long haunted the Dead Space franchise like so many Necromorphs: disappointing sales.
“They were working on Dead Space 2, and they are no longer working on it,” said Grubb during a recent podcast regarding Motive’s upcoming projects.

Update: A spokesperson from EA told IGN that the rumor about Dead Space 2 remake being cancelled isn’t true, because the project wasn’t in development in the first place. They said,
“We don’t normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story.”
In light of this new information, it’s safe to say that a Dead Space 2 remake might still be a possibility.
Original Story: Dead Space fans might be in for disappointment, as the word on the street is that EA has cancelled the Dead Space 2 remake. This intel was offered by renowned insider Jeff Grub during an episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast.

Battlefield 2042 development team has just announced that the seventh season of the game will be its last. The update was shared in an official blog post by the General Manager of Battlefield franchise, Byron Beede.
Acknowledging that this decision may disappoint fans, Byron Beede explained,
“…as we looked at what the future of the series required, it became clear it was time for us to shift our resources and focus to be fully dedicated to what comes next.”
Turning Point, the latest Battlefield 2042 season, was released just last month and received a mix response from the community. While the update did bring a few notable additions (with more to come in the near future), ardent Battlefield fans remained unimpressed.
This may have triggered EA to pull the plug on season 8 of Battlefield 2042. However, it’s a slow pull. While the game won’t get a new season, it will continue to receive fresh content.

Survival horror games have finally made a comeback in a huge manner. First was The Callisto Protocol, which launched in 2022 to mixed reviews. It was followed by the Dead Space remake, which launched to critical acclaim. Then fans got a game called Resident Evil 4 Remake, and finally, Alan Wake 2 was launched by Remedy Entertainment.
Most of these games were incredibly successful; they were no doubt serving a market that had been overlooked for a while. The above-mentioned games also gave the fans of survival horror games hope that they can now see more such games released in the near future. But some of these games also took a bunch of inspiration from games that were before them, like Alan Wake 2, which was heavily inspired by a classic horror franchise.

One of the most successful strategies that Sony implemented over these two generations of consoles were the PlayStation exclusives. These titles generate a lot of sales for the platforms. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and God of War have made consoles like the PS4 one of the most popular and sold gaming platforms ever.
Connie Booth was a key part of this strategy; this executive left Sony last year and now joins EA in a similar position. The title that Booth will have in EA is Group General Manager Action RPG.

Alone in the Dark is an extremely important franchise within the sub-genre of survival horror. The first game in the series is considered by many to be the first true survival horror video game ever released. Thus, without this franchise, other iconic survival horror titles like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alan Wake may never have come to pass.
This is one reason that this reimagining of the original Alone in the Dark was my most anticipated 2024 release, the other reason is because survival horror remakes have been knocking it out of the park lately. Last year alone saw Capcom expertly remaster the iconic Resident Evil 4, after the year opened with EA releasing a masterful remake of the original Dead Space.
All of this combined with the star power of David Harbour and Jodie Comer in the lead roles meant that Pieces Interactive’s 2024 reimagining of Alone in the Dark...

For as long as survival horror has existed, confounding puzzles and bewildering navigation have been staples of the experience. Granted, they did fall out of fashion for a brief period in the late-noughties — when games like Dead Space and Resident Evil 5 pivoted in a more action-oriented direction — but generally they have been mainstays of the genre ever since the very beginning.
Although it’s up for debate where those origins actually, you know, originated, the original Alone in the Dark at least belongs in the conversation. It may have arrived a little later than kitschy Fmv outings like Night Trap and some of those side-scrolling movie tie-ins — which, let’s be honest, were just bog-standard platformers anyway — but it’s where the style as we understand it today was properly codified.
Indeed, Frédérick Raynal’s trailblazer pioneered most of the ideas that we now associate with classic survival horror,...

