I had to view this film for a class that I am taking, Film and the Holocaust, and had the honor of hearing Mr. Verhoeven talk about a different film, but also mentioning Nasty Girl. This film amazed me. His use of documentary style cinematography gave validity to a fictional story. Also, the use of rear screen projection as backgrounds, looking much like scrims in a theater, showed the fact that many of the characters were Acting their part, not behaving as they would normally. The film is amuck with symbolism and varying view points. It is a great film for any aspiring filmmakers to study, or critics to analyze.