Everyone remembers that David Lynch commercial for the PlayStation 2 in all its Lynchian weirdness. And now it’s come full circle (sort of), thanks to a user by the name of DrJones20, who has recreated Lynch’s surreal masterpiece Eraserhead in Media Molecule’s Dreams for the PlayStation 5.
It’s obviously not the full length film, but this compressed version still includes many of the film’s iconic characters and scenes, and uses the audio from the film and a grainy 4:3 filter to complete the tribute. DrJones20 had apparently been working on this for quite some time, having teased the infamous baby a while back on Reddit.
This isn’t the first time that Dreams has been giving creators a chance to flex their muscles. We’ve had recreations of games like the original Dead Space and Resident Evil, as well as scenes from films like Stanley Kubrick‘s...

Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 is looking to continue its winning ways from last year at this year’s Dice Awards. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (Aias) announced the nominees for the 27th annual show, which will be livestreamed by IGN on Thursday, February 15 from the Aria Resort in Las Vegas.
A total of 56 games released in 2023 are nominated for this year’s Dice Awards, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 leading the way with 9 nominations, followed by Alan Wake 2 with 8 nominations, and Baldur’s Gate 3 (which won Game of The Year at The Game Awards last month) with 7 nominations.
All three games are vying for Dice’s Game of the Year award, alongside Geometric Interactive’s Cocoon and Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. 2023 was one hell of a year for games. From long-anticipated sequels like Alan Wake II, unexpectedly great remakes like Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space, and killer indies like Amnesia: The Bunker, there was absolutely no shortage in tremendous horror experiences.
What does the future hold? 2024 is already shaping up to be an interesting year with anticipated experiences of its own. These are the games we’re looking forward to next year.
Silent Hill 2: The Remake (PS5)

Despite being middle-aged and having a deep love of horror. I am too much of a coward to play horror games. I love the idea of them, but games give you agency, and that dear reader is too much pressure for me. Running in panic as the monsters close in, is too much for me to bear. I love the idea of it, but the moment I see the first monster, I must “take a break” and never come back to it.
That is, until the Dead Space remake. I am calling this, the perfect sci-fi horror game.
As the game loads up, we are presented with the terror that this game is from “Electronic Arts”. If I hadn’t been forced to install some pointless EA software on my PC, just to play it, I might think that awful company had changed (it hasn’t). But in Dead Space,...

2023 was one hell of a year for games. The sky was the limit when it came to diverse releases. It was also a year of innovation. Whether it be revisiting a classic and updating it for modern audiences, fixing broken promises with grand reworkings, or delivering unique experiences.
This year is honestly one I’ll never forget and I was honored to bring you constant reviews of the latest releases. The time has come now to recognize the ones that stood out most to me; the best of the best. The cream of the crop. These are the top 10 best games of the year.
10) RoboCop: Rogue City
Robocop: Rogue City is by no means a perfect game. A lot of the mechanics are shallow. The gameplay gets repetitive. The small open hubs aren’t too explorable. Some of the writing is shoddy. So why is it on this list? Well,...

Baldur’s Gate III got the better of Alan Wake 2 last night at The Game Awards 2023. Despite both games having 8 nominations, Larian Studios’ RPG snagged five wins, including the coveted Game of the Year. Baldur’s Gate III also won the awards for Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer, and the Player’s Voice.
Fortunately, Alan Wake 2 didn’t walk away empty-handed. Remedy’s return to Bright Falls won the awards for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction. Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 4, however, was not so fortunate. The remake was shut out of all of its nominations, while Resident Evil Village won its only nomination in the Best VR/Ar Game category.

Gaming’s biggest awards night returns on December 7 with The Game Awards 2023, and the nominees are in across more than 30 categories. As expected, it’s crowded at the top for nominations, with Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate III and Alan Wake II leading the way with 8 nominations each.
The big question (as with most years) is the Game of the Year Award. This year, Baldur’s Gate III and Alan Wake II are up for the award, but Nintendo has an edge with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also nominated, as is Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake, which has three nominations in total.

The Game Awards 2023 panel has revealed the full list of nominees who will be eligible to win at this year’s show. While many of the nominees are relatively unsurprising, there are certainly a few games that did (and didn’t) get nominated that will get people talking.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Game Awards 2023’s nominees and voting process.
The Game Awards 2023: How Voting Works
According to the Game Awards website, Game Awards winners are determined by a “blended vote” that accounts for jury votes and fan votes. The jury votes account for 90% of the voting weight while the fan votes make up the remaining 10%.
Though an example of that formula is not provided, it’s basically best to think of the system like a 10-person voting jury. Nine of the jurors would represent voting individuals of the group, and the 10th person would...

The prospect of wandering around large, expansive game worlds used to fill me with excitement. Upon escaping the tutorial dungeon for the very first time in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, I distinctly remember being overwhelmed by the sheer scale of that virtual playground rolling out before me, and the endless adventures that it tacitly promised. My awestruck 10-year-old brain couldn’t quite fathom that I was free to go in literally any direction and that, no matter which compass point I chose to follow, I was guaranteed to stumble across some memorable characters, tantalising locations or intriguing questlines.
As a kid who wasn’t yet able to buy their own games — and so usually had to wait until either Christmas or my birthday to get ahold of new releases — the idea of something having that kind of mileage seemed too good to be true. After all, I could make...

Exclusive: Fox Entertainment has struck a first-of-its-kind drama development deal with a trio of production companies, Walter Iuzzolino’s Eagle Eye, The Serial Killer’s Wife producer Clapperboard and Newen Studios label Aux Singuliers.
Fox Scripted Programming President Michael Thorn said the U.S. network and UK producers will “identify and implement entirely new production models,” while similar discussions are taking place with producers and studios in Europe, Australia and Canada.
With Clapperboard and Aux Singuliers, Fox is working on Dead Space [working title] from Young Wallander scribe Ben Harris.
Grounded in the reality of the current space race, the series attempts to redefine the traditional police procedural as it explores the complex moral, political and real legal machinations after a murder is committed aboard the International Space Station. It follows in the footsteps of the BBC’s Vigil, which took a similar approach to a murder mystery on a Navy submarine.

After the first day of big reveals, Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2023 concluded last night with the Horror Game Awards. Spread across 13 categories (and one lifetime achievement award), the big winner last night was Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake.
The acclaimed remake of the 2005 classic nabbed all five of its nominated categories, including Horror Game of The Year. Meanwhile, Capcom’s other Resident Evil title, Resident Evil Village, snagged the award for Best VR/Ar Horror.
The title closest to equaling RE4‘s total wins was rose-engine’s Alien-esque Survival Horror title Signalis, which snagged the awards for Best Narrative of the Year and Best Indie Horror of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Horror Game Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award went to Mikael Hedberg, lead writer for the upcoming Alone in the Dark remake, as well as Amnesia: Rebirth and Soma.
Here’s a complete rundown of the winners:

You’re in Space and Everything’s Fucked. It’s both an eye-catching title and a quick summary of the new gore-drenched sci-fi tabletop RPG by Nevyn Holmes. The game, inspired by video games like System Shock and Dead Space, is designed for a Gm and one to four players. After a successful Kickstarter in April, You’re in Space and Everything’s Fucked has been released digitally with a physical release coming later this year. While space horror is a well-trodden subgenre in the tabletop world, with notable titles like Alien RPG and Mothership, this new game has plenty of unique features to help it stand out from the crowd.
There are two books that come with You’re in Space and Everything’s Fucked, one for the game master, or Station, and one for the players, or Strugglers. While there is duplicate information presented in both books, they...

The inherent pull of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" (Fnaf) video game series is suspense, coupled with the raw fear of what might be waiting for you in the dark. While the core premise of each installment is fairly easy to figure out in terms of objectives, the franchise places particular emphasis on keen observation, spatial awareness, and investment into character attributes. "Fnaf" enthusiasts must have been delighted when a film adaptation of the popular video game franchise was announced, followed by a trailer that showcased security guard Mike Schmidt (John Hutcherson) going through the wringer after accepting a job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza establishment.
Just like players in the game, Mike has to keep track of video camera footage and resolve anomalies that might crop up during his night duty. However, things are more ominous than they seem, as Mike also has to contend with the four animatronic mascots...

First announced back in May, Feardemic’s voting for the Horror Game Awards is now open for you, the fans, to decide the best of 2022’s crop of horror video games. It’s up to you to decide who receives Golden Bats in each of the 13 categories between all of your favorite games.
The Horror Game Awards are part of Feardemic’s horror extravaganza, Fear Fest, which is being run in partnership with IGN, and will take place on September 6th & 7th. The event will showcase the most anticipated horror games coming your way for the latter half of 2023 and into 2024, plus “a ton of indie horror” from indie publishers.
The next night will see Feardemic and IGN present the Horror Game Awards, celebrating the best horror games of 2022, and honoring the developers who made them. That does not, however, mean that you have months to cast your votes, because...

‘The Callisto Protocol’ Dlc Review – “The Final Transmission” Fails to Improve on a Flawed Base Game
In Thomas Wilde’s review of the Callisto Protocol last December, he wrote that the game could have used more time in development to reach the full potential of what developer Striking Distance was going for. In the last seven months, the game has received patches fixing bugs and adding new game modes, including New Game+ and a combat-focused Riot Mode, culminating with its last piece of content, a story Dlc called “The Final Transmission.”
Unfortunately, even with the extra time, the core problems of the base game still plague this expansion, highlighting the fundamental flaws in the game’s design. “The Final Transmission” takes place after the events of the main game, following Jacob (Josh Duhamel), under the orders of Dr. Caitlyn Mahler (Louise Barnes), in his efforts to escape Black Iron Prison with data about the nefarious experiments taking place. Aside from the additional story content, the game...

On the surface, 2023 feels like a backslide. At the very least, a rather sizable number of the year’s best gaming experiences either look or act like early-to-mid-2000s ones. What’s magical about the year so far, though, is how many of those experiences are winning examples of unfinished business being taken care of. Indeed, many of the titles on our list of the best games of the year so far prove that developers set out to perfect some old, untapped ideas, putting in careful, meticulous work to make them shine their brightest.
So, if the aughts are back with a vengeance, we aren’t complaining. Of course, the year in gaming has also made room for the new and powerful, and we’ve been thrown a few stellar curveballs. That is, developers are taking wild swings that could only ever have been possible at this particular period in time,...

The long-awaited story-based Dlc for The Callisto Protocol has finally been revealed in “The Final Transmission”. The Dlc will launch as a timed exclusive on PlayStation consoles on June 27, with other platforms getting the Dlc on June 29.
Accompanying the announcement is a teaser for “The Final Transmission”, which doesn’t reveal much in terms of the “heart-pounding final chapter” of the story for The Callisto Protocol. One can speculate from the trailer, which appears to tease cybernetically-enhanced Biophages.
Despite the disappointing sales of The Callisto Protocol, developer Striking Distance Studios has been working to try and boost the game since its launch. The spiritual successor to Dead Space has received free Dlc updates to add things such as a New Game+ , Hardcore Mode, and more recently a Riot Mode.
The Callisto Protocol is out now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

Cineverse announced today the massive news that Bloody Disgusting, the company’s multiplatform horror brand, will produce the new scripted audio series “Dead Space: Deep Cover” in cooperation with Electronic Arts Inc., a global leader in digital interactive entertainment. IGN first broke the news this morning.
Based on the award-winning video game series, “Dead Space: Deep Cover” is an all-new story set in the perilous universe of the Dead Space games, a survival horror franchise known for its intense gameplay and atmospheric storytelling. The Dead Space games and this year’s remake garnered critical acclaim for their immersive gameplay mechanics, innovative features like strategic dismemberment, and dark, suspenseful narrative.
In “Dead Space: Deep Cover,” journalist Emmeline Ayuba searches for her sister, who reportedly joined a local Unitologist church. As she delves into the mysterious world of this church, she uncovers internal conflicts, strange customs and the personal sacrifices she must...

“With all of the remakes going on today, you can never be sure what you’ll get at the end.”
It was with this cautious scepticism that veteran game designer, Frédérick Raynal, initially greeted the news of his most famous creation, Alone in the Dark, getting another do-over.
Which is an understandable reaction, given that this franchise has a singularly bad track-record when it comes to being fumbled by outsiders. And that’s putting it lightly, as anybody who has ever played 2015’s risible Illumination will attest.
You see, while other survival horror classics like Resident Evil and (to a lesser extent) Silent Hill have managed to evolve with the times and cling to their relevancy, Alone in the Dark has suffered quite a spectacular fall from grace.
Very few players under the age of 30 will remember the series with all that much fondness, given that its entries have been...

Sci-fi horror is all the rage these days, with Scorn, Signalis, The Callisto Protocol and the upcoming Greyhill Incident all capitalizing on the voguish trend. Even Dead Space (a franchise that was driven into the ground by its own publisher and forced into complete dormancy for almost a decade) has managed to make itself relevant again.
Always with its finger on the pulse, Dead by Daylight is looking to get in on the action next with its Chapter 28 Dlc. This imminent expansion — which is scheduled for release on DbD’s copper anniversary — will see the multiplayer game take to the stars and promises to really shake things up with fresh content that’s unlike anything they’ve ever done before.
And what better way is there to celebrate 7 years of asymmetrical bloodshed than to go intergalactic? After all, crossing that final frontier is pretty much the crowing achievement of any slasher franchise that has legs.

Still haven’t jumped into EA and Motive’s Dead Space remake? EA has a solution for that: a new time-limited demo for the Steam version of Dead Space that you can play right now.
Taking a similar approach to Capcom’s demo for the Resident Evil 2 remake, the Dead Space demo will only give you 90 minutes of playtime. On top of that, the demo will only be available from now until May 29th. The Dead Space demo is actually the first in a new feature that Steam is rolling out, where developers and publishers can offer limited-time free trials for their games.
In some ways, this new model benefits the developer, since before this, Steam would offer free weekends for games, where players could conceivably power through them in a weekend without having to buy it. This new model entices players to buy the game once their trial is up.

Alongside viral outbreaks and murderous revenants, horror games love pitting us against threats from beyond the stars.
If you have even a passing interest in the genre, then you’re bound to have dealt with a few alien hordes in your time, as we just can’t seem to get enough of these terrifying close encounters. In the past twelve months alone, we’ve fought extra-terrestrial beasties in The Callisto Protocol, Signalis, Scorn, and of course, the exemplary Dead Space remake.
And while those titles certainly had their differences and idiosyncrasies, one thing remained consistent across the board. Taking to heart that old adage: “In space, no one can hear you scream”; they all put a fair bit of distance between you (as the player) and the reassuring comforts of Planet Earth.
Whether they were sentencing you to life in a maximum-security prison orbiting Jupiter, getting you to respond to...

Video games may not be as well respected as other narrative artforms, but it’s only a matter of time before mainstream media begins to regard these interactive experiences with the same prestige as film and television. Fortunately, there are some artistic pioneers from other areas that have already recognized the creative potential of gaming, and this is especially true when it comes to the horror genre.
With so many genre filmmakers choosing to support interactive digital art, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six times that masters of horror contributed to videogames. After all, from famous writers to big-name directors, there are plenty of examples of multimedia collaboration in gaming.
As usual, we’ll be abiding by a couple of rules. First, we’ll only be including masters of horror that don’t specialize in videogames (that means no Shinji Mikami!). Second, the contribution has...

Of the many reasons we play video games, the idea of playing one to experience its story is still probably the strangest motivation for those still largely unfamiliar with the medium. Obviously, the idea that games don’t (or can’t) tell compelling stories is an antiquated notion that is slowly fading from the public consciousness. Yet, you sometimes get the feeling that more people are coming around to the idea that video game stories can be great rather than the realization that there are countless video game stories that are already definitively great.
If you are reading this, there is a good chance you don’t need to be told that great video game stories have existed for nearly as long as video games themselves. Yet, there are times when it feels necessary to stop and really appreciate what diverse, essential, and, more often than not, unique stories gaming...

Two months since adding Hardcore Mode to the game, Striking Distance Studios has added an additional mode to The Callisto Protocol with the latest patch. Taking a cue from its inspiration in Dead Space, the new Dismemberment Mode is an entirely brand new way to play The Callisto Protocol, bringing it closer to its inspiration.
As you might expect, Dismemberment Mode in The Callisto Protocol allows players to hack off enemy limbs and totally dismember your Biophage foes. This is an entirely new mode of play, and isn’t an additional feature for all the existing modes. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to earn campaign achievements or trophies with Dismemberment Mode active.
Alongside the addition of the new mode, the patch also comes with the ability to skip cutscenes. Unfortunately for players on PC, the latest patch does not add any additional performance or optimizations to the game.

As the project’s page states, “You’ve played Dead Space (2008) and you’ve played Dead Space (2023) it’s time to soak in the horrid vibes of Dead Space (1998).” Indie developer Fraser Brumley announced this morning that his Dead Space Demake has finally been released, and is available now over at the project’s itch.io page.
“Thanks for waiting! I’ve been working on this for a lot longer than I planned and the end product is probably shorter than you expect but I hope you have fun playing it,” explains Brumley, who created the project in Unreal. As mentioned, the demake looks to emulate that classic PlayStation graphical look, complete with the PS1’s infamous texture wobbling.
Of course, in spite of the nostalgic leanings, the demake manages to incorporate the modern aesthetics of Dead Space. That includes the series’ trademark limb severing, as well as the minimalist...

Go far off enough off the beaten path in any game, and you’re almost certainly going to be rewarded. Maybe it will just be with a collectible or side quest, but in a lot of instances, that’s where developers hide Easter Eggs – those little in-jokes or nods to other games or media that are meant only for the most dedicated fans.
Easter Eggs have been around almost as long as video games themselves, and as they’ve become more common, it’s become increasingly difficult for them to stand out, but still, a few are particularly worth taking the time to find. These are the best video game Easter Eggs ever.

It is pretty unbelievable that within the first quarter of 2023, horror fans have been graced with not one but Two strong remakes of modern horror classics. Improving on the original game’s outdated mechanics and giving it the functionality gamers would expect from a more modern game design. Dead Space also being gorgeous didn’t hurt.

Since the genre’s inception, collectable documents have been a staple element of survival horror, found in everything from Silent Hill to Outlast. For years, resourceful developers have been using them to establish their worlds, tease upcoming threats, aid players in solving puzzles, and to tell self-contained stories.
Indeed, it is because these files are so versatile that we’ve dedicated a regular feature to them at Bloody Disgusting, in the form of this Dread Notes series. Here, we shine a spotlight on the most creative examples of in-game journals, audio logs, bestiaries, video clips and so on, with a view to exploring what they add to the overall experience. In this latest installment, we’ll be putting Motive Studio’s superb remake of Dead Space under the microscope.
Though they might seem ubiquitous today, there was a point in the late noughties when collectable documents had fallen somewhat out of fashion.

Remember Rustic Games Br’s “demake” of Dead Space? Another indie developer has decided to put together a Dead Space demake of their own. And unlike Rustic Games’ version, this one is intended to be playable!
Much like the Rustic’s effort, developer Fraser Brumley has gone the PS1-styled route for his Dead Space demake, in all its wobbly polygonal goodness. Fraser has managed to remain faithful to the original version of Dead Space with this project , cramming in not only the minimalist Ui, but also the dismemberment aspect. Let’s be honest: this demake would feel very out of place if it didn’t include dealing with Necromorphs in this fashion.
Sadly, as good as this is, Fraser stresses that demake won’t run on original PS1 hardware (which would be mind-blowing if it did). However, that’s a small price to pay for getting something that looks...

Recently, Striking Distance Studios and Krafton, Inc. updated The Callisto Protocol with some optional content. Instead of improving the game, however, this Dlc might be yet another nail in Callisto Protocol’s coffin.
On March 14, Callisto Protocol players could start purchasing the game’s Contagion Bundle. This $10 Dlc includes new skins for player outfits and weapons, 14 new death animations, and the titular Contagion Mode, which is supposed to be The Callisto Protocol’s ultimate challenge. Anyone who partakes in Contagion Mode deals with stronger enemies, fewer resources, and no manual saves, and, if you die once, it’s back to the beginning of the chapter. Sounds fun, right? Well, according to players, it sadly isn’t.

A sizable chunk of my formative years were spent watching late night Discovery Channel, so I think it makes sense that I used to be unreasonably terrified of being abducted by aliens. After all, growing up in the presence of (faked) alien autopsies and sensationalist coverage of the Betty and Barney Hill incident is bound to have a few long-term ramifications. However, this irrational fear of extraterrestrials also resulted in a paradoxical fascination with all things UFO-related – especially when it came to videogames.
If it featured a Grey Alien on the box-art, you better believe that I played it and later suffered the consequences (usually in the form of vivid nightmares). Of course, not all alien visits are created equal, and some of these video game moments were more terrifying (and unexpected) than others. And with the Greyhill Incident announcement trailer reminding gamers that they should look up to the skies in dread,...

If you love survival horror games, odds are you love Resident Evil. The series essentially wrote the book on survival horror mechanics, from tank controls to limited ammo. Even when Resident Evil went third-person with Resident Evil 4, the game did such a good job that it became the blueprint many studios copy to this day.
Now while many survival horror games, especially modern ones, copy Resident Evil’s blueprint, calling most of them “Resident Evil clones” would be disingenuous. Many titles add unique spins, such as Fatal Frame’s camera that forces players to wait until enemies attack for maximum damage, or Siren’s sight-jacking ability that lets gamers scout out areas by seeing the world through a monster’s eyes. Of course, there is no shortage of games that take at least some inspiration from Resident Evil (or are just survival horror titles in general). In fact, you...

So, Motive Studio’s Dead Space remake is a goodun. And while we wait on EA to decide how to capitalize on the remake’s success, Motive Studio went back to the well again and decided to remake the original Dead Space “Lullaby” trailer using the 2023 game.
Whether or not the idea to use the nursery rhyme in the Dead Space trailer came from when it was used in the teaser for Alien Resurrection doesn’t really matter much, as the song juxtaposing the carnage aboard the Ishimura is still chillingly replicated here in the 2023 version of “Lullaby”. That, and the use of the alternate darker lyrics is perfect. So perfect in fact that Arkane used the same idea with the song “Drunken Sailor” for the first Dishonored game.
And it’s still funny how the contrast in tone between peaceful music and chaotic visuals always works to disturb viewers.

Well, you can’t say that you didn’t see this coming. After Motive Studio mused the idea of doing more with Dead Space, it would appear that publisher EA is taking a step towards doing just that.
Gloomwood developer Dillon Rogers posted yesterday on Twitter a survey from EA that asked fans point blank how interested they would be in regards to the developer proceeding with not only a remake of Dead Space 2 done in a similar style to Motive Studio’s remake of the original game, but also its sequel in Dead Space 3.
Electronic Arts has yet to comment on what their plans are for the series, despite the success and acclaim of the remake. On top of that, it’s not clear that if EA does proceed to remake both games, will Motive Studio will be involved in either project. Furthermore, if fans are hungry for more Dead Space,...
